2022 and seeing for the first time, thanks for sharing. Beautiful music, very educational. Jens Kruger (and a pandemic) inspired me to pick up music for the first time at age 50, in the form of melodic banjo. Jens is the best!
Jens has mad skills. And such a generous man.😁
Jens understands the banjo as a musical instrument, not a bluegrass instrument. He takes the banjo to places we never imagined it could go. So does Bela Fleck. But there aren't too many others. Most pickers are happy if they can get the crowd to go "Yee Haw!"
I've seen many banjo players frightened by what Jens can do, yet he is so kind & generous with his music. I started playing banjo because of "that sound." For decades I thought "that sound" could only be found in bluegrass. Jens showed me "that sound" rings throughout the entire Universe!
Jens is certainly one of the most if not the most poetic banjo player around. Thanks for sharing this marvel!
Beautiful, thanks for introducing a new sound on the banjo for me.
"If you want people to have music in their head, not only in their ear..."
Mind blown.
I liked that comment, too.
Jens, you’ve gotten into my head 🎶😃
Who gives stuff like this a thumbs down?! Whatever...
Amazing. What a beautiful piece of music. I really liked what he had to say about composing and about the pace of the music. It's not something that people pay much attention to until it's overly obvious that it is wrong/off. I also appreciated the fact that he said that the up the next part is difficult and it took him a long time and a lot of practice to get it right. As with you and so many of your fantastic guests he makes it look so easy.
Its nice to know the masters need to stretch for some stuff too, even after he has been practicing for 8 hours a day for years and years. I am imagine that its the need to find or write challenging pieces that drives people to reach that kind of level of playing.
Wow, amazing. Now I have to go practice more because guys like this are so damn good they make me feel inadequate.
Masterpiece
*Lengthy explanation of the roll pattern used in the piece*
Me: "Alright, I think I can get this!"
Jens: "And now the counter to that is..."
*Huge flood of notes*
Good for you!
Jump to 5:15 if you wanna give it a listen first... and cry a little too
I love Jens playing style and he got me back to playing the banjo but I don't play the normal bluegrass style and bring the banjo sound into other types of music.
I don't hear Beethoven but I do hear one of the GREAT under valued German composers, SL Weiss. By the way Jens is THE MAN.
Thanks so much for this. I've heard Jens Kruger play this piece before but didn't know what it was. I thought the first bit was Bach.

Thanks for posting this awesome video. What a great learning opportunity from one of the masters of the 5 string. The tab is also available (for $0.00) from the Kruger Brother's website: krugerbrothers.com/product/jens-krugers-tab-for-margarete/
Randall Cotten no problem, glad you dig it. It’s one of my all-time favorite videos. I do have the tab available for free as well when you sign up for my mailing list. Thanks for watching!
Can I get the tab for this.
What banjo model is he playing?
That's a Deering Jens Kruger model. It will set you back about 16k...
More like playing the piano.
