I tried to fell a dying Maple...but before I could set my wedges, and release the back cut, the maple began to pop and crack! Could the trunk be so rotten that it's already starting to let go? If so, then it would likely come straight down onto the cabin.

I think i mentioned about leaving trees too close to the cabin when you were starting build. Never leave them close and you should concide felling more.

After following for years, I finally realized why your narrative style seems so comfortably familiar. You, sir, are the Mr Rogers of the Wilderness. No annoying music, no flashy gimmicks, just a guy doing a job and explaining what he is doing in a mellow voice that can capture our attention without shouting.

How I would love to live in a little cabin in the woods! At 68 I still split and stack all the firewood I use for heat all winter. To be in the woods and watch the wildlife and sit by a warm fire must be a little slice of heaven.

Mr. Outsider, I, as I'm sure most of us here do, have so much respect and awe at your ability, analysis, and craftsmanship. Watching you solve, master, and create is pure heaven to those of us who revere the craft! Learning from you about how to triangulate the distance needed to fell a tree left me gobsmacked! When you were taking down the old maple tree and I heard the cracking, I was just as concerned as you. “Uh-oh” was loud in my head.
When expanding and building my first house we had several diseased trees to take down.
After my dad readied one for a fall, it started make the cracking sound, plus the wind caught it. Luckily we had ropes guiding it’s fall. My neighbors were concerned until they were all down. My dad cut up the very larger diameter wood and took it home with him. I cut up all the smaller diameter wood for the next six months. We had wood for several years for our fire pit to cook meat. We are in a much warmer climate so we did not need wood to keep warm.

I knew from the moment the video started that you would drop that maple exactly where you wanted to. You are, after all, a professional. Well done, my friend!! Also, I anticipate your deck design hinted at before the video's end and the plans you may have for that beautiful maple wood. A hutch, perhaps for Mrs. Outsider or a "treasure box" for your beautiful daughter to store wonderful memories in? I can only guess, but I know you will give that beautiful old tree a new life some day! God Bless you and your family and a hello prayer to Dad in Heaven. 😀😇🥰

Thumbs up specifically for taking care of yourself. Hard hat, ear protection, the kevlar leg & body chaps, taking breaks to warm up and to think, and also the hot chocolate. (Gotta warm the heart & soul as well as the body & mind!)

As I watched you disassemble the pop up I thought about the bunk house tool shed and the snowmobile tow behind cabin. I have been watching since you placed the first stone. Those memories made me think of your dad. I am sure you do when you look at every board and nail. We are {were} the same age; I am now 73. My own son has an 80 year old cabin in the Allegheny mountains in Penna. When I am down there with him working on projects on the cabin I think of you two. Sigh

Nice job on that tree! Your snow cat seems to be running very well! No doubt there were some special memories in the walls of that pop-up cabin. Nice to see a glimpse of Senior Outsider.

It would be interesting to see the ages of people who watch your channel and others, who now live vicariously thru these channels. Your attention to detail is inspiring. I'm sure your Dad is bragging you up - up yonder! Us old useless eaters can get inspired watching you. Think I'll try and get up out of this chair and get a glass of orange juice. 2 minutes to get up, 3 to get to the fridge and probably a nap on the way! 🙂

Love your episodes! Hope you continue to do them as they are very genuine & engaging. Even though you have finished your amazing & beautiful cabin, I’m sure you can continue your series with updates on your family & adding interesting additions of your time in the woods & living in your cabin. Maybe you will consider in the future to add a porch or deck to the entrance of your one of a kind cabin.
Wishing you & your family many blessings.

Going to South Carolina to visit my late aunt when I was young. Her house was an old rickety on stilts. She had an old wood stove. A pecan, peach, and apple tree in her yard. Thanks for envoking great memories. I can smell the pecan wood burning. You've got a new sub

It was lovely to see you again. Good job on felling the maple tree, precision at its best although it was a bit scary with the popping. Seeing you dismantle the pop-up cabin was very moving especially seeing your Dad again. Take care, be safe. ❤ Dorset, UK

Hello Outsider again! It's definitely not your first tree felling video!! Great pointers of the professional kind. As someone else stated, your videos are calming with no hype or horrible music! Touching to see your father again. In your case I believe you were mentors to each other. Actually I will include your grandfather also. The respect you had for him shows also. As always God bless to you and your family. Take care from your very long-time California subscriber 🙏 🤲

So enjoy your videos and updates. The downing of that maple was just perfect - but I am sure, nerve-racking! You must have felt that the taking down of the outpost was another milestone without your dad and you will have had mixed feelings I'm sure but the optimism of the maple syrup season and then the new building season kicks in and you have us with you in expectation as mush as retrospection. Well done on continuing the work of living and working at the cabin and bringing us with you. The cabin still looks beautiful as you enjoy your domestic routines. Every blessing for you and the family.
