After 2 years there, I left to try freelance / independent content creation on TH-cam for awhile, before I head back to Feature Film!
    This is my journey- the entire process from when I decided I wanted to be an animator until I eventually get there, and everything along the way that will make it possible.

    If you want an object to have the same pivot point as another object the quickest way is where you click on an object (while in object mode) and then while holding shift select the object that has the pivot point that you want, then go to Modify > Match Transformations > Match Pivots and then the first selected object(s) will have the same pivot point as the last object you shift selected Remember that if you select multiple objects the pivot point of the last selected object is what all the other selected objects will have their pivot points set to. That is the fastest way to make multiple objects have the same pivot point! Just a tip for anyone who was wondering! :)

    You can also middle-mouse drag items in the outliner to parent them. I think this is the easiest and most intuitive as you see a visual representation in the outliner.

    for any fellow super noobs like me, wade did the smoothing by pressing the '2' or '3' key, if that doesn't work make sure your mesh is initially smoothed via Mesh --> Smooth

    I just found your channel, and I wanted to thank you for all of the resources you put out. I use Blender myself and I know ir fairly well, but I realize that despite difference in software the concepts of 3D animation are fundamentally the same. So, no, I don't really know of any specific Maya tutorial, but if it helps me be a better animator in genearl, I'm cool with that.

    Rhinoceros user for many years - Maya seems to do some very weird geometry things I need to get used to. Instead of duplicating an object, I used the Mirror command - but seemed to get an object that was linked to the original object in the transforms, instead of a separate object. Redid the whole thing using duplicate.

    I want an object that has rigs to follow a character's hand. Can I use it? Should I first click on the characters curve and then click on the object curve and hit p?

  • @randorific333
    @randorific333 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. I hope you'll answer this one quick question. I've created one robot and it looks AHHHHMAZING I must say. I have all of the parent constraints done and they also work as they should. Time now to create another robot. But when I select all then duplicate and move it, the various components move separately. I'm sure there's an easy fix for this. I tried selecting all and creating a group which then worked when I duplicated and moved it, but then I lost all of my parent constraints.

    How are you making objects be centered? Like the "pvc" parts around the poles? How do you make sure they're not off center? Great video :)

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To make sure the pivot point is centered, there's a center pivot function (if necessary) otherwise for positioning just make sure the transform values matched whatever you're aligning them to, before freezing any transforms :)

    three questions
    1. How do you texture things?
    2. How to you lock a ball or a box to the arm? I mean when your arm goes down and grab the box the box will follow the arm
    3. There i move my models it's really close, so when i need to move it to the right or left side i sometime grab the up and down

    The robotic arms I think fall into the mechanical rigging category, should I use only parenting for the joints, or is it better to use bind skin?

    • @Mikaelj

      David Ferrera if you should rig it properly i would say use joints and bind them, because then you can use ikHandle and more advanced rigging stuff

    You are very inspiring! I love your videos, but a little while ago you said you didn't recommended using Blender, since it's free. Can you please explain why you think about it that way? I just want to say that free software isn't necessarily bad.
    Anyway, great videos! :)

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think something got miscommunicated, I have nothing against Blender, especially since it's free- free software is the best! I just have no experience using Blender, and my recommendation goes to Maya since it's also available for free and is actually used in productions and in many or most studios :)

    • @daanklein880
      @daanklein880 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sir Wade Neistadt thanks! That cleared up some questions for me! I'm sorry for misunderstanding you! I think you are doing an amazing job on making videos! Even tough I'm using Blender, I still learn a lot of your videos! Keep it up! :)

    • @josephbrandenburg4373
      @josephbrandenburg4373 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daanklein880 I'm an avid Blender user, and I would recommend using it. There's a lot it does better than Maya (and visa versa, of course - but you should always use the best tool for the job!) Blender's especially good for modelling, because of its modifier-based workflow. Plus, it's lightweight and fast.
      Another thing is - Maya is a big player right now, but that can change overnight, like when Autodesk shut down softimage. Don't wed yourself to one tool; learn as much as possible.

    Hello Sir Wade, I commented on your videos a while back on some help with animating. My dream is still to go to collage for animation and work for Pixar, but I don't really know where to start. I'm 15 and I do simple animations but, I want to step it up to character animation. When I try to learn the simple things like walk cycles etc, I either can't get it right, or the TH-cam video doesn't explain right. I feel really stuck on what to do or how to start, or the best way to start. Please point me in the right direction. Thank you! Also I loved the video! I watch them all XD
