Seriously, this channel contributes so much to making gw2 enjoyable :) Especially in times where people get so used to their daily-node-grinding-routine, people tend to forget about the importance of lore & mysteries, and it keeps me constantly hyped about the the game :D tyvm for this, keep it going!
So much of this video has been so relevant to the last 4 years of GW2 lore - LWS2 (the crash at Dry Top, the hunt for the Master of Peace, and chasing the egg), HoT (the continued chase of the egg and getting it safely to Tarir, where we meet the Exalted, who were also familiar with Glint), LWS3 (the hatching and training of Aurene, PoF (where we find out that the baby dragon we saved from the Destroyers was quite possibly Vlast, who ends up saving our lives, finding out that the reason why the Exalted were familiar with Glint was because they raised Vlast not too far from where Glint lived, and saving Aurene's life from Balthazar), and LWS4 (where Aurene has become adolescent due to absorbed magic, and not only have we become Aurene's champion, but it's become a symbiotic relationship). When you created this video, I doubt you realized just how central it would become for years worth of play.
Time travel forward. I’m watching these mystery lore videos in 2020. I’m fairly new to the game and have been soaking up all the lore from your videos. I would love to see a video made now that addresses all the questions you put forth in these mystery videos and see if any of them have been answered. I love the story of Glint.
I love how much effort you put into these videos and how they mostly make a lot of sense. I say 'mostly' because you tend to go much deeper into the story than necessary. Example: Primordas has no interest whatsoever in Glint's baby. Somewhere in the lore (GW2) it is stated that the elder dragons have no moral, no goal and no care for the world. That is why they just consume magic, even ultimately leading to their own demise. They are beings of pure destruction, nothing else. They also operate on their own. Minions of different dragons all fight each other mindlessly. The destroyers just attacked the baby (+dwarves) because they do, not because Primordus wants anything.
I've been rewatching your original Season 1 coverage ahead of the upcoming re-release, and stumbled upon this video. It's so cool to look back at this now after End of Dragons.
Apparently the various Living Stories have their own separate lore, BUT there are many subtle things that connect them one another. And possibly next week, at the Queen's Speech, we may get a more clear understanding of the whole plot about Consortium, Molten Alliance, Sky Pirates, Zephyrites and Scarlet.
About Glint, her lair was on ALL the grains of sand of the crystal desert, not just one. From the official wiki: "However it [her lair] was actually hidden by powerful illusions, dispelled when people realize where the lair truly was - on all of the grains of sand, not one." Just a small thing, but thought I'd point it out :)
I can listen to you for hours talking about GW2. You have such an entertaining voice and you're always talking about interesting things throughout these videos, its awesome!
I've always adored your GW content WP, and I hope you can get back into it with all this. I'd love to see you continue the LP, and I' love to see more content on the lore. Watched every episode from all your GW1 let's plays, and want to see it carry to GW2 for sure.
Woodenpotatoes, every gw2 mystery you unfold for me is yet another reason to keep me playing. I didn't get a chance to play gw1, however, I'm extremely interested in the lore surrounding the Guild Wars universe. With that being said, keep up the fantastic work and thanks for creating such an amazing series.
I never played the first GW so a lot of this stuff is over my head while playing, Yet i'm very interested in knowing these things. I appreciate how clear and concise you are during these videos as it makes it simple even for a layman player like me to understand. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for these videos. I sometimes have trouble understanding the lore when I just read a block of text on the wiki, but you explain everything so clearly and it makes so much more sense!
You have slowly turned me into a lore junkie with this series and I am not enthralled by where the living story is going! Thank u wooden potatoes! Can't wait for more!!!
So I'm a new sub and I'm binge watching your mystery videos, and I think this is one of my favorites because this issue has actually come into the light because of the end of season two :D I love your videos, and I enjoy how you focus a lot on lore from GW1 - I've seen a lot of gamers who either no nothing of the lore or only care about current lore :P
Took the words right out of my mouth, excitement for the story died on my end, but hearing the little tidbits about the Bazaar got me excited, I didn't know/realise it was this in-depth, but even little bits of dialogue was enough for me to say 'OK, they do care'
You're GW Mysteries series is one of my favorite that you do. Mainly because it keeps GW2 interesting for me because I cant pick up on all the little clues that the devs place. Without all these clues the GW story that most people see is very mundane and boring. So I thank you for your work. I cant wait for when they finally open that gate near ebonhawk.
Ok, here comes a contradiction - 250 years have passed since the events in GW1: EotN, which means the baby dragons is by far not a baby any more. Soo, it wouldn't really need protecting at this point, as it will be powerful enough to take care of itself. Which means that there are more unhatched eggs, which the Zephyrites are guarding and therefore being named Heritage Protectors. Also, wild, but what if Glint could transfer her soul into one of the eggs and continue living in a new form?
I was just reading about Glint in the book 'Edge of Destiny', it's really cool to see she hasn't been forgotten and is still getting mentioned in game. :D
I kinda got the impression that the jungle dragon was supposed to be next (from the interview where they confirmed the existence of a jungle dragon) and that if they ever dealt with glints offspring it would mean going after kralkatorrik. Great vid, had not made the connections myself in game but had sort of been hearing a buzz about glint on forums but I find your vids much better for dragging all the evidence into the light and making possible connections
Actually it's a tricky subject because all the Gw1 lore described it as a single grain of sand, then edge of destiny came and messed stuff up. Usually I believe the more recent lore, but it's a time where I feel like Anet just messed up.
I wanted to add that at the same time as they released the Bazaar of the four Winds, they also released two new Explorator achievements. Both take place in the Fields of Ruin. One of the achievements points very cleary to the Ebon Vanguard discovering the Crystal Desert. Again, the Crystal Desert. And many suspect that the PvP map Skyhammer is located in the Crystal Desert, too. I think (and hope), we will see more of the Crystal Desert very soon.
Thanks for the video, it was very interesting as always! ^_^ I'm beginning to feel so hyped for the future of the LS right now. Glint back in the story, good lore on the official website, no smashing pinatas or bashing signs, beautiful flying cities... It's lovely! I hated the living story just a few days ago, but the whole Zephyr story is a HUGE stepup from the uninteresting Ellen Kiel one. Let's hope they don't leave this story behind in the next chapter!
the next part of the LS is supposed to be an election between Evon and Kiel so i dont know what they are doing with all this stuff with the zephyrites but i did a bunch of research in the city part of the new zone and found 3 characters that stood out and seemed like they were selling some sort of dark magic whether it be themselves (necromatic mercenaries) or what but i feel like ANet is giving us 3 different stories right now. keep up the amazing vids WP love it!
The election story - Cutthroat Politics, has a TON of lore behind it and it is a vital part to the development of the current storyline that is introduced with the Living Story. There are speculations that it is deeply connected with very important events, such as the major explosion at the Theumanova Reactor in Metrica Province and much more. So yeah, although baby dragon would be cool, the story in the updates is very strong, especially in the last month and a half.
I think the GW2 lore follows on to point out that the legend of Glint's lair being in a grain of sand was there originally, but it was later found to be as I described above. I can't access the wiki atm, since I'm at work heh, but I think it does include both parts of the lore. IMO I preferred the "single grain of sand" though. Seemed far more...mystical? fantastical? Great video by the way, it's heartening to see living story arcs linking into the "bigger picture".
In reference to Lonecatamount's post the dragon Shiny is a Saltspray just like Kunnavang. So there could be a possibility that the Zephs, or really Glint before her passing, could have been banding together friendly dragons that see the worth of man and wish to help. We only directly know Kuunie was trapped under Unwaking Waters, she could have scores of eggs also. Which could be where Goren got his. I doubt the Zephs would give him an egg, but maybe Kuunie "asked" him to hid the egg for her.
Recently i was completing all of the jumping puzzles and when I was doing one called "Chaos crystal cave" or something like that, there was an asura (inquest), and he told me that crystals from this cave was used when the Thaumanova reactor was built. And a few days later a new info about future updates came out and if you vote for Ellen Kiel she is going to: "support important Fractals of the Mists research into the Thaumanova Reactor explosion by the end of the year."
"I asked Glint for a merciful end" "we took him in, he was one of us", sentences uttered in a tent in prospect valley. Has to do with the crash of their ship. Maybe Glint's baby actually is the cause? If the baby is a "he", then they might be talking about some sort of betrayal from the dragon. Also mentions of "the master", maybe Kralkatorik have taken control of Glint's baby? Have no idea where the story is at, but just thought I would add that.
"we took him in" was about Aerin, a Sylvari corrupted by Mordremoth, he's the one who blew up the ships. Gleam, Glints other possible bubba was friendly to humans, and the Egg is just an egg.
WP, something to think about. I think Anet till this point, was just trying to finish the game itself, we all know that there were stuff missing on launch, now we have a more solid WvW, they are making a PvP competition, we have a few mini-games, achievement rewards, more balance, FotM, they announced they have put together a stronger team to make living story content, the list goes on. Now, with all that done, I think they are ready to begin the "GW2 story", I'm excited for it.
They should definitely take a long hard look at what they are doing with the temporary stuff. An example would be to use their whole Fractals/Mists idea to put in different kinds of stuff, because it allows them to be everywhere. They could use this for viewing of the previous living stories or something.
Thanks to you, I've become a hot mess of a lore junkie and I want to play the game more and more. So help me God if these theories and stories don't go anywhere, I'm jump off a cliff and cursing Anet on the way down.
Watching this footage of Guild Wars makes me want to play that game again. Oh my god I love the hell out of that game. There is definitely an awesomeness to Guild Wars that GW2 lacks. If it weren't for WvWvW mode, I would rarely even play GW2.
I hope you're correct about this being a glimmer of light and we will get to meet Glint's offspring, and from there it will ramp up to the appearance of Kralkatorrik. I suspect he would be annoyed that one of Glints descendants managed to survive. Then Zojjja will get a chance to avenge the death of Snaff, and Logan will get the chance to correct his mistake that lead to Snaff's death. That would be a solid story arc to play, no more fixing roadsigns or picking up kites around the countryside.
Wp I don't know if anyone else commented on this but, In GW 1 there is mention of another baby dragon. In the Nightfall story line the hero Goren has an egg that players end up taking to the Hidden City of Ahdashim ,at the end if this quest it hatches a baby dragon, a very "Glintish" looking one at that. So perhaps there is another possible link with the Zephs. They do appear to be wide ranging traders.
I picked up on that too, but figured that Glint had changed her lair up a bit (including access to it) in light of the rise of the elder dragons. But that was probably me just making up something to make it work
Seems the next chapter of the living story is actually about choosing who will be in the council in LA. There's a hint on the main GW2 site, where you can see E. Kiel and that Charr from the Black Lion, having some kind of campaign. Soo, well, we might see more of the Zephyrites and Glint story or ANet will bring it later on. Who knows.
It's nice seeing you excited about the story again. :D And thanks for the video, it'll come in handy with a tour of the Bazaar I'm running over at Ring of Fire on Sunday. ^-^d
I just remembered that we data mined a small dragon model right before the dragon bash festival, we never found it in game. The data mined dragon also looks like glints baby o.o
Just theorizing here, might be interesting if Scarlet is a follower/minion of Primordius. Scarlet being the one Mai Trin is following. Scarlet would be using the Aetherblades to get at glint's offspring, which would be consistent with his previous inclinations. Could be Scarlet was behind frost and flame with the azurite as well. Although Scarlet could just be Inquest.
My point is that Thaumanova Reactor has something to do with crystals from Kralkatorik and after I watched your video it really sounds as that the next living story/update is going to head towards the crystal desert.
This video might be the one that brings me back to GW2 after the break I have taken from it. If it is true that they are going to reveal a lot more in connection with Glint, I am really going to come back :)
Also, to you WP: I was kinda smiling when you were talking about hearing the teacher talk about the dragons and stuff and not really thinking about it. It was ironic in the fact that you have kinda given up hope on having some nice lore in the game to the point where you started to fail to see that they began presenting it! :P If anyone should have noticed it the first time it should have been you!
As I understood it, the Zypherites didn't just find a piece of Glint. They relocated her corpse somewhere else both to safeguard it from other parties and to honor her. There is a LOT of interesting things going on with this update; I recall hearing a group of Zephyrites talking about crystal growers and seeding the clouds soon. Are they planning to make it rain quartz or something?
I am SO going to replay the prophecies story during my summer holidays! I was too much in a hurry to understand everything ( besides from skipping all the cutscenes ). I hope I'll find someone to help me with the hard mode so I can at least earn some more points for my Hall of Monuments & GW2 ♥ Can't wait for the short story video. ^___^
Maybe just like light refracts through a prism (crystal) her lair refracts from one grain of sand to all grains of sand in the desert. Making "her" grain of sand appear as all grains of sand, engorging the illusion. Just like the beam of light only hits one crystal but reaches out to everything around it... One can only see the light beaming out of the crystal when they realize they don't have to look for the one crystal, but for whatever the light falls on which is everything.
You forgot to mention that the sky pirates have an interest in the Zephyrites. Completing the gathering event in the Labyrinthian Cliffs leads to an attack by aetherized pirates, as you show in the video. Now if you remember, the sky pirates are an alliance between the inquest and pirates, and it seems with dragon bash that we have thwarted their plans. But we find them attacking the Zephyrites. No doubt the inquest know something, or want to know something about the origin of their power. ;)
Very interesting theory. I do hope anet plays this out and revisits some loose ends from gw1. They have been, in my opinion, to obsessed with writing a completely new narrative instead of carrying the existing one forward. The lore must be preserved, and it won't be unless the players remind them that they think it is important.
When I talked about Primordus, I meant the Dragon Underneath what is now the Meguuma Wastes (What was the Meguuma Jungle) not the "Jungle Dragon" Or Forest Dragon.
Right now I am questioning myself: Why am (was) I missing so much story in Gw1 und Gw2... I dont even remember the prophecies anymore... But great job WP. great job...
I think the humans that attacked her that was mentioned in edge of destiny were the humans we played as in guild wars1 but not for the egg reason. I think we went back to her after possibly finding out her origin, and almost killed her before she proved that she turned good
Wooden, each time i watch these video's im so sad that i never got to finish all parts of the gw1 story and explore so much of the amazing lore. Would you know things that i could use to get up to date with everything ? I've watch loads of your video's but i feel i havent seen anything yet. Is there a place to find people who still replay parts of the gw1 campaign or a list of all the the gw1 and gw2 books ? Love everything you are doing so keep up the absolutely amazing work!
i saw these bas-reliefs and other markings as merely a type of cuneiform depicting Egyptian and or Arabic-like symbols dealing with life and death. And; of course, ritual magic. But the more examples of the architecture i studied further inland i went the stronger and brighter i noticed the luminescence to become. And then it finally dawned on me what i was looking upon. Wireless, transistor-like computer circuitry! Whole skyscrapers and cathedrals and other builds had had super-science
I guess it's the same as with movies: Why are they even interesting? Why do people watch them? Why do people like them? GW has an amazing world, and having experienced everything makes all the new content Anet makes way more exciting. Also, the world of GW is just amazing in general. I have no doubt that most people would like to live in that world.
"The forgotten learned how to cure RAGON corruption" - Who are these Ragon and where can I find them!... Nah I kid, typos be typos ^.^ Loving the vids, cant wait to learn more
So I was doing mini dungeons with a friend and we were doing the magellans memento one and the grawl tribe guarding the place was called the dragon tribe. You talked about grawl a while ago but I was wondering if you've seen these guys and what your thoughts are on them?
Great summary! I have a question: What thread do you speak of? I discussed a bit on guru and read on the official forums but didn't notice a thread/post like you mentioned. I also really really hope that they will expand on the aspects and origin of dragons and their magic instead of letting the pirates attack the sanctum as some expect. I love this old lore, it's soo compelling. I'm also relieved that the aspects turn out to fit into the lore rather than just being used es "cool" names.
Though the next living story is about a somewhat stupid vote, this still might work out. As someone mentioned Ellen got an airship from the pirates and the zephyrites who have landed are connected to glint what if Ellen wins the vote and somewhat leads LA and zephyrites to fight a elder dragon in an airship battle? Maybe Ellen is becoming a main character for the plot since she has been in many of the living story
So is the Harry Potter lore, The Lord of the Rings Lore and almost every TV show, movie and book you've ever read or seen and felt passionate about. Video games are just as much a valid medium for story telling as any other.
It's fascinating to look back on this after PoF. It makes me wish even more that we had gotten to see more of Vlast.
Seriously, this channel contributes so much to making gw2 enjoyable :)
Especially in times where people get so used to their daily-node-grinding-routine, people tend to forget about the importance of lore & mysteries, and it keeps me constantly hyped about the the game :D tyvm for this, keep it going!

They are so awesome and interesting, please do more if anymore lore comes up during the living story

You bring so much excitement and life to the game. Thank you!
Thanks for explaining the story behind it, your channel makes the story and the game so much more exhiting and intressting. You're the best :D
About Glint, her lair was on ALL the grains of sand of the crystal desert, not just one. From the official wiki: "However it [her lair] was actually hidden by powerful illusions, dispelled when people realize where the lair truly was - on all of the grains of sand, not one." I'm new to guild wars lore, and I must say I'm quite impressed. Thanks for making these videos and spoonfeeding me these awesome stories! :)
flameseeker prophecies is the name of the legendary sheild in the second game, i love these little Easter eggs here and there

Lore :') A good story always makes everything better, I love Tyria .-. Keep making these :3
I get to 23:35 and just start audibly gasping and yelling at my sister, who also plays GW2. Hearty applause to both you WP, and ANet for this update.

They could use this for viewing of the previous living stories or something.
Love. Thiese. Mysteries! You are awesome! This is making me more existed about the game! Thank you so much! :)
Thanks to you, I've become a hot mess of a lore junkie and I want to play the game more and more. So help me God if these theories and stories don't go anywhere, I'm jump off a cliff and cursing Anet on the way down.
I have made small tweaks to it but mostly yes!
Ah yes! I remember that questline! There are many saltsprays about, in theory.
Watching this footage of Guild Wars makes me want to play that game again. Oh my god I love the hell out of that game. There is definitely an awesomeness to Guild Wars that GW2 lacks. If it weren't for WvWvW mode, I would rarely even play GW2.
I'm excited that Anet is introducing some lore consistent stuff with living story. I hope we get a story line or something.
But that was probably me just making up something to make it work
I was really hoping you make a video on this. Thx man
Seems the next chapter of the living story is actually about choosing who will be in the council in LA. There's a hint on the main GW2 site, where you can see E. Kiel and that Charr from the Black Lion, having some kind of campaign. Soo, well, we might see more of the Zephyrites and Glint story or ANet will bring it later on. Who knows.
THIS INSTNATLY MADE THE GAME A LOT MORE INTERESTING
THANKS!
I think im gonna read all the books bout GW, these aspects of the lore are captivating.
It's nice seeing you excited about the story again. :D
And thanks for the video, it'll come in handy with a tour of the Bazaar I'm running over at Ring of Fire on Sunday. ^-^d
I just remembered that we data mined a small dragon model right before the dragon bash festival, we never found it in game. The data mined dragon also looks like glints baby o.o
Agreed. Love the videos. But the latest (Asura and this one) Aren't on your playlist! Took some effort to find them!
Meh, I mentioned the other crystals I think people get the picture.
My point is that Thaumanova Reactor has something to do with crystals from Kralkatorik and after I watched your video it really sounds as that the next living story/update is going to head towards the crystal desert.
This got me back into gw2, I was feeling like the living story was awful but so far I'm really impressed with this.
I really hope they ARE going where this looks like it might be going. There is so much they haven't even tapped into yet!
Cloth of the Brotherhood never made sense to me until you explained it.
I hope I'll find someone to help me with the hard mode so I can at least earn some more points for my Hall of Monuments & GW2 ♥
Can't wait for the short story video.
No doubt the inquest know something, or want to know something about the origin of their power. ;)
I am so excited about the game now. WP, you are amazing.
In Gw1 or 2? In 2 it's the asuran cultural tier 3 stuff, I think.
The labyrinthine cliffs are also quite close to the desert... possibly a hint at where they're moving...?
Good point, I just hope Anet will work on all this to bring out something awesome. :)
I think we went back to her after possibly finding out her origin, and almost killed her before she proved that she turned good
I'm excited about this stuff, hopefully Anet follows up on it and doesn't just ditch it to use it later.
There are now three books released and there is a ton of lore in the GW and GW2 wikis.
I really wish the story and background lore in GW2 was half as interesting as it was in the first game. Hopefully this is a sign of things improving.
love the mysteries vids looking for wood to the next and i think the sky pirate have more to do with this than we now.
This is my favorite series
So is the Harry Potter lore, The Lord of the Rings Lore and almost every TV show, movie and book you've ever read or seen and felt passionate about. Video games are just as much a valid medium for story telling as any other.
