      Hey Emily, I am sure you did well on the paper !! on the last question, I did the Conservative question, but I didn't have much time so I only got to mention three key thinkers.........not really going through with their ideas -__- do we get mark for mentioning them or do we have to go full on analytical mode. I am so worried. :S

      @@harkarai744 hi :) I think you are supposed to at least mention some key ideas. Don't worry though - I'm sure you will still get good marks for mentioning some. I hope the rest of the exam went well

    Hey, just wanted to say I've found the videos on politics really useful, thanks. It's my understanding (from emails sent to my teacher by edexcel examiners) that ideologies questions will only be related to how the ideology views human nature, society, the economy or the state or it will ask how united the ideology is as a whole. Hope this was helpful.

    UK underwent a 34 year experiment in socialism from 1945 to 1979, from Attlee to Callaghan,...even the Tories went along with it,
    it was the Post-War concensus called ''Butskellism''. And,....it was a disaster.
    During those 34 wasted years, the UK declined and stagnated economically as Germany enjoyed an economic miracle from 1945
    and Hong Kong also prospered from 1961 as they too embraced free market capitalism. That terrible decline thankfully was reversed by Saint Maggie.

    2) Is it possible for you to link the table in the description so I could download it?

    You started off alright, but then you mentioned that Marx is supports "equality of outcome," which is patently false! In "Critique of the Gotha Programme," Marx explicitly states that he is not for equality of outcome:
    "But one man is superior to another physically, or mentally, and supplies more labor in the same time, or can labor for a longer time; and labor, to serve as a measure, must be defined by its duration or intensity, otherwise it ceases to be a standard of measurement. This equal right is an unequal right for unequal labor."
    What Marx believes in is equality of labour: if you work longer harder or smarter or longer, you receive more use value back from society; ie. the labour you put into society is equivalent the labour, in the form of commodities, that you get back.

    • @EmilyPayne
      @EmilyPayne  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How strange my teacher (who teaches history) said equality of outcome

    • @jiarho6956
      @jiarho6956 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilyPayne It's a pretty common misconception from Cold War Era propaganda. Funnily enough, Marx's Base-Superstructure relationship actually predicts this kind of propagandistic obfuscation: it's in the interest of the bourgeoisie to keep the public misinformed on Marxism as to dull revolutionary potential, so, as the state is an instrument of class rule, capitalist education is geared towards creating obedient workers to complacently generate profit. Marx can be a bit dense (especially Capital), but I would highly recommend that you read him for yourself; "Wage Labour and Capital" or "Critique of the Gotha Programme" are good places to start.
