Dude, enough torture remove the fan shroud! Ok, finally. When working on an Astro just remove the air filter and fan shroud.

      100. What I want to know though is the technique for getting the thing back in especially the top one or the bottom one one of themis always way more of a pain in the ass than the other

take the fan off too. then its easy to get the bottom half of the shroud out too. gives you tons of room to work and only takes a few minutes with the right tools (that you can rent from the parts stores)@@metal422life

Wonderful video! I truly appreciate you taking the time to make it. I’m about to start the same exact job myself on a 2000 Safari, and with your help, this will go a breeze :) thank you 🙏 I’m excited to get started ✨

Thanks! I know the video is pretty rough but when filming alone it’s hard! Just look out for that bolt on the back of the pump itself and I had a struggle getting the cooler line in under the radiator! I probably should have removed other parts to get better access. And you’ll need to borrow the pulley puller somewhere. Good luck!
I read your message and told my wife that this is the reason I go to the trouble to make the videos! Thanks again! Please check out my 100+ diy videos!

@@bobsbarnworkshop thank you! Your video made my week :) I’m planning to order parts for my Safari to rehabilitate the power steering system. I want to replace all the major pressure hoses like you did. Are these below the only three high pressure hoses that I would need?
Power Steering Pressure Hose - Pump To Hydroboost
Power Steering Pressure Hose - Gear to Hydroboost
Power Steering Return Line Hose Assembly - From Gear
      Thanks in advance! 🙏 Jack

@@jackszumski7118 I believe that’s correct. I suggest you get a better pump than I did, I used a rebuilt one from Cardone and it whines...

@@bobsbarnworkshop Hi, wanted to check, how were you able to remove and replace the cooler line? I removed the fan shroud (upper and lower) and I was able to unclip the cooler line from the supports but there is so little room to slide the cooler line off the last support that holds it up? Is there a trick or method to replacing the cooler line? It’s seems I may need to take of the front bumper.

@@jackszumski7118 I just man handled it in, I had to bend it a little... I should have figured a better way but I just did what I did... my bumper is pretty much rusted away so I didn’t want to get it off and be stuck with nothing to put back on!

4 like the past year my pump has been making noise periodically. But one day I didn't have power steering fluid didn't have any money and the thing was screaming at me so I ended up dumping some motor oil in it. So for over a year now I've been dumping various fluids into it, most likely if it's a fluid that goes in a vehicle I have put it into the power steering fluid pump I have even put bar and chain oil into the pump. I also think the bar and chain oil is what might have killed it. And now my power steering don't work. over a year of me giving it hell and it finally said I can't do anymore. So what sucks is, not only does the power steering not work, now the brakes don't really work. cuz they're like interconnected. So now I'm just looking at how to rip it all out of there and put all new stuff in. Like I have been putting off for over a year. So I will watch this video probably about six times over the course of About a Week before I buy the stuff and then I'll watch it about three or four times the day that I acquire the parts and finally install it . The power steering does kick on periodically from time to time randomly now that I think about it I'm probably going to spray some of the anti-seize stuff from Walmart in it. And maybe smack it once with a hammer that should do it I'll probably get it going again and I can put it off for another couple of months

I've had 2 astro vans both changed the fuel injection and distributor , door handles break, water pumps go out and door handles break . The astro van is a bitch to work on for sure🤔

Did you see my 3 part series removing the intake manifold and replacing the fuel injection spider? That was a ball of fun!!! She runs like new now however!

Right, what the hell is up with these handles. All mine are broken except the rear hatch and the driver's side. Actually, the driver and passengers are both broken but still connected and hanging on by a thread.

Getting ready to replace my second door handle on 2002 Safari, also have had to crawl in the back of van and unlock/re-attach lock lever by taking back trim off.

And the door handles are the hardest part of the entire thing no. Unless you want to cheat and just make a hole near the latch then it makes you want to rage quit especially if you don't have magnets and you only have a small wrench . I'm almost bought a whole new door just because it was pissing me off so much

Ugh, I seem to be the only one who got a power steering pump that didn't have the bolts on the back. I did all this work and power steering fluid keeps leaking out of the bolt holes. They don't even go to anything on my van. My pump bolts on all in the front not the back. and why in the world would bolt holes enter into the pump reservoir to fluid anyway. that's stupid. I managed to find some bolts to put in there online. Now I'm just praying I don't have to remove the pump again just to get to it.
