Great to hear someone describe the crunch with the same kind of admiration I have for it. One's been on my belt for most of a decade now and I continue to think it's the most versatile object I own besides a smartphone
I think this is one of the most underrated multi-tools that provides unique features in addition to everything else. I know one person who uses crunch (slightly modified) and a small condor shovel (with a saw on the blade) for all bushcraft purposes.
I always thought the crunch was more of a gimmick than a real functioning tool. After watching your video and some others by tx tool crib I decided to buy one a while ago and I just love it. The size is just perfect. The way you deploy it is really eazy. Love what you did with that file and saw. The little screwdriver that comes with the bitset actually fits right inside that groove in the plier head. Good idea to use the file and saw like that!
If the original had such loop, Leatherman could then remove the redundant lanyard ring from inside. Then, instead of the middle size flat driver and phillips they could have put in a bit adapter from wave. With so much space saved, this tool could actualy get a real sccissors, an awl or plain edge blade. I think this would bring the crunch closer to perfection.
I agree the serrated blade is most valued and used by me~I always use it for package opening and cutting all cordage~Besides working best it saves the edge of the main blade~
Love the Crunch. One of my favorites. You can also pop the tool open while using as a driver and make it like a pistol grip for a ton more torque. I have a crunch video on my small little channel that shows it in action. Especially nice for socket adapter which I also did. Nice trick on the saw/file notch to limit the side to side movement. 👍
@@endofd-d7c - If you remove the screw at the bottom, all of the way (the jaw adjustment screw) it unveils a 1/4” hex socket. You can then use a 1/4” hex to socket adapter or a hex extension, etcetera.
This is the only tool I carry on my motorcycle. The locking pliers alone are worth it. A cigar tube carries a bit extender with ¼" adapter, 10mm socket, and a few driver bits. Brilliant.
Excellent video. Thanks. I guess the main reason why serrated blades are getting 'trash-talked' is that it is much harder and labour intensive to resharpen a serrated blade.
Plus one for the style ps and I like what you did with the saw and file. My preference is the manager over the mini champ. I think the mini champ has redundant tools whereas the manager is smaller, can do pretty much everything the mini champ can and also has a pen. The mini champ has an orange peeler/box opener and an extra blade, you can use the single blade on the manager to do most of what you would do with those. The mini champ has a medical scoop, who needs that? You have the blade or the file if you want some sort of scoop tool. The mini champ also has separate file and ruler/flathead, the manager loses the ruler but combines the file and flathead. The pen means you lose either the tweezers or the toothpick, but you choose. I can see the champ could be right for some but for me the manager is such a massively feature packed tool for its size. I’d go so far as to say it’s my favourite out of all my tools as it goes everywhere with me and I just forget about it until I need it. Highly recommended.
Wow, it sounds like me talking to me. I agree 100 on what your saying about the manager. The manager and Style PS would be my top Multitool recommendations.
I just ran across your channel, (was suggested during a lm search) and love it. I've had my crunch for over 20 years,, it's been around the world, and has never let me down. It's still holding up strong, maybe just a little duller, lol. Anyway, I will check out your other vids. Keep up the great work!
Enjoyed this video, thanks. Another hack is to pull tension screw back a small amount, insert either the Leatherman Bit Extender or the Ratcheting Bit Extender it on the small slot on side. And tighten the screw to hold it secure. You can now have a t-handle style screw driver.
thanks for this video! It’s also no hardship or burden to carry a couple of leather awl bits for dealing with blowouts that sometimes happen when you’re up in the woods. It’s not a small thing to be able to repair a damaged boot, to keep feet warm, dry and safe when home is nowhere near, and won’t be for some time. Those could be pinched right in that groove in the vice grip jaws.
i have a suggestion, instead of carrying around that small 4mm bit driver, you can instead get an adapter that steps down a 1/4 hex bit to a 4mm hex bit... then you can reduce the weight of your whole edc and also you've gotta look into getting a 4 inch knipex to replace your current adjustable wrench, much smaller and way stronger
Hi Jose from Puerto Rico. I found your channel by chance and really enjoyed your review. I subscribed. I've had my Crunch for many years; in fact I can't remember if I got it from Leatherman or some retailer. The bottom line is that it has worked without a hiccup all these years. That locking mechanism is worth the price alone. It's not a tool I use everyday, but It's always near by in my glove compartment. I've been wanting to get one of these for too long. I saw a scalple replacement for the bottle opener. My Kershaw caribiner knife bottle opener fell off but I can still open bottles by prying open five sides of a bottle cap with the sheep shank blade tip (same tip as the crunch).
