Bleedin' Nora!! The man's right, you know. Airplane mode on your phone reduces the chatter massively. I found my smart watch contributed as well! That info really needs to be in the manual. Thanks 👍.
Sometimes my phone drives it crazy and other times no effect. I think it depends on the frequency the detector is using. Cut that phone off and try it.
This happened to me today all off the sudden!!! And I did switch my cell to from my back to my front pocket! I was so frustrated. Thank you for this information!!! Thank you thank you so much
Thank you SO MUCH! I'm very new at this and my detector did fine the first two times out. After that, it was so chirpy and unstable I didn't know what to do. I talked to Minelab Customer Service (super nice person) and checked a few settings and cleaned the coil and still got the chirps, random numbers, and instability. I was in the middle of typing an email to Minelab and possibily sending mine in for service when I took one more chance to search online for a fix. And I found your video! It's dark outside now, but I will for sure try this tomorrow. If the cell phone interference is the issue with mine, I am just so grateful that you posted this fix!
Had the same problem with my 800 equinox. Didn't try airplane mode. Just put my phone behind me in touch at the small of my back. Seemed to help, but I still had issues pinpointing. Was driving me nuts. Definitely going to try this. Thanks bud!! Could narrow down on the cussing and false digs, lol..
While waiting for my name to come up to the top of the waiting list and I get my Equinox 800, I'm soaking up video after video related to the detector. I downloaded the manual and have read it 'dozens' of times ... well, almost. Anyway, I can't wait for this machine to arrive so I can put your helpful hints to use. Thanks for your videos. BTW, I'm upgrading from my current detector - a White's 5000D that I bought back in 1983. Boy, has the technology changed!!!
Strangely enough, my new 800 advertises that I can connect my phone to the BT headset. I had a tremendous amount of noise. I had no idea that the boots that I was wearing were "steel toe boots". 😂 Thanks for the video... It got me thinking.
Thanks Steve... I kinda figured this out on my own by way of this........ At the beach and a friend that was standing by me took a pic of a ring and sent it as a text to everyone of our friends... as the text was sending my detector went nuts... when the text was finished sending my detector stabilized again... So we did it again.... sent another text and machine goes crazy... when done sending all better... My point is that others around you.... and there are a lot of people on the beach with there cells, could be a reason for your machine at times to go nuts... Good job on putting this out ... thanks! Thanks Gigmaster!! I just got my Nox 2 days ago and I am having difficulty knowing the settings for Noise cancel and ground balance, which is the most important thing to do before any hunt. I know that much anyway!! But figuring out the machine can be overwhelming!!
Mr. Beepers Just use the machines default settings at first and get out there! You will do fine. All the rest is just fine tuning and is not critical. Good luck!

Hi, in the manual it explains when you Noise cancel the machine MUST be off the ground , in the video it looks like you are going through noise cancel with coil on the ground.

I have not had any trouble or chatter with my phone (samsung) turned on with mobile-data as usual. But I turned on the nox while inside my house just after getting it a couple days ago, and it went absolutely nuts. Havent tried it just outside my house yet, but I suspect it would go bonkers just the same, the whole neighbourhood has wifi routers and DAB-radios so I just figured them to be the culprits. But out in the field its dead quiet so far, guessing powerlines and celltowers would make it chatty though.

Thanks for this video. I have a Manticore and I took it to the ocean beach and a few inland parks and I mostly get the chatter or unrepeatable tones when swinging my coil over the ground. I'll use all your tips and also maybe lower the sensitivity even lower than 20. I was still having trouble using 18 in some places.. perhaps the areas I am trying to detect have lots of EMI and/or are a bit trashy too

Thanks for the air plane mode tip. I've done all the other things but still have trouble every once in awhile. I don't know about you, but I've been finding a lot more nickles with this thing. I think it's because everyone else (including me) passed them up thinking they were pull tabs. Result being, a lot more nickles still in the ground.
Hey Gig I just got the 900 and had the same problem even when I left my phone behind. Come to find out the Apple Watch on my swinging wrist caused the interference.
Sorry to comment on an old video but I just bought a nod 800 and only been out once but in field 2 because ( because you use it) I got feedback on every blade of grass or any vegetation I would touch ( not bump hard ). Is this a common thing with this machine ? If so how do you hunt in thick areas?

I had it on field 1 and no matter what I put the thresh hold on there was an annoying hum. I did the noise canceling as well as the ground balance! This was also my first time using it. I just received it last Monday!
Mine was chattering today . If and if I just lightly touched my coil it would change., The connector on the back of the head was loose. Lightly snugged it up and quieted right down. Acted very similar.
Hi Gigmaster..I get chatter on local beaches...I never thought of this before. How close to phones is this emf caused? Unfortuneately...I can not turn sunbathers phones to airplane mode. The only thing I found so far that works is change to Park 1 single frequecy 15.

Steve, it is due to the equinox bluetooth capability for the headphones. If you turn off the bluetooth on the phone, there will be no interference on the machine.
I cut wifi and bluetooth off and still had the problem. I have not identified which RF signal it is coming out of the phone but I suspect it is the carrier signal talking to the tower. (verizon)
I was having some chatter problems detecting this past weekend. Tried putting my phone in airplane mode but still was hearing the chatter then I noticed a cell phone tower about 100 yards away. The farther I walked from it the less chatter I heard.
I have an old 1980's garrett gta x500. Sometimes I switch from the nox to the 500 and still find coins n jewellery. But in saying this, have you tried setting your nox to 5 or ten khz instead of multi.
That was worth watching ...Still looking to find the elusive 800 Equinox but trying to learning as much as possible so i can get going when i get one in a few years LOL

Sometimes none of this will work. Unless I turn my sensitivity down to 10 or 12. What depth do we get at that setting? ONE OTHER WAY is to take it out of Multi-frequency mode.
I just bought my third Equinox and all three had the same problem. I have to turn down sensitivity to 10 or 12 in some areas I'm guessing the depth is down to only three or four inches but nothing else works... ground balance, turning off airplane mode Wi-Fi. and did factory restores... Chatter stays The only thing I've noticed for sure is all three of my Equinox has have their own personality and they all act a little different in the same situation nothing is written in stone when it comes to sensitivity.
Its a bloody nightmare on my beaches . Every bugger has their phone on and i cannot do any tops dry beach at all . I sussed it a while back and confirmed it when on one search the tide was going out people started to come down towards the lower beach and the noise started . I think using the wireless phones is main culprit , unless you have had the noise without them running ? Minelab should have sussed this problem before release . A bit sloppy i think , it shows they have been out of the relic machine designing game for a long time and the show off machine CTX was another that shows it too . They should not have been in such a hurry sacking or retiring their more experienced staff . Relearning is costly and competition wont be slow to take advantage as XP and Garrett have shown.
You mention in one of the comments below, that turning off Bluetooth and WiFi on your phone did not fix the issue. Can you get into the phone's settings and turn off Data alone? Also and i may be reaching here, but is your phone GSM or CDMA? I wonder if it may be related to the type of carrier signal.
That is a good question that I can not answer yet! I want to get very good with it before my water season gets going. I am hoping it will be my water go to machine for sure. On land I have not had enough time between the Deus and Nox to make a decision on that. Either way I think they will be pretty equal on land. The Deus in water is still a little scary even with my waterproofing mods. Good luck and Happy hunting!

Having the coil off the ground when you do a noise cancel is best. Glad you sorted out the chatter. I have a Samsung S8 and it doesn't interfere.

Noise cancel and ground balance is a must. Default settings are not optimal in this case.

Basically Bros Gold setting 2 and adjust sensitivity and do a noise cancel. Good luck!
Sensitivity at 25... Fisher F2/F4 & ATGold also have issues with WiFi.

I have to turn down sensitivity to 10 or 12 in some areas I'm guessing the depth is down to only three or four inches but nothing else works... ground balance, turning off airplane mode Wi-Fi. and did factory restores... Chatter stays
The only thing I've noticed for sure is all three of my Equinox has have their own personality and they all act a little different in the same situation nothing is written in stone when it comes to sensitivity.
What is error 61?
Its a bloody nightmare on my beaches . Every bugger has their phone on and i cannot do any tops dry beach at all .
I sussed it a while back and confirmed it when on one search the tide was going out people started to come down towards the lower beach and the noise started . I think using the wireless phones is main culprit , unless you have had the noise without them running ?
Minelab should have sussed this problem before release . A bit sloppy i think , it shows they have been out of the relic machine designing game for a long time and the show off machine CTX was another that shows it too .
They should not have been in such a hurry sacking or retiring their more experienced staff .
Relearning is costly and competition wont be slow to take advantage as XP and Garrett have shown.

You mention in one of the comments below, that turning off Bluetooth and WiFi on your phone did not fix the issue. Can you get into the phone's settings and turn off Data alone? Also and i may be reaching here, but is your phone GSM or CDMA? I wonder if it may be related to the type of carrier signal.

That is a good question that I can not answer yet! I want to get very good with it before my water season gets going. I am hoping it will be my water go to machine for sure. On land I have not had enough time between the Deus and Nox to make a decision on that. Either way I think they will be pretty equal on land. The Deus in water is still a little scary even with my waterproofing mods. Good luck and Happy hunting!
