I know Delvin personally and trust me he’s one of the hardest working men that I know, yet he’s always so positive and full of energy. Unlike most fishermen he’s always down to teach the younger generation like myself about commercial fishing and how to do things properly.
What he said in the end is so true beyond words. Being born and raised as an Islander in the west pacific, my father would take me and my brothers out to the reefs to fish every other weekend. The crystal-clear blue waters, the breeze blowing on your face, swimming and seeing all the colors of the reef and creatures below breathes life into your soul that makes you feel alive, not living, ALIVE.
- 5:48 Unfortunately at a well known store in the USA, as well as the store "The meat king" has sold warm water lobsters/crayfish & I've seen the black apot on several in my passed. I had no idea why.
I like this feller, fishes/traps by the rules to keep it sustainable, I'm 60 yr old from Kentucky, hunting & fishing since I was 9 yr old, no poaching, throw a fish back if it is a 1/2 inch shy of being legal, that is the way it is.
Very impressed by both the fishmen AND the Bermuda government practicing sustainable fishing. It's good for everybody. If this happened in china, those lobsters would've LONG been extinguished already AND gone extinct.
Catching these lobsters in the Keys is a blast. Snorkel equipment, fins, tickle stick and a net and you only have to go a short distance. You can catch right off of docks but that is illegal.
About 40 years ago I was stationed by the US navy at Kings Bay Ga and found that I loved shrimp. Mainly spicy boiled shrimp. After 15 years I began to have allergy problems. Breaking out around my eyes and itching. Our family doctor did test and it turned out that I was allergic to shell fish - "Shrimp". I told the doc that sucked as I had 5 lbs of shrimp in the freezer and that I would have to suffer a few times each year. What is really weird is that I can eat shrimp 5-6 times and have no problems. Then that one time, bang. I'm down for a couple days. PJ
It's funny, when you look it up people will say it's good but not as tasty as Maine lobster, but I've have had them side by side and agree that the spiney lobster is a bit better. It's still lobster though, so we're kind of splitting hairs lol.
@@infin1ty850 Haha 😂 good response lol gave me a chuckle. I would guess 99% of palates who've had both would disagree with you. Spiny lobster is good for sure but I'm quite certain we know who's wrong here😉
I've had both Maine lobster imported to uk.. European lobster (blue and white) And European spiny lobster.. all in 1 sitting.. The sweetest is European lobster. Blue. The Maine one is little less sweet more firm. European spiny is similar to caribbean spiny lobster
2:10 Just break the whip? you mean it's antennae, you know the thing it uses to taste smell and touch to be able to navigate the world around it, this is akin to a catch and release fisherman poking a fishes eye out! there are better ways like cutting a small notch on its tail fin.
@@jtorola Ok ignoring your... well ignorance about animals and nervous systems, you are totally missing the point, they use their antennae to do everything! that means with only one they are worse at escaping predators, finding shelter, finding mates, etc and most importantly they are worse at finding food meaning they grow slower and not to mention instead of getting bigger in their next molt they need to use that energy to regrow a new antennae. To summarize you get smaller and slower growing lobsters, does that seem efficient to you?
I was enjoying this video but didn’t finish because of the double 15 second unskippable ads every 60-120 seconds. Cmon, Eater, I want to watch your content!!
Fishing is fun. I've been crabbing on the bridge. Never been on a boat to do it though. The ocean is scary. And these two men knows how to swim. A lot of black people can't swim.
I have always wondered about Lobster row. Do we just not eat it because of sustainability? I know all over the world it seems that responsible fishers put back the ladies with the eggs. Just curious if the row is used in places and what it is like?
By the time a spiny lobsters is of legal size, they’re between the ages of 7 to 10 years old and have spawned plenty of times. Also their main time to spawn is from March to August when the season is closed. They also produce hundreds of baby lobsters about half the size of a grain of rice.
i ate a lot of Spiny Lobsters in the Virgin Islands.. Northern Lobster taste better to me. but at the end of the day Lobster is Lobster, im more of a Crab guy
Everything looks so delicious, qualitative and soooo fresh. Why do they have to drown the lobster meat into butter, overcook the meat and ADD CHEESE (HELP !!!) ... Why not just respect the product and also the hard work of the fisherman ... I don't understand.
Once, as a young chef, I ordered about 50 spiny lobsters for my New Year's Eve surf 'n' turf. I didn't realize what they were, and was forced to clean them without decent gloves (I had no time to go buy gloves). My hands were painful by the end, to say the least. It was a lesson hard learned... They are delicious, though.
The Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Program limits the public recreational lobster liscencing, to gift the bounty of public ocean to private "stakeholders". They don't allow you to catch and eat your own lobster. You have to buy it back . In my day, there were no limits on public recreational lobster liscencing in Bermuda. I felt so relaxed watching this guys ''lobstering''. It's not a easy life, but a great one for sure. Made me dreaming.

The spiny lobster is a rare one, explains why it is costly. We appreciate the amount of infromative content we get on this channel.
definitely not rare, you can usually limit out in a few hours anywhere from the miami to bermuda to the bahamas and south throughout the caribbean
Rare? Those things are everywhere like cockroaches😂
I fish for them here in Southern California, except ours are orange.
I love the little touches of sustainability and regard for marine species that go into this.
So so proud to have Delvin represent for Bermuda! 🇧🇲🇧🇲🇧🇲🇧🇲

A guy named Anthony Gomez, who is seemingly from South Asia, speaking perfect English and cooking in Bermuda. Bet he’s got a few stories to tell!
Why is the quality of his English surprising or unusual lmao
He's probably from Goa/Mumbai (based on the accent), which makes sense. There is a huge Catholic population from the Portugese colonization.
guy named Gomez rocking that indian accent love it
Ah i thought he's Mexican
But the accent kinda off kekw
Never knew there's asian named Gomez
Spiny lobsters are fine, but cold-water lobsters are GREAT.
This should be the pitch for next seasons the deadliest catch. Take people with extreme shellfish allergies and have them go out and catch lobsters.

Breaking the antenna cripples the lobster, inhibits their ability to hunt and makes them succeptible to a host of diseases.
Cruel practice.
