I had a friend that had one. It was a hill climb monster. He was one of those guys that could make anything fast wether it was a xr100 or cr500. Wish he was still with us . God called him home back years ago.
@Carl Rheinhardt My IT brochure was worn tattered pages worse than the JC Penney catalog bra section . Lol my cousin had the 175 and let me run it when we were on a break harvesting corn in November. I had to give it back when I couldn’t feel my hands from being on literal brink of frostbite without gloves..... just like it was yesterday I can still smell that two stroke in my mind . My very first bike was a 1979 IT175, remember taking a trip to the Grand Canyon in 1987, there was a newer IT parked at the hotel, I drooled over that thing.
I'm 25. Never got to expirience the heyday of motox. Even I wig out and go running to papa when I see one of these beauties for sale hoping he'll approve of me bringing another bike home haha. Have 2 cm400 frames 3 engines, a stolen magna(stolen from friends grandpa but recovered, never received a new title so legally can't reggo) Yamaha xs1100 and a ton of old dirt bikes and frames from my race bikes as a kid.
A piece of art... stunning! I remember reading about this bike back in 82 in my new dirt bike magazine, just dreaming about that bike. In 82 I was sixteen years old.
@@johnhansen7499 yep. Me to. We would sneak out of school and ride the push bikes to the Yamaha deale, in Wangaratta Au. . We would look and touch the seat, not even thinking about girls.
So cool ! I had the it 175 and it was a great bike. 2 stroke 6 speed , wish they still made them. Dad and me put a piston and rings in it in the garage. Cheap and fast
Dad. Zero mechanical expirience. Me at 9 years old. Done a few oil changes and handed neighbor tools. Also me at 9. Builds a monster customized "88cc" big bore out of a 124 xr100 kit and a xr50 88 kit. Ran for 3 years and was scary fast with the 4th gear mod. Took it to Honda for a checkup when I was 12 and couldn't find the rattle. Got it back and it broke after 2 laps.
What a great looking IT-465 , my dad one & I had the IT-175. Then I got a Honda thumper ( 4 stroke) XR-200R , I loved the XR-200R , drop down a gear & slide back a little on seat & chug through the tite rough stuff . Unlike like a 2 stroke had to keep it on the pipe.

This bike is an absolute beast of a bike, I was lucky enough to have owned an IT 250 and 465. It always struck me that both bikes would always start after the first kick, every time. Thanks for sharing, brought some good memories back. Cheers!
I remember when these bikes were unleashed on the public here in Australia and it took huge plums to ride one in the bush as they’re an absolute weapon!!! Not many people could handle it and most of them ended up trashed, and so did the bikes!!! I love it thanks mate 😁👌🏻

I had an IT 250 about the same age. What a great bike. The main reason I traded it out was marriage (so don't get married) and the drum brakes. Having a disk brake, at least on the front, makes such a difference. Also reverse shocks make a difference. But for the era, this was a great bike. Not as much power as say a YZ, but enough and the power band was wider. Of course the IT was air cooled as well, but at the time it was a great reliable bike. Yes i had one 1982 had the it 175 first then got 465 few years later . same blue man one best dirt bike ive owned gotta respect the power .i still got the tools from it 465 n pouch
Had one as a daily ride in the late 80s in the the UK when I was 19 ;) Insane torque monster trench digging mono beast….. Kaplan taking it a tad easy …..;)
I have the honour of owning one of these big bangers and I can say they're well made, simple and plenty of low down torque when needed but the power to weight is thoroughly auxilarating. Japan's engineering surpassed it's competition but still flaws like the plastics too thin and without thermal protection, headlight at night(6volt), the sidestand was too thin at the mounts, circumference of the combustion chamber clearance in the head caused "pinging"and the exhaust could of had a way better expansion chamber to bring the power up and more clearances, but all in all definitely highly competitive. Looks great both of them.
I had this exact J model bike bought it new from the dealer back then..Powerful and potent I found it top heavy with questionable handling and brakes when raced or ridden hard..My next bike the 1983 IT250K was so much better with monocross suspension even if it wasn't as powerful.
I had a friend that had one. It was a hill climb monster. He was one of those guys that could make anything fast wether it was a xr100 or cr500. Wish he was still with us . God called him home back years ago.

These 40-year old scoots would be competitive with any modern enduro 4-stroke.
I love it! These were the bikes I grew up with. Love the revolver too!
OMG! I just bought my own IT465 that was stolen 15 years ago back. I used to drive it when I was 18 years. Now I got it back 🙂
I just need a side stand... where can I get it? 🙂

Man those 465,s are IT 👍
Braaaaaap ting ting ting
I'm so happy right now.
VERY NICE model in immaculate condition!
That certainly sounds perfect. You’ve done it again Ken The Yamaha IT s are really good looking bike
