Thank you so much for these videos Sir, your examples are amazing and really helpful. I had an exam last week that I found not too bad solely because of your videos. Thank you!
3:11 Important to stress that the Marxian class dialectic ONLY focuses on the *way* in which a person gets their money. It doesn't look at education level, profession, or even the amount of wealth. Bourgeoisie in the Marxist sense refers to people who make their money by owning stuff (think landlords, big business types, but also the person who owns your corner shop), whereas the Proletariat are people who earn their money through wage labour, no matter their profession, education level, or level of pay.
What does equality of outcome really mean? I have seen various definitions e.g some suggesting that it is individuals getting as much out as they put in and others suggesting that it is merely a striving towards a reduction of inequality
Complete equality of outcome is that everyone has the same e.g. equal pay for all workers regardless of job. There are some complications to this such as theory speaks of all giving what they can to society and taking only what they need (need varies e.g. someone with a large family to feed compared to someone with no children). What most socialists want is greater equality of outcome meaning reducing the gap between the income and wealth of the well off and the poor. High tax rates on income and especially unearned income (e.g. inheritance) combined with generous welfare systems and intervention to ensure that all workers pay is high (e.g. strong Trade Unions) can be ways to achieve this.
