Exploring Tokyo's best snacks (First time in Japan)🇯🇵

- Join me as I show you this eventful day in Tokyo: From my first sushi in Japan, to chats with locals, to convenience store snacks, tourist spots such as Sensoji temple & Shibuya crosswalk, this day well and truly had it all...
I was feeling a little under the weather so my day started off with a trip to a local supermarket near Ueno metro station to pickup some fruit, coffee and a pack of tissues.
We then hit the first spot of the day, Sensoji temple. Touristy spots like this are sometimes a bit overwhelming so I didn't stay too long before heading over to the beautiful, tranquil Sumida River Park. This is where a local Japanese kid named Mim came up to me and we had a long chat about life.
By now it was midday and time to meet my friend from USA that has come to join me in Tokyo. Together, we walked around trying to find one of Tokyo's best street foods at a Ministop convenience store. We then took a walk around a local street market where we found an unexpected surprise...
On day two, I take a long walk around Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, one of Tokyo's most incredible parks to take in the atmosphere and have a moment to myself before heading back into the busy and bustling streets.
I came across Taito Games, which is an arcade next to Shibuya scramble crossing. It was one of the biggest and busiest arcades I've seen in my life. Next door was a Pachinko arcade, which I've heard is a very popular game amongst middle aged and older folk.
The day came to an end when we went to eat Sushi at an intimate little restaurant with a very homely feeling. The restaurant had been in the family for over 100 years... safe to say it was some of the best I've ever had!

Japanese people learn English in compulsory education, but we do not need English as long as we live in Japan. We have very few opportunities to use English, so we are not good at English conversation. However, since we use many English words as they are in Japanese conversation, most Japanese people can understand simple English words.
I'm Japanese. Welcome to Japan.
And you're probably allergic to cedar pollen. In Japan, many people are affected by it in February ~ March,
There seem to be a lot of comments from Japanese people who point out too many details, but you don't have to be so nervous.
Enjoy all things Japan.
Yes, that may be! I appreciate that.

This is a valuable and nice journey for you. I pray that the conflicts between you, the boy, and us will eventually make the world a little more perfect✌
Because Japan is an island nation, there was no need to learn foreign languages for many years. Younger generations are starting to learn English. It would be very helpful if you could prepare a translation app etc.
In Japanese culture, it's not good to eat while walking or take videos without permission, but I'm really happy that people think Japanese food is delicious. Enjoy sightseeing.
love the long form bro its such a breath of fresh air man
Loving these videos Oli, an excellent insight to Japan.
In Japan, it is considered bad manners to eat and drink while walking, so there are no trash cans to dispose of garbage after eating or drinking. The other reason is to prevent terrorism.
Trash cans are sometimes behind vending machines 😂
No one cares man. Dude is just passing through and not hurting anyone. Japanese people don't expect foreigners to know any of the customs. Even if you did, you'd still be viewed as a bakagaijin.

Unlike game centers, pachinko can be exchanged for cash. If you play pachinko and take the extra pachinko balls to the prize exchange office, you can receive prizes. Of course, you can just take the prize and go home, but there is a place behind the pachinko parlor where you can exchange the prize for cash, and many people do so there.

Do you know about Ameya Yokocho (Ameyoko), the crazy street in Ueno? Have you been there? It's my favorite street in Tokyo.
I'm loving your japan videos!
I hope you enjoyed your awesome trip in tokyo :3 i only watched your first vid (but in 1go xD) now i'm subscribed because you are good with speaking on cam and interesting to watch with your glowing eyes and excitement ;D sadly, i must wait a year longer to see tokyo for the second time i follow a bunch of english speaking youtubers and probably watched 80%of all tokyo vlogs und recommendation videos on youtube to not miss a single highlight to see and do, to shorten the wait a little. I hope you can come back soon and have a longer stay to see more of all the cool places you didn't saw on this trip.
There are more videos from Japan coming soon 🙂 I also can’t wait to come back for a second time, but I don’t quite know when that’ll be yet
Oli-san, thank you for the video and I'm enjoying them. One thing that I would like to tell you is, kindly avoid entering the temple with a drink or food. It is a purified place especially in the morning when the monk is reading sutras. We would like you to be devout and polite even though you are not a Buddhist and so would we in the church when we are in western countries.
You are able to have some food and drink on the day of the temple fair, as they organize street stalls.
Get IC Pasmo card for trains and you can use it for pay in stores also
💦My goodness, all those delicious foods every where! I was so jealous watching it to be honest because we can't get most of those outside Japan where I live and I miss all of them so much! (I'm Japanese and live in Canada now for 30 yrs) I'm so glad you made it to the real traditional Japanese sushi restaurant with your friends. That's the true sushi experience in Japan for authentic dishes and style. It was absolutely mouthwatering watching it though. 🤤 The teen age Japanese/Korean/Brazilian guy reminded of myself when I was around his age. I'm mix with a 1/4 of Filipino but not because of my ethnic background but it's because where I grew up partly in Mexico when I was much younger with my family and then we went back to Japan afterwards. I was pretty much Mexicanized (is it a word?) or westernized more or less by the time my family returned to Japan and it was a bit of a struggle for me as well trying to fit in to Japanese society and culture although I was still young. I did all right trying to become Japanese again but as I was growing older particularly in my late teens, I had kind of a identity crisis perhaps just like that young guy you were having conversation with by Sumida river. I wasn't sure whether I was Japanese, Mexican or something else. I also became more aware about my sexuality as a gay man but Japan wasn't so open and definitely not as "inclusive" as it is now back then so I always had to suppress myself and to pretend to be as a straight man as possibly I could at that time but it was not a happy life for me. So all of that experience about my life made me think and wanted to live somewhere in a foreign country so I started to prepare myself to achieve that goal and dream myself until my whole family also decided to move to Canada but it was already when I was in my 20's. I wished I moved to Canada when I was much younger. Living in Japan where it's still a monoethnic country, being a bi racial, multi racial or returnee growing up abroad like myself would experience almost the same experience or sense of being always an outsider because majority of Japanese people would look at them differently or sometimes treat them differently without any mal intention. You also notice yourself that the way you think and what you accustom to are different from typical Japanese people. I also feel the similar way even now living in Canada after 30 years because I fall into somewhere in between Japan and Canada but I had already accepted and embraced myself to be ok to be different and especially living in Canada makes me feel safe as most of us here are immigrant from all different parts of the world. Thanks for another interesting video about Tokyo, it was very entertaining to watch an English man wandering around the huge mega strange place in Tokyo. I wished you could stay longer in Japan to the point where you could even speak in Japanese with other Japanese people but we will save that for the near future, shall we? LOL
It was fun!! I like TOKYO,but I don't like to go to there😂Because, Tokyo is very confused. But thanks to you, I felt like I was traveling and had fun.
I wonder how long it took you to just ask someone about trash bins. They're in every convenience store xD.

1995年の地下鉄サリン事件以降、不審物を隠すことができる場所になるとしてゴミ箱が撤去されてきたという経緯があります。sorry🥲
Thanks for adding context as I wasn’t aware of that. It’s not a big issue, just had to get used to carrying it for a while. 🙂

As a Japanese person, I am very happy that you find the simple everyday life of Japan attractive and share it with the world.
And, we Japanese people should be a little more tolerant. It is a breach of etiquette to point out small things about people who are clearly enjoying and respecting our culture. It is natural that there are some differences in behavior because it is a different culture. Rather, they are trying to blend in as much as possible with the Japanese atmosphere.
Thank you, I appreciate that
