    I rarely leave comments on videos but I had to take the time to post one today. For starters, amazing review of this product. I just got mine today and I am super excited to dive into its features and transform my sets. Secondly I love that you shedded light on the current state of the DJ world. I see so many guys bashing DJs who use controllers. I don't see anything wrong with using controllers especially one like this. The Roland DJ-505 is seemingly redefining what it means to be a DJ, as well as pushing the culture forward. People are so apprehensive in regards to change and its crazy to me. All in all anyone can run to a music store and buy DJ equipment and ultimately call themselves a DJ. It's the talent behind the equipment that makes you stand out and become a force to be reckoned with.

      Exactly. If someone says they can DJ that means nothing to me until I see them perform.

    Yo! I loved your review on this. I started djing a year ago and this is my first DJ equipment. I bought it specifically for the freedom to be creative and have the tr-s sequencer to start my music production. I honestly couldn't be happier with this controller. Thanks for the video.

    No matter how many DJs are out there because of apps and touch screens; Talent is not electronic.
    Talent is a God given gift.

    Just an FYI, you'll want to use 'SYNC' if you're using the TR-S sequencer with your Serato tracks but totally get your point about not wanting to use sync for your DJ sets.

    I'm very happy finding out this doesn't require Serato for the Drum Machine functions. Major bonus

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely is a great bonus! Can you imagine the benefit it has if you're doing live shows with an artist?

      2 dumbasses. Then just get a regular fuckin drum machine then.

    I have the DJ-808 & and it has a split mono/stereo cue switch. What I didn't like is it doesn't have line i/o switches to do transform effects like on most mixers or eq kill switches which I would've preferred. The fader is dope & you can internally set things in the firmware, but overall I'm happy. I'm an old schooler from the turntablist comunity & many of these controllers expand the artform exponentially which is much more important than ego & ignorance.

  • @riversideart8874
    @riversideart8874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    does the tempo fader have limits on bpm? can it go low low like 40, 30, 20 bpm?? this is like my burning question before purchasing one. thanks so much for this vid, love your pace and the way you speak ✌🤘🌼

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is 8, 16, and 50+ (aka max) for bpm range. You hit the SHIFT button and adjust to the setting you want in Serato. I'm a huge fan of adjusting tempo for transitions and this has never failed me. Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you end up getting it! :)

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats! There aren't any microphone effects on this device. To be honest, I don't like plugging my microphone in to the controller... I use an additional mixer because it sounds better.

      @@DJUnprotected thanks for the follow up my dude. I really wanted this controller, but because of the reviews of bad slip plates freezing and the biggest complaint of it not feeling like it was built solid and made with cheap plastic. I decided to go with pioneer, but if Roland comes out with a more beefer version I’m grabbing one.

    Hi. Nice review. I'd like to know How easy/hard is to create a 2 bar sequence on that sequencer? And how responsive are those pads when you create the rolls/fills. Thanks

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fero Povazan great questions! I'll answer those in-depth in my next video. But for a short answer, I dont find it that difficult to create a 2 bar sequence and the pads are very responsive to rolls/fills.

    • @recloose2041
      @recloose2041 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Easy to create- each sequence is one bar (in 16 scale, which you're likely using). Select 2 sequences (or as many as you want up to 16) to create a longer sequence. Then enter in step sequencer as it plays or use 'Inst-Rec' mode to play it in live.

    Hi I might buy this controller , but I don’t know the difference between the DJ505 and DJ808 , is the difference just about channels and prizes?

    • @djdjpaul
      @djdjpaul 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was gonna ask the same question. From what I can tell the 808 has a much different mic set up. Has effects on the mic on the 808.

    • @DJuncleO
      @DJuncleO 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it has autotune, split /cue switch, 4 channel mixer & its, of course, bigger & heavier. I got the 808 before I knew about the 505 & 202. Not mad

  • @junglist1soldier
    @junglist1soldier 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you think 2 year's later? I just got one! Just wished they had a light for the cue point header & a longer pitch control. That's my only gripes.
    Oh, know anyone who's changed the cap's? I want to install some rubberized colored ones. Then maybe an Innofader after the warranty.

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I hope you get a case for it! That's awesome, man. I still love it 2 years later. The sampler is great for drops and effects for events. My complaint is the mic input... I use an additional mixer bc there's only a mic input level knob and no EQ options. Other than that, solid unit and is my main piece of gear for DJ gigs.

    • @junglist1soldier
      @junglist1soldier 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DJUnprotected yeah, I plan on getting the Pro X case for it. Not all black though because of paint getting scratched off. Unless, I have to get it. I'm also going to get the Mackie 5 mixer. I'd get the Roland carrying bag but, I need a case for a surface so I can just place it on one of those fold out stand's. Then I won't need a table/booth.
      I also plan on connecting a Novation Circuit & maybe some synth's later on.
      Have you posted any new vids with your 505?

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@junglist1soldier I haven't posted any new vids on TH-cam but I do occasionally post transition videos on my IG. You can check them out @unprotected. I have the soft case and I think you've got a solid plan laid out. I am almost more paranoid about forgetting my table/table cloth than I am about my laptop when going to gigs. A hard case would be cool, I just wanted to go light weight. The DJ 505 is a great piece of gear, just have to keep it safe!

    Do you think this one is a good choice for mobile DJs?

    • @DJUnprotected
      @DJUnprotected  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! I've used it for two private gigs already and plan on using it again this weekend for a few more events. I don't like the lack of control over the mic EQs on this controller, so I use an external mixer for my mics. Other than that, I find this to be a great controller that can be well suited for mobile DJs. I wish you the best!

    • @jamesw2831
      @jamesw2831 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
