Why Lotor was a GREAT Character

We know that fandom culture can be bad sometimes. But what about the worst of times? Voltron: Legendary Defenders was one of Netflix's greatest animated series, until it wasn't. And the reason it went downhill so fast isn't a mystery. And for once, we can't pin the blame on the studio execs or the writers.

Very much a Lotor fan from the old days. Thought his end was so bad on first watch, but in retrospective, he ends up like his father despite his hatred for both parents.

THIS. Personally I really liked his character on first viewing like quite literally right away. He was such a great character but narrative just said; Naaaah. Nevermind that he's been abused his whole life, been super important to the plot, had a very well implemented relationship with Allura (was relevant to both of their arcs) and literally the rest of the essay I could write, they made him evil and ruined his entire redemption arc + offended abuse victims + fucked up Allura's arc (resulting in the message from it being something like 'yeah if you think every X group is X bad thing, you're probably right and you shouldn't trust them' also the fact hes coded as biracial makes this even worse) + opened the door to allurance which angered tons of fans anyway
On top of that let's just say that the moment he gets # exposed by Romelle and all that crap is the moment everything just goes downhill for the show like it's kind of insane

I hated what they did with Lotor. It gives off such a horrible message that abused children are irredeemable like their parents and they deserve the worst fate imaginable. The more I think about it, the angrier I get

Afyer looking into his character I realised that they wanted to do something tragic ish with him -- That he tried to escape the cycle of abuse but instead perpetuated it, or something (Implied). But it just wasn't it, this was PG7 show, there were kids watching it, and how are they supposed to get that? All I'd be getting is that victims of abuse are irredeemable💀 Plus, why would you write this sympathetic villain, build him up to prove he was actually much different than Zarkon, and season 6 hits and we don't even end up with the character we started with but in season 1 with Zarkon again.

This beef cake space daddy wanted a family with Allura: a family that he could nurture and be good to: I know for a Fact; this man would adore the children. And Allura would be equal to Lotor in their parental vision of raising them.

Lotor became my favorite character. Lotor and Allura were such an amazing couple 💖💘💜then the show ruined everything...
The show ended on such a high note with season 5, but then season 6 was the start of the dumpster fire that just got worse with each season...how far Netflix's Voltron fell...

Lotor was good in this version of Voltron, I’ll give them that.
(Also I agree with negative here, IN MY OPINION (having watched the episodes of the original Voltron that are on TH-cam) I don’t like the Allura x Lotor ship as it gets weird IF you think about the past it’s totally fine if you like the ship, I couldn’t care less)

And sire better than allura lance, whom i saw always asspace sokkaand space alien katara, and i dont like it as not good friends.
