5 Most Powerful Extinct Lion Species
For centuries, lions have been revered as kings. Their power, strength, and majesty are unmatched by any other land animal. But did you know that there were once even more powerful lion species that have since gone extinct?

I know the Barbary lion was used by the Romans in the colosseum. Makes me wonder if the cape lion used that way too. As the both had massive mains.which made them so majestic looking. All the breeds that are gone all has beatifull coats. What a shame
Your errors begin with the title; there is only 1 lion species and it is extant. This is because only members of Panthera leo are lions.
The Mosbach lion is not a lion. It is Panthera fossilis.
The American lion is not a lion. It is Panthera atrox.
The cave lion is not a lion. It is Panthera spelaea.
And for those thinking 'lion is in the name', common names should not be relied upon to determine what species is.
Actually, the Lion (Panthera leo) originated exclusively from Europe, therefore there are twelve valid lion subspecies: the †European Lion (Panthera leo fossilis), the Indian Lion (Panthera leo persica), the †Sri Lanka Lion (Panthera leo sinhaleyus), the †Egyptian Lion (Panthera leo aegyptiaca), the †Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo), the West African Lion (Panthera leo senegalensis), the Congo Lion (Panthera leo azandica), the Nubian Lion (Panthera leo nubica), the Ethiopian Lion (Panthera leo roosevelti), the Katanga Lion (Panthera leo bleyenberghi), the Transvaal Lion (Panthera leo krugeri), and the †Cape Lion (Panthera leo melanochaita)
Because the lion originated exclusively from Europe, the †European Lion (Panthera leo fossilis) evolved first, then followed by the split between two clades, which are the Panthera leo persica group (Asiatic Lions) and the Panthera leo leo group (African Lions) with the former containing the Indian Lion (Panthera leo persica) and the †Sri Lanka Lion (Panthera leo sinhaleyus) and the latter containing the †Egyptian Lion (Panthera leo aegyptiaca), the †Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo), the West African Lion (Panthera leo senegalensis), the Congo Lion (Panthera leo azandica), the Nubian Lion (Panthera leo nubica), the Ethiopian Lion (Panthera leo roosevelti), the Katanga Lion (Panthera leo bleyenberghi), the Transvaal Lion (Panthera leo krugeri), and the †Cape Lion (Panthera leo melanochaita)
Also, the cave lion and american lion do not belong to the Panthera genus anymore, the former now belongs to the genus Uncia alongside the tiger and ounce while the latter now belongs to the genus Jaguarius alongside the jaguar, both genera Uncia and Jaguarius are more closely related to bohebaos (genus Neofelis) with the latter being the sister genus to bohebaos.
@@indyreno2933 Beware of a commenter called Indy Reno posting nonsense taxonomy and other flawed info. He does this all the time and stubbornly ignores criticism. Further, when confronted, he frequently replies; 'actually' followed by a wall of even more flawed taxonomy, none of which addresses the first round of nonsense.
@Dr.Ian-Plect, there are now twenty extant genera of cats (family Felidae).
I clicked on the video because I thought there was going to be a Black lion in it................
