    My father in law wears an older version of this and, every time I see it, I’m well and truly put in my place

    I love the entire Chronomat line, it's just so unapologetically bold and also uniquely Breitling.

      Have one and it is my part time weekend watch. For me it is for people who are bored of all the main stream ideals. This and that Rolex is the most important (i also have a few Rolex). Just when you like watches. Want something different, still kinda classic, but not to much out there… not for every day. For for those when you are bored of people telling you what to think. Especially if those are people who just recently got into watches and seem to recite main stream Options of watch ranking without any ideas for themselves..

    Breitling has a rich Aviation Heritage. Everyone knows and recognizes a Rolex, for me, when my passengers are deplanning and one holds up his Breitling, having noticing mine and says "Nice watch", that's what owning a Breitling is about. The folks that recognize a Breitling are those that appreciate what it represents and it's like meeting a person from the small town you grew up in while touring the Alps. Chances are the fellow Breitling owner has something to do with or is a huge Aviation fan. When I was in my teens and a private pilot, I wanted a Breitling because of it's Aviation Heritage. So 45 years later and several Breitlings, I still admire the association with Aviation that Breitling has.

      Having a watch that aligns itself with Aviation is all the watches you'd need. We live in the 3 dimensional space.

    As a Chronomat 44 GMT owner (late model, with the wings logo), I appreciate how much of Breitling’s design language consistently goes into one of its flagship models.

    This is well-executed maximalism.
    Yeah, it's got subdials, and golden pushers, and "riders" on the bezel, and a bracelet made of tiny bullets and there are some golden rings on it. But it's ok, cause each part builds on the previous ones. It's pretty refreshing in the modern era of minimalism, if you ask me. Like an ancient building with lots of ornamentation. No wonder it's popular in italy.
    Also, I've got the old two-tone b13050 version too with an extremely sunbirst grey dial and it's the only watch that ever actually got me a compliment from a woman.

    I love all the renditions of the Chronomat and have owned most of them. I’m also a diver and have dove with tons of chronographs as a fun backup to my computer. I can tell you that I’ve never had a single problem. In fact all the omega 300m series chronographs as well as the Planet Ocean chronographs CAN be operated and their full depth of 300m and 600m respectively. Since most people don’t go beyond 40m I think they are just fine to dive with. There are plebty of other brands that have the same capability. So whomever told you chrono’s are not water resistant is not well educated in modern watch tech.

    Have the copper dial in steel. It is truly fantastic. The bracelet is supple and conforms to your wrist. FYI, Kendall Roy wore this in rose gold with Breitling rubber rouleaux style band in the first episode of Succession.

  • @thetimist
    @thetimist ปีที่แล้ว +10

    A lot of history behind the Chronomat name - like everything, it’s not for everyone, but I do love some of the other steel/colored dial variants. Also, if you wear one of these on each wrist, does that count as working out? 🤔

    Haha I can understand why you find that this watch has too much going on! I bought the green dial version in January (but with the rubber strap) and it's my can't stop wearing it. It's indeed kind of a statement piece, but the rubber strap makes it a lot more balance in terms of visuals, IMHO.

    I had a Ball Hydrocarbon Trieste diver’s chronograph that was not only water resistant, but the pushers could be operated down to 600M! Sadly, I was never able. To dive with it. Diving is now in my past. I sure wish I had been able to take that Ball to Grand Cayman. Our first dive every morning was 120 feet. It would have been cool starting the chronograph at tat depth, just to prove I could! That Breitling is definitely a chunk, but the capabilities make it worth it’s weight.

    I know what you mean about the gold thing. I have always detested gold on any watch, and then suddenly I owned a Black Bay Chronograph S&G. I still hate gold on watches, but that Tudor ticks a box I didn't even know I had. The Chronomat is definitely giving some serious resurrection vibes.

    I think Breitling makes some really cool watches. However, I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to pay for one at MSRP. I, personally, find most current models to be $1-2K over what I value them at (in a subjective sense).

    Good overview. There are reasons someone wears a watch like this. I own this watch in stainless green face rubber strap (not much of a gold watch type guy too flashy). At 6'4" 240 large wrists this watch fits well.. Short of the fact it is deep at 44 it isn't all that big. I wear IWC watches at 46.5 so this is considered small in my world. The other thing as a older person my eyesight is not what it was. This watch like all larger examples if properly colored are easier for me to read without reading glasses. The ego thing is way down the totem pole insofar as what someone else thinks in my world. Regardless, it is a great looking watch people notice and recognize as an attractive well designed functional art piece.

    A chronograph with a dive watch timing bezel is a great idea, that's why I've grown to really appreciate diver chronographs. You have both a stopwatch and a countdown timer in the same watch, also the water resistance of a diver chronograph give you the roughness to actually use stopwatch for outdoors and sports
