there's a program floating around that you can force the curve optimizer function on x3D ryzen, makes my X3D run from 4.3 @ 90c to 4.45ghz @ high 70s c cause it's boosting higher because of lower temps (I got an 280mm Arctic Freezer II) and it uses about 20 or so less watts
Petricor's S4MAX is the most impressive SFF build I have ever seen in terms of packing crazy hardware into an impossibly small space. But this is an incredibly impressive build, and the retro chic is on a whole other level.
you should have cut the "nubbin" off instead of removing the rear shield on the motherboard, less chance of it shorting and it would help dissipate heat.
turned out great ! linus is the rich grandpa that is invested but tired enough to help through videocalls, but always supporting whatever crazy thing you are doing, knowing you will remember it forever !
Those temps are incredibly low, I know its a very thick rad but I can't believe it whilst cooling both the cpu and gpu whilst stress testing it keeps a 3090 at 54c, I have a custom loop for both gpu and cpu with a 280mm rad, 360mm rad and a 3080 with an active back plate as well as a full front plate and under stress testing with my noctua redux fans at 100% my 3080 sits at 56c and my coolant sits at 32c with an ambient temp of 22.6c. maybe I need to repaste with better compound?
I was thinking the same thing...I have a 360mm rad at 45mm thick and 280mm rad at 30mm thick running on a 9900k direct die cooled and 2080ti ftw3 and my temps are only slightly lower than theirs...Its crazy how good that thic boy 120mm alphacool rad works! I LOVE how instead of trying a whole bunch of different iterations, he just fired up Solidworks, CADed it up, and completed it in two design iterations.
those googly eyes everywhere in LMG kills me 😂 They're on chairs, tables, even material sometimes and especially on their tools. 😂 The ones at 5:10 on the Flex (probably not the correct translation for the machine but I honestly dont even know the correct term in my language either, so I stay at Flex 😂) are having a sugar shock. 🤭
The cooling bottleneck in most rigs is the interface between the cooler and the source of the heat and the sheer power/thermal density presented by small chips dissipating a lot of power. Napkin math tells us that as long as we're not overclocking, a 120mm rad will easily handle the ~500W power dissipation requirement here. Here's the "napkin math." 5800X3D CPU chiplet: ~120W @ ~80mm^2 5800X3D IO chiplet: ~20W @ ~125mm^2 3090: ~360W @ 630mm^2 Even if we don't count the IO die as spreading out some of the thermal dissipation, basically we're dealing with ~500W from over 700mm^2 of die area. The VEGA 64 LIQUID used a 120mm radiator and ran cool and quiet even when dissipating 350-400W+ from a die of ~460mm^2. On the bench, the "load" presented by this custom system isn't much different than a VEGA 64 Liquid. In the restrictive case it's a bit worse but still, not out of the range. Huge radiators are useful when trying to get the return-liquid temp down to near-room-temp for overclocking, or for running very low fan speeds for silent operation, but they are not required.
I loved the way this was filmed and directed. It felt like a Myth Busters episode with all the pre-planning, pre testing, and build montage. Can we put a 3090, current gen mobo and parts into this late 90s case? Yes! Myth Confirmed! lol

From the planning, the cutting, the high quality parts, and most importantly the testing. It's so Similar!
And what’s really impressive isn’t simply the ability to get it done at all, but the ability to get it right more or less the first time and to a deadline.
Amazing project, thanks, guys! One little suggestion: How about some very open (air flow) custom mesh for the drive openings? You could have these match the original color at your local paint shop. So, no visible holes anymore and even more car-look ;)
It's unlisted in the build logs playlist before its public. Neat.
Lol
What
nice
Wow
Lmao
this video turned out incredible and was so much fun to watch, even though I know it was a cluster on the back end - class act LMG team coming in clutch still
LTT's engineering expertise on modding computers are second to none.
I'm sure they're second to many actually, your standards are low

probably the best sleeper pc and gaming pc of all time
Seeing how much trouble they went through (LMG show), the wideo came out perfectly with the ShankMods feel. Love it❤️
Been absolutely in-LOVE with the custom PC builds that's been happening on this channel recently!! Would love to see more!
James is actually a great host, I'd love to see him more on the main channel again but in a serious setting like this.
So saying Linus sucks?
@@nickcollins1528 No, but simply noticing that the channel already is pretty diversified when it comes to hosts, so why not give James some more of the spotlight?
@@71bw he had more spotlight before and it was great but I think he is now in charge of another ltt channel so we dont see him as often.
@@MasterJack2 he has responsibility for ensuring the planned videos happen and juggling them along with working with Riley on techlinked. Effectively he is the linus wrangler trying to fit linus in the production schedule during his chaotic day. They did a day in the life type video about 6 months ago, which shows how hard everyone works there.
I hate james' voice and cadence..
So fu. He's the worst host.
Plus he's a champagne socialist
remove the coolers and put wheels on the pc, now, when you boot it, it will be Hot Wheels
you should watch shank’s video
Know what would be an Extreme PC case? 8:41 that pink car.
Love the video! Great job!
You can really feel how much less "editor attention" this video in particular has received in comparison to other LTT videos.
Feels like the good old days and it's nice
Probably because most of em are sick
@@Ansh77K Felt like a Channel Super Fun video for a majority of it.
The format, music, the "Holly sh$t dawg" reaction, the unavailing of the computer ... it all reminded me of "Pimp my ride" style of show format. Almost as if it was done on purpose. Really distracted me from the content.
@@MrBaller4Life14 unrefined content is good in doses but there's a reason why over the top reactions work, it helps retain audience attention and create anticipation and excitement to see the final product.

Loving the retro work you've been making content on recently, would love to see more!
That is actually INSANE and i LOVE LOVE LOOOVE the paintjob they did for the whole build IGN10/10
That pc is gonna sound like 3090 hot wheels cars driving at full speed xD
Ya'll need to find a way to bring Shank Mods onto the team. Dude is fantastic.
I still want him to have his creativity and soldering experience though. LMG is good but these creative ideas I want to keep seeing.
I love how they surprised not just Linus but also us the viewers with that monitor
The esthetic of this is amazing. Definitely one of the coolest builds this channel has done in quite a while in my opinion.
Always love seeing James on the main channel! Great Collab with ShankMods too. Some retro Hot Wheels cars would have really pulled it all together lol
I think Shank would fit great into LMG, I'd love to see his videos with higher budget

What a machine, I did not expect this would have everything internal but it happened. I love how this little thing has better temps and noise levels than my mid tower PC with a 3080 and 3900x.
The machine work at LTT has gotten soo much better over the years. that back plate was both clean and much more accurate. Loving the direction of the custom builds
This excitement and reaction of linus shows that he is actually a real gamer and a great lovely PERSON LOVE YOU LINUS ❤️😍😍😍
now fit a 4090 in it
build a pc into a keyboard.
Raspberry pi
2:26 L.G. Sebastian could mean his very own screwdriver is NOT YET in the market. It would still make a good Christmas gift for tool users who are LTT subscribers.
This could have, and should have, been a two hour build video. This is the kind of stuff I want to see more of.
Tynan looks like a big brother version of Linus, taller, more buff and does the heavier work
Now put a 4090 in it
Is that even possible?
there's a program floating around that you can force the curve optimizer function on x3D ryzen, makes my X3D run from 4.3 @ 90c to 4.45ghz @ high 70s c
cause it's boosting higher because of lower temps (I got an 280mm Arctic Freezer II) and it uses about 20 or so less watts
This right here… literally my dream job. Nice pc guys!
Petricor's S4MAX is the most impressive SFF build I have ever seen in terms of packing crazy hardware into an impossibly small space.
But this is an incredibly impressive build, and the retro chic is on a whole other level.
you should have cut the "nubbin" off instead of removing the rear shield on the motherboard, less chance of it shorting and it would help dissipate heat.
depending on what p95 test you ran you wouldn't be "daily driving" that temp.
This is the type of pc you would see selling as a prebuilt on amazon.
6:06 "reinvent the wheel..." get it? because it is a hot wheel?
*heeeeyyyy got'em!*
turned out great ! linus is the rich grandpa that is invested but tired enough to help through videocalls, but always supporting whatever crazy thing you are doing, knowing you will remember it forever !
At least he didn't auction off shank's controller for charity
This guy is like young Linus, but he actually looks decent on camera.
Didn't know Alex Turner was into advanced PC modding
I love seeing this guy grow. I feel like videos like this were originally out of his comfort zone but man he could be huge one day if he wanted to
Those temps are incredibly low, I know its a very thick rad but I can't believe it whilst cooling both the cpu and gpu whilst stress testing it keeps a 3090 at 54c, I have a custom loop for both gpu and cpu with a 280mm rad, 360mm rad and a 3080 with an active back plate as well as a full front plate and under stress testing with my noctua redux fans at 100% my 3080 sits at 56c and my coolant sits at 32c with an ambient temp of 22.6c.
maybe I need to repaste with better compound?
I was thinking the same thing...I have a 360mm rad at 45mm thick and 280mm rad at 30mm thick running on a 9900k direct die cooled and 2080ti ftw3 and my temps are only slightly lower than theirs...Its crazy how good that thic boy 120mm alphacool rad works! That workshop they are in must be at like 15c ambient! lol
@@brucepreston3927 It's not just the rad doing the work; those iPPC fans push *a lot* of air at full tilt.
@@Emerald_Night thats true but alphacool rads have a lower fin density than most other rads and they have diminishing returns after a certain point...I have the same style alphacool rads in my build

This is one of the best Ltt crossovers hands down thanks for bringing shank mods on with yall 😌
Without Wan Show telling us, I wouldn't have known that this wasn't all done on purpose. The team available did a great job.
I love videos like this. I watched Shank Mods original video and had to see them do this build. It really does suck that every one had covid and couldnt be there to witness this greatness.
I LOVE how instead of trying a whole bunch of different iterations, he just fired up Solidworks, CADed it up, and completed it in two design iterations.
those googly eyes everywhere in LMG kills me 😂 They're on chairs, tables, even material sometimes and especially on their tools. 😂
The ones at 5:10 on the Flex (probably not the correct translation for the machine but I honestly dont even know the correct term in my language either, so I stay at Flex 😂) are having a sugar shock. 🤭
When it was just the desktop itself, this one felt somewhat ridiculous. But at the end, with all the 'matching' peripherals, this looks sick as hell.
Here's the "napkin math."
5800X3D CPU chiplet: ~120W @ ~80mm^2
5800X3D IO chiplet: ~20W @ ~125mm^2
3090: ~360W @ 630mm^2
Even if we don't count the IO die as spreading out some of the thermal dissipation, basically we're dealing with ~500W from over 700mm^2 of die area.
I have to say this is probably one of the more interesting mods recently. Basically a Pimp my Ride but LTT style. Well done!
I loved the way this was filmed and directed. It felt like a Myth Busters episode with all the pre-planning, pre testing, and build montage.
Can we put a 3090, current gen mobo and parts into this late 90s case? Yes! Myth Confirmed! lol
This was incredible, I definitely want one. Instead of modding the original, I might have made a new interior box with some angle aluminum and your crazy-cool tools. Still, frikkin awesome. Absolutely nothing like it.
