What a brilliant player🤩 I think Jens could make a 20 dollar banjo sound amazing.

Banjo review recorded in the room that Jens is playing in have the best acoustics of any banjo reviews I've seen on TH-cam.

Thanks so much Jens and for this video and thank you Deering Banjo Company for building the Calico! I ordered one last week, it is scheduled to be delivered in a couple weeks! This will be my 3rd banjo but a huge upgrade from my previous 2 imported banjo’s. I never plan to want or need to upgrade again, this Calico will be with me forever!

Jens, this wonderful video convinced me to buy one! It not only looks beautiful but it sounds even more beautiful! One serious consideration that I recommend that all potential buyers be aware of is the significant weight of the instrument. Even though the Calico is best sounding banjo I own my arms and shoulder always draw me back to playing my Vega White Oak banjo! Just something to think about.

Weight is certainly something to consider Is the Calico a more detailed version of the Sierra?

I downloaded two of your videos so that wifi won't slow them down, and I keep playing them over and over and over, lol. This one about the Calico and the one on the Sierra. Can't make up my mind which one I want. Driving me bonkers! Lol. But, thinking of getting one of them, even though I'm still just learning.

Haha same. I'm saving for a Sierra. Calico is a bit far out of reach.

I'm thinking the Sierra too. Like you said, price is better than the Calico. I think I like the lower, mellow sound on the Sierra more too. Both sound great, but I love the sound of the Sierra. I'm just learning. I figure it will be easier to learn on a very good banjo like the Sierra. All I have now is a Fender Fb54 and it's not easy, at all, on it. Action is high. Ive played guitar for many years, but now wanting to learn banjo. I've even been reading the history of the banjo. Thought that's a good place to start, lol.

Why don't you try a Deering goodtime to start with then graduate, you can always sell and trade up. The goodtime is a very easy play forgiving Banjo with an easy play action and very light. Great tone also. It enabled me to get back into playing after joint trouble with arthritis , i'm pushing 70. After 6 months i went the whole hog and bought a Calico, same easy play but beware its Very heavy ,but a fabulous instrument, good luck.

I have 2 Goodtimes, and a Maple Blossom. I saw and heard the Calico at a Bluegrass Fest. It is incredible and the prettiest banjo I have ever seen! With that said is didn’t sound much different than my Maple Blossom. I also play my Goodtimes allot they sound good and play very nice. Get a Goodtime 2 and start learning, then move up, looking at and buying new banjos is half the fun.

Hi, I would say start looking at the Sierra. This will give you a great starting point. After that, consider the Maple Blossom, Calico and Saratoga Star models. Hope this helps.

I can get the same sound on my piano by holding the sustain pedal down.
