    This Video Helped Me Get My 1999 Astro Van Blower Motor Working In All The Speeds again. I Had To Cut Those $ Tabs Off Too Thanks For Posting This Video It Helped Me. I Went To That Happy Valley Chick-Fil-A Grand Opening And Camped Out For Free Food For A Year Many Years Ago

    I know this is an older video. But just wanted to say thanks! When I went to purchase a new resister for my 1998 Astro. And tried to install the replacement. I ended up taking it back. After discovering that all the replacements were of the same nature. I didn't know what I was going to do. Even O.E.M. resisters were the new design. Watching your video was priceless. I went back and repurchased the part. Did the revisions you described. And Viola! It went in perfectly. Great video!!

    Thanks. Great video. This part and the vacuum lines go out on all these vehicles. There’s a fuse under the driver dash and fuse under the hood in the relay box, or two if you have rear heat. Of note: the high setting contacts and the contacts for the big orange power wire often need scraped and coated in dielectric grease. And lemme say this: the low medium settings will still work even if the fuse in the relay box has blown. Like everything in these vans it’s patient job. Thanks

    i just did the same repair on a 2001 astro. i got the resistor at a local u pull for 3 bucks. thank god i cut the harness/connector from the donar van. not only was my resistor fried but my harness/connector high side was melted as well. after replacing the resistor and splicing,soldering,and shrink wrapping the new plug my air was back. cheers

    Hey just wanted to thank you for publishing this video. REMEMBER TO CHECK BOTH FUSE BOXES don't be like me.. My 2000 Astro resistor burnt out so I replaced it. I did the light test but only got the (Always Hot) thick orange wire to test hot. So instead of using the "the simplest solution is normally the best solution" I decided to track wires back to the fuse box under hood. Removed grill, bumper nose, cooling fan splash guard to find no chafed wire.....I did fine just behind the battery a thin rectangular junction where the thick orange wire ran. I disconnected and found the harness has signs of burns and I m not sure why that is. When I wiggled that connection while testing the orange wire on the resistor side, the light tool would go on and off so I can only assume that junction is a contributing factor to this common issue. Any way finally was about to throw in the towel and looked online for fuse box locations. I didn't realize there is one under the driver side kicker panel. Wouldn't you know the 20amp ac fuse was blown. Replaced it and got all 4 terminals to light up using your method. I felt pretty green on this one. Thanks again. Ft.Lauderdale Fla

    Thanks for making this look so easy! I might try this because my blower fails to run on high speed. But the ac max works still at a lower speed than before though. Like the old regular high speed. Good information!

    Just did this on a bud's full size GM van. The instructions mentioned cutting the opening using a template (of course missing from the package). Looks like I should get an amp clamp.

    Thanks for your help. I have had some issues with my company vehicles over the years. My work buys 3500 Chevy and GMC vans for us. My last 3 vans have had issues. The 3rd to last had 2 resistors replaced and 1 blower motor, my 2nd to last van had 2 blower motors replaced. my current van has had the dash controls replaced and the a month later the resistor seems to be bad. Well that didn't work. I just replaced the resistor and same thing.

    I own a 2002 GMC Safari. My blower motor doesn't work on any speed, when turning on. When hitting a hard bump the right way, the motor kicks on. I pulled the coolant overfill and the windshield wiper fluid tank and checked the resistor harness, the connectors were clean. I hooked it back up and tried wiggling the harness in which the blower still did not turn on. I taped the top of the plastic cover (DELPHI) that's above the resistor and the motor started. What is the problem and what is in the black container that might be shorting?

    Just doing this myself and found no matter what brand resister pack you buy they are exactly the same. They are all just like the one you got. which is the one for earlier vans, There was a change somewhere around 2002, but they provide the same replacement part for all.

    Just loved them vans, drove one for 10 years never replaced the resistor though. Ivan did you notice the new resistor was built in Slovenia , Japanese or Korean manufactures generally don't use a European supplier, I think it great that Gm and Ford will. Was there not a notice in the box outlining a design change to the housing to alter ? The people in the Baltimore plant did a great job with the van I knew quite a few of them , sad day when it closed down. Very thorough testing Ivan. 👍

  • @stuzman52

    Nice work and diagnostics Ivan. You would think that when designers make a change, their first goal is to make it fit as it did before. And hopefully, the electronic design is better than it was before. I've seen dozens of revisions for industrial components such as PLCs which makes you think they couldn't get it right after all those times. As a side note, I had subscribed to you from your earlier video, but I guess the TH-cam programmers have been working again because you weren't listed in my subscriptions. Steve Rob helped me in locating your channel. Take care Ivan.

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stuzman52 Thanks Terry! Yeah looks like they decided to use discrete resistors in the updated version instead of printing them on a thin circuit board...Failure rate was probably too high on the original design :)

      motoYam82 The exact same thing happened to me after I had subscribed not showing you in the subscription list. When I went to your channel, it showed that I was unscribed. I clicked on the subscribe button again, and then you showed up in my subscription list. TH-cam must be doing some programming again giving us these quirks.

      +motoYam82 I had a blower motor's bushing go dry and the motor would not come on for the first two low speeds and screamed on the two higher speeds on my 2000 S10. I replaced the motor with an aftermarket motor and the two low speeds did not work. The blower motor resistor burned out because of no airflow at low speeds with the old motor. I replaced the resistor and all worked fine, except the new motor had a whine I could not live with. I finally regreased the bushing on the old blower motor and reinstalled it. All is good now. After seeing that the blower motor in your video would not come on when started at the lower speeds tells me it is old and tired and could possibly have caused the resistor burnout if the driver had not realized it was not functioning.

    My blower works on all settings but high? Could this still be the resistor? I’ve had a bad blower motor for a few years now where I have to hit it sometimes to get it to work, that would explain burning out the resistor right?

    off the topic but I see a small black plastic vacuum line while you were doing the final voltage check. Where does that connect to. I replaced my other lines, rotted, and have this last line that is currently taped up but have vent air and heat. No AC yet but baby steps. It has to plug into some p.ace over there, maybe the 4 outlet front heat thing. It is the other line that comes thru the firewall. looking thru Tube videos and pics to see where this goes to.

      the engine block to the 3 way. 1 goes thru firewall other goes to the resevoir. there is a long one coming out of firewall, not on the 3 way, and guessing there is another valve or switch this hooks up to that is mounted left and behind the resivoir bottles and the evap. may have something to do with ac too. it doesnt even crank on. I taped it up and now the fan works and blows air from the vents. Have heat now

    I have a 2013 Nissan sentra sr. Whichever speed setting I put the blower on, the fan blows how expected then it drops off and then speeds back up. The fan continues to do this continuously, regardless if I press the gas or if the engine is idling. When the fan is set to high the roller coaster effect is more noticeable.
    Do you think my blower motor is going bad, or could it be something else?

    I need some insight. I've had a lot of problems with my 2003 Astro van blower. I've replaced my resistor, the blower motor itself (because it was old and drawing too much power causing the resistor to keep blowing), and spliced in a new connector going to the resistor. My problem is the "high" setting. I am getting no power at the thick orange wire at the connector going into the resistor. I'm not sure what to check next...

      So I replaced my resistor and blower motor and climate control switch(used climate control) a couple months ago and had all the temps but high.. then It all stopped working and the fat orange wire that's suppose to be hot all the time wasnt.. so I spliced into my orange wire just after the wiring harness and also under the 30 amp fuse under the hood and connected them with a new 12 gauge wire and now I have high heat! But none of the others.. I'm guessing my resistor went out cause of that bad wire n will be replacing that later so hope hopefully I'll have all my settings working

      Yes ....all come up hot except the thin/smaller orange wire...no current...the last heavier orange wire is hot always...if there is a fuse and or relay under dash I can't identify it...that's where I'm hoping to find a fuse or relay gone bad...everything under hood checks out...I have all speeds except high speed on fan switch ..??

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there's your problem! The small orange wire should be hot on HI speed to turn on the relay that is built into the resistor assembly. Next step is to check this same wire at the blower switch on the dash. If it's not hot there either, you need a new blower switch.
