Great tutorial! I've started DJing back in 2002 with vinyl. Had Numark NS7 controller in 2009. Sold it all when got married and 3 kids later, want to get back into it. Decided to get the 505. Waiting for it to arrive.
Great choice! Make sure to sign up for the Roland cloud academy for the DJ-505. Lots of useful tips and tricks. I hear ya with the family life. Gotta squeeze time in for yourself! Thanks for the support!
Best tutorial on YT for this. A lot of people were asking about the pitch play mode and selecting different cue points to trigger this function from. Great job.
Fantastic Video. Learned a lot in just one video session. Pace was perfect for this material. You seem to know these machines very well. Would love to see your favorite Midi Mappings on the 505. The sync button you showed us on Roland Cloud was very useful. Beatgrid tips and tricks would be great. Thanks, you rock!
Thanks for this video. I have the TR-8s and considering to purchase the DJ-505. Can you please let me know if these units can be synced? I watched your performance using the dj-808 and tr-8s. Thanks.
Hi Unit:E, any new interesting video on the way? I'm waiting for it! Your tutorials are very simple and clear, I like your style. What about tr8s "song mode" tutorial (linking scenes and patterns)? It will be really appreciated. Regards
I have some more videos coming. Next will be a focus on the TR-S section of the DJ-808 and DJ-505. Then, I will do a few more on the TR-8S. I do want to do one about pattern chaining and how to seamlessly move between songs. Thank you for the support and kind words. Its what keeps me motivated to make more!
Great demo! This may be a very noob question, but how do you get your pause to sound like an actual record when pressing the button? Mine is set to just stop directly. Is this a DJ-505 setting or a Serato feature? Thanks in advance!
is there a volume knob/slider on the 505 controller that controlles the volume of each sample. there is a volume slider beside the sample in serato but i can not find a sampe volme slider on the hardware. is there one? many thanks for your video.
@@ethnopiper1 yes, there kind of is. If you select that sample up on the step sequencer when in instrument mode, you can use the volume pot for the drum sequencer to adjust the volume of that sample, just like the built-in drum sounds.
I had another question for you. I saw your video on the MC-707. Have you tried connecting the MC-707 to the DJ 505. I have a DJ 707M coming soon as well as a MC-101 and I am hoping they will play well together. I am going to patch the MC-101 into the aux in on the DJ 707M so that I can still use the controls of the DJ mixer. Will the MC-101 work the same as you showed in your video using the MC-707 with a MIDI controller?
I want to use the Akai MPK 249 to control the MC-101. I am also getting my MPC Live into the mix as well. I have a lot going on, but think I can get it to work.
I have plugged the MC-707 into a channel on the DJ-505 and ran the Midi out of the 505 into the 707 for tempo sync and start/stop control. You can plug a Midi controller into the 101 and play it that way. Send then101 audio into the 707M. If the midi controller has a Midi in as well as out, then run Midi out of the 707M into the Midi controller, then out of the controller to the 101.
@@UnitE808 Thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate it. I think I can run the MIDI out of the Roland DJ 707M into my MPC Live and then into the Akai MPK249 and finally into the MC-101 and all will be in sync with the Roland DJ controller. I also have 2 sets of MIDI in/out on the MPC Live so this makes it possible to use two ins and outs. And with Ableton link, I can get Ableton into the mix. Like I need more stuff. Thanks again for the help.
I noticed you said that the velocity setting can not be recorded into the TR sequencer, but you can record live into the sequencer without velocity. Can you then save whatever you record live into the TR as one of the 16 presets?
Hello, very good work. Can you tell me if one may live record into the sampler from the mic, while playing back a track, and then play and record the sample using the TR sequencer, all without stopping?
Hi, i also have a Roland DJ505. is there a way of using pads independently from deck 1 and deck 2. i am cuing clips on deck 1, i fill all the pads, so i move to deck 2, but deck 2 pads are already highlighted as deck 1, when i delete the pads on deck 2, pads on deck 1 also disappear. can i fill pads also on deck 2 without loosing the samples on deck 1? thanks for any help.
@@UnitE808 Thanks for replying. I am talking about cue points. i have a long track 20 minutes long, and i am cueing points with the pads. deck 1 holds 8 cue points, but deck 2 only mirrors deck 1. it lights up with the same cue pints, when i try to delete them, they are also deleted from deck 1. how can i separate deck 1 from deck 2?
Ok, thank you. This is what I was wondering about. Yes it is the same audio track. I wanted to have more than 8 pads working as there was lots of segments I wanted to use. I thought to load the same audio track onto deck 2 and add more. But seems 8 is the limit? Is there no way around this? Thank you for clearing that up for me. Thank you also for your video, I liked the way you explain things and I learned a lot from it. I am guessing you don't have the dj505 anymore, so no more tutorials?
There is a lot to learn! You will need to download and install driver on your computer before connecting the 505. Then you should update the firmware, directions are on the roland website. Loading decks is as easy as selecting a song in the Serato library, then pushing the load button on your controller. You might want to watch a few intro videos to Serato to understand how to add songs to your library.
Great great tutorial on this deck. This is my top choice to buy. I got one question. Does this deck have the same color voice effects like the Pioneer 800 does? Thanks for taking the time to really show case this controller.

They can be synced using a standard midi cable.
@@UnitE808 Thanks! I appreciate it.
hello everything is fine? Is it possible to synchronize the Mc 707 with the Roland Dj 505?
Yes. Send midi out of DJ-505 to Midi in of MC-707.

Its a Serato feature. Look in the settings menu. Its called start speed and stop speed

Yes. All patterns are automatically saved. The only velocity recording that doesn't work is the sampler velocity.

You cannot live record into the sampler. You can sequence the sampler with the TR-S
if you had another midi device you can live record into you could then run it through the sequencer live though
thanks - great work!

Are you talking about the sampler? Only 1 bank of samples can be used at a time. If you are talking about cuepoints, each deck works independently.
The pads do not hold the samples. They just trigger the samples that are loaded into the sampler.

You can use the hardware filter on the channel you run it through, but not the serato fx

There are quite a few fx within Serato to lay on the decks. There is pitch shifters and echos etc...
