- These Wunderlich Handlebar risers are an expensive, but incredibly made, accessory. But if you are 6' 3" and find the RT slightly uncomfortable then maybe they are the answer. After fitting, which is not as easy as we thought, Mike has found that they have transformed his bike, loves them! At 5' 8" not for me, the RT is comfort on two wheels as it is.
I just bought a 2017 RT and was looking for ways to adjust the angle of the handlebars. I now realize I have Wunderlich Risers installed. Based on this video and some of the comments, I guess I had better learn to live with them. Thanks for the video.
Hi Austinman, yeh I think you are right. When I fitted them I thought how on earth would you get them off without a torch 😱
@@normski3091 One more question, if I may. The screw located under the left handlebar grip (at 1:46 in the video), does that determine the rotation of the switch cluster on the bar. In other words, if I want to rotate the switch cluster, I will have to either, rotate the handlebar so the screw will go back in the hole, or drill another hole? Drilling holes is a last resort.
I get the impression whoever fitted the risers put the handlebar back in, refitted the switch cluster, realized it was rotated too far anti-clockwise, and decided to leave it. Here is me, new to the bike, and I keep hitting the horn instead of the indicator switch.
Hi Austinman, I had a look back at the video. I am not sure but if I remember I think the bolt goes through a hole set in the handlebars. This would mean that you cannot undo and turn🤔. I cannot check either because my RT has been traded in for my 1250GS.
If you find and take out the bolt you will be able to see the length of it🤷🏼♂️. Wish I could be more help??
A joy to watch problem solving Norman. If you think the dipped bulb was a PITA to change, just wait until you have to do the main beams!
After extracting the black handlebar from its original location, remove the black paint from about 3/4 of the narrow portion. Will be much easier to insert in the riser. After removing riser from freezer, place it in position and insert black handlebar and tap in place. Then let the riser come to ambient temperature and it will lock itself in place. Then tighten to specs.
I agree with the idea of removing some paint. I used some wet & dry and a few minutes removed enough for the handlebars to slide in easily, no mallet required. Also I did not need the freezer approach - the bold pulls the riser snugly into place.
Thanks so much Normsky. I do not think I would have been able to fit these risers on my 2018 1200RT without your excellent video. The Wunderlich notice is just pathetic, specially to locate the tiny screws inside the commands. As you have commented there is no need to remove the electrical connectors as there is enough cable slack to slide the handles out of the bars. But great equipment. I am back to my GS comfortable driving ergonomics with this accessory.
I am not a fan of this design. But thanks for demonstrating the install.
Hello Normski. I used to own a 2018 R1200 RT but recently sold that one and instead I bought a 2020 R1250RS. Question: Do you know if there are bar risers like the onse shown in this video that would be suitable to the 1250RS? I already installed helibar risers on my 1250RS, however they still do not provide sufficient relief for my hands and shoulders. It seems to me that the kind of riser you show in this video would make a big difference. I also prefer to not install a GS like handlebar instead of the original one that comes with the RS. Can you advise? Many thanks!!!
Hi YL, I looked at the German Wunderlich site and they do make bar risers for a 2020 R1250RS : Wunderlich Handlebar riser ERGO+ - silver
Part No. 31000-301
€139.90
Prices incl. 19% VAT plus shipping costs
Hope that helps😀
@@normski3091 Hello Normski, I at fault as I never thanked you for your reply to my question. So, thank you very much!! And yes, I am aware of Wunderlich's bar risers for the 1250RS. However, I wish they had the kind you installed on the RT as they most likely provide much more relief than those offered for the RS...
Hi Norman i received my RAM mounts and they are great, watching this video on the risers looks like a bit of a nightmare, i purchased some cheaper bar backs for my RT (2022) and thought it would be a easy job. I don't have the removal tool for the bars and cant seem to get them anywhere can you tell me what size they are? being an electrician I can easily get 20mm or 25mm tube and cut it to length.
On another subject i have just ordered my Insta360 does your gopro remote mount fit the insta remote?
Hi Steve, As you can see on the video the removal is a nightmare. The extraction tube, bolt and washer came with the Wunderlich Riser kit. The tube is 280mm long, 25mm outside diameter and 23mm inside diameter. The reason I know is that I have just found it!! Thought I would have used that long ago and cut it up. If it helps I can post it to you, no cost. You will have to find a bolt and washer. The GoPro mount will not fit the Insta remote. In fact the GoPro mount will not fit the latest GoPro remotes anymore and I have had to come up with a totally new mount for the GoPro remote (on my web site). Let me look back at my video's to see how I fitted the Insta remote. Will come back to you.
Hi Steve, Had to look at my TH-cam video on the Insta 360 mounted to my RT. I remember the Insta Remote came with a 'half round' plastic holder. I made a solid bar of brass the same diameter as that and drilled it to bolt onto the RH bar as you see in the video. It worked and held the remote fine but just too small to be able to read anything while I rode. However the remotes I believe have changed so whole idea might be different as per GoPro. ??
@@normski3091 Hi Norman that would be great if you can sent tool, don’t mind paying postage. If I get the bar backs on they have a bar for mounting things so I should be able to use the selfie stick strap. Thanks again Norman
Hi Steve...do I send it to Basingstoke Fire Protection as before?
@@normski3091 yes please Norman
I bought a used 2019 RT WITH the risers... How do you get the risers off??? Use a sledgehammer? I don't want/need them.
Hi Jeff, That is an interesting question. When we fitted them I said to Mike, who's bike it was, don't ever ask me to take them off. Because I had to leave them in the freezer all night to make them fit I can see no way of removing them...I really can't. Think you would have to heat them up and that, I believe, would cause too much damage elsewhere. You are going to have to love them Jeff?
No, I'm not a big fan! Rather have them gone.
@@jeffwhite3219 If you work out how to do it let me know Jeff. Mike traded his RT for a new 1250GSA so I will never have to remove them!
@jeff White Did you manage to remove the risers? If yes, any advice on how to remove/adjust them?
@@austinman1234567 I finally took it to the local BMW shop. They were about ready to give up, then they used some cold spray, and they broke it loose.
I have a bmw rt and I want to install that risers, but I have a question, I don't only want to rise it the handlebar I need to move closer to my body, how close it can be the handlebar with this risers
Hi JD, it was my biking friend Mikes’s bike, which he has sold now. If I remember they just took the Handlebars straight up, nor towards the rider🤔
@@normski3091 thank you very much
Can this be done on a 2008 R1200RT?
Hi James, If you go onto the Wunderlich website in Germany and enter 1200RT 2008 as your model and then Bar Risers they come up. Around £170. 😀
F++king frightening !! Thank God I’ve only got an RS, so don’t have this terrifying ordeal to go through - and what’s if you don’t like the finished bar angle ……. ?? Urgh NO NO NO Wunderlich
It is one Wunderlich part I would never buy….well together with the Easy Mover trolley which isn’t 🥵
You DON'T use a torque wrench !!!! It's for Torqueing.
Absolutely 👍
Wonderful lad great sense of humour, self deprecatrion no trouble, but the mechanical genes where are they?
Don't mention the war
Ha ha....absolutely 🤪🤣
