Hey Phil. I think you should compare the arms themselves on the MT10 and MT8. I believe that if they're basically the same except for size, that might explain why they keep breaking. Because I would imagine that the MT8 is heavier than the MT10. That extra weight translate to even moore force being applied to the arms during impact which would explain why the snap so easily. The stretching could have reduced the structure rigidity.

The Kaiju had the same problem with tie rods breaking to easy. Redcat addressed this problem with replacement tie rods with stronger metal which seem to be holding up much better.
I think the biggest surprise was the metal tie rod snapping, besides that it was pretty par for the course. I think I like the Mt10 a little better though.
MT10 - just throwing my hat in the ring on the off-chance I manage to get lucky! I did watch the whole video :) Speaking of which --- I think videos like this one illustrate how subjective our expectations of "durability" can be. At what point do we say that an R/C car is "durable" enough for 90% of use cases and daily driving? I love a good skatepark bash video, but I can imagine that many people who might buy this truck would never drive it under such circumstances. That being said, you were more than fair in your test. I'm a recent subscriber but have become hooked so far! Looking forward to more reviews.
i love my MT10 I actually bought mine because of you recommending it, after I watched your 3 videos on it I decided I had to get one, and I love it. and even though the MT 8 has weak arms and weak camber links, I still want to get one, especially since the parts are actually interchangeable with the kaiju I believe. and with aftermarket kaiju arms and camber links, this thing would be a beast again, great video as always. keep up the good work.
I also bought my MT10 after Heavy Metal RC and Tomley gave it stellar reviews. Then of course I had to follow suit and get the MT8. So far I have beat the snot out of the MT8 after I changed diff oil to reduce tire ballooning significantly and added bump stops to the rearshock rods and haven't been able to break it. Highly recommend! I bought the Lunsford LNS1450 turnbuckles in case the original ones broke but haven't needed them yet. I've stuck to 4s because most guys have pointed out it's complete madness on 6s. It still does killer wheelies on 4s. RC Driver Online has done a few videos with it as well.
@@lukebaines7785 500k center and both front and rear did 50k. Huge difference. You could go up to 1mil in the center to keep the power more split 50/50. Sledge is a lot more powerful than the MT8 so that 1mil in center might be ideal. I don't have one personally so I can't say for sure.
@@FeralRCThanks, appreciate the advice. Stock is 20 million in the centre (!) and 50k front/rear. Thinking I need to drop to at least 500k in the centre, possibly even 100k like Arrma as I like how their cars handle. Or will I get weird side effects if I drop that low?
MT10! Just picked up a used MT8 on FB Marketplace...was an insane deal and the truck is in pristine condition. I was actually looking for the MT10 and when I saw the other listing pop up for the MT8 it was just way too good to pass up on. Even came with an upgraded servo installed and a second set of bead-lock wheels/tires! Just ordered a 4s since I only have 3 cells currently, but really excited to get this out for a rip. All the issues you encountered in this video worry me though so I'm not going to go too hard on it. Hoping we see some RPM after market support in the near future. Cheers!
Doesn’t seems to be as tough as the MT10, but if RPM makes some arms for it, it will be a great truck. Nice testing, I think you gave it just enough 😃👍
Redcat kaiju parts are direct fit and drastically improved the mt8 durability. Swap out lower arms, f&r hubs+ front hub carries and that car is an absolute beast. Once I did those swaps, and swapped out for arrma turnbuckles, the mt8 is the most reliable car I have.
Nah, it all depends on how you bash it. However, it never hurts to replace the arms and turnbuckles with the good stuff (kaiju arms and titanium TBs) before bashing (what I did).
HardcoreRC I see what you mean about this one. I’m with you on this. I wrote a comment saying how much it looks like another truck that I bought. Maverick Quantum+ XT Flux 3s 1/10 Stadium Truck this thing is 💩.

In looking at recent photos it looks like Redcat - re-engineered the Dukono which means it is not as much like the MT10 as it used to be. MT10 Oh man I'd love to win this one! Great looking truck! Good luck to everyone. Cheers! I painted my first RC body this week... had some issues lol. It came out alright ish but my window masks came loose during mid paint session so I had to slap on the supplied window decals to hide it. Shame cause the idea was to have black tinted windows.
I recently got a Kaiju EXT from Redcat. Like the MT8, its got a Hobbywing 150A esc with Deans. I melted a connector on one of my good 2S packs. As of writing this comment, I put on EC5s. If anything else happens connection-wise, it'll be on me due to my bad soldering skills
MT10 - For my own personal use case, I prefer that over the MT8. Large enough to bash, do some speed runs and over all have loads of fun while breaking less. Thank you for the reviews mate! I may yet be converted from the Traxxas dark side! Cheers!
MT 10 - good video as ever. Agree with yr previous view that small car like hbx 16889 makes ideal skate park basher unless you like wrenching and paying to fix bigger cars. I tend to take my ftx tracer or flyhal 600 (cousins to the hbx) as backups to my bigger cars and the small ones always survive the skate park trip.
Was interested for this one after your review of the MT10 but it seems the MT8 is a bit too large for the strength of the components. I will go for the MT10 now. Thanks for your reviews of the MT10 and the MT8 👍👍
Team associate is one my favorite rc vehicle. I had a buggy when I was a kid and it would be awesome to have one now. That was a good bash session. Keep up the good content. As long as you are having fun with bashing or drifting or racing any rc car can be great. Sweet truck.
MT10 - yeah, think I'll wait on the MT8 until RPM makes some A-arms. Thanks for putting it through its paces and being honest. The Redcats also tend to have weak A-arms.
MT10. Also fairly new to the hobby, I got a Big Rock, a SCX24 and a WLT 144001, not only but also because of your reviews. I really appreciate your content. Greetings from Berlin.
I love your videos. The zip-tie trick is genius, learning lots as I'm just entering the hobby. Regarding the breaking arms, I'm guessing it's the size. The thing with size and the physics of volumetric increase with the scale while the parts didn't get beefed up enough. Love the suspension on this one.

Mt10 Great review, honest and accurate. 10th scale suits me more as I feel they're more transportable when you've got to take the kids/dog along too. Cheers.
MT10 - I think this was a fair review. It’s marketed as a heavy duty basher so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect it to survive a relatively tame skate park session without crapping itself every five minutes. 🤷🏽♂️ Looking forward to the next update on your FF03 project. 👍
It seems to have a lot of potential from all the kids I have seen. It needs some tuning like diffs and shock oil it's over damped which probably doesn't help with the arms breaking, hopefully RPM will be on it though. Maybe with some upgrades and tuning, it might be on par with the MT10 🤞
MT10 - enjoying the channel. Keep up the good work. The trouble with 1/8 scale is they are so Big and so Fast you need a big space to run them. I’ll stick to the 1/10 trucks.
MT10. Love my 10 scale Granite. Seems like I can't kill it other than drive shafts randomly blowing out. Granted they are plastic but cheap and easy to replace.
The MT10 does look fab .... Love it for my little girl so she can come bashing with me... LoL. Definitely agree with you with staying clear of the 6S... I think it's a bit wicked on 6S. 4S is plenty fun...thanks for sharing bud.😉
RPM make arms for these now but the issue I've also had is the 3.5mm hinge pins bend easy, best and strongest way is simply to fit arrma mojave rear arms on the front and rear of this truck and also use the mojave hinge pins just drill the existing holes to 4mm from the stock 3.5mm the arm has a little slop but a 4mm shim in-between the hinge pin blocks and that issue is sorted also on the front it needs gentle touch with a die grinder to clear the c hubs but its minimal amount of material to remove. next issue i had was the rear upper tie rod the plastic is stronger then the metal which is hilarious in of its self i used 47mm x 4.5mm titanium lunsford tie rods from DMS-Racing now all i kill is wheelie bars and front bumpers from bad landings.

MT10 is ace. I bought one for my wife and called it Homer. Not sure that the MT8 is on my shopping list yet though until like you say someone like RPM makes replacement arms etc for it, but it becomes a bit less of a good deal when you know you have to buy those parts first.
MT-10 Great Video as usual. Your videos got me back into the hobby with the 124017 and the EX10. I would like a 1:7/1:8 and can't decide between a basher or road car.
MT10 No doubt there will be a revised version soon Shame to see arms break so easily when the MT10 has made such a good name for itself as the best budget basher!
MT-10 I'm not a basher,, I cant bring myself to do it to te extent some do. 2 reasons, I don't want to be fixing it every time I take a car out and cost because I'm usually on a budget and I read things like it only cost me £40 this week to fix it I've done well. Those arms and other parts do seem a bit weak though. I would be happy with fixing it every 4rd or 5th run. Am I being to optimistic?
Really nice video. But i think the MT-10 or is it (MT10) is more durable and should be a good friend for my WL-Toys 12402-A. Or do you have any suggestion for another good priced, durable (the WLToys 12402-A is in my opinion) car.
MT10. Such a shame about the MT8. If they sort those plastics out with a better compount I think this could be a wicked truck. Also dump those deans connectors. Great video keep it up.
i cant BELIEVE you managed to kill that thing... its a beast! The deans, associated tends to use deans for all their cars, and their battery kits are hooked for that. Deans is fine at the voltage 4-6s is pulling. its not THAT many amps.
Another Good vid there Tomley mate, informative and fair review as always. your getting better with the the editing. Congrats on your success your on to a winner with your TH-cam channel. Happy Days!!😊
Mt10! Its a bummer but on the other hand Im glad I wasn't the only one with problems on it lol!!! But once Ive changed out most of the parts to my Kaiju parts its held up really well!
Hopping they will come out with a MT10 exb version. I do get that these cars are though for the scale but since bashing actually is a thing, it would be nice with something that was guatanteed or att least designed to actually survive bashing.

MT 10 What's the spares situation like. If they are cheap and plentiful that's a bonus, Saying that repairing after every bash might get a bit tiresome!
My wife has the Redcat Kaiju. And the arms, steering knuckles and turnbuckles are a weak spot but it's a beast. Yeah hopefully RPM will make some arms Also the MT10 is a smaller version of the Kaiju which is cool.
I’ve got some catching up to do with vehicles I was focused on a large ho train layout and scale smei trucks but it doesn’t make me happy, so I finished it and sold them now I’m really having fun with Kraton 6s and Dbxl e 2.0, I’ve got two more truck on the way 😅
I wonder how this would stack up against its sister truck the red cat Kaiju .. it would be super cool if you could get one and do a review on it and compare. The mt8 shares a lot of parts with this truck
Mt10. I have the same issues with the arms breakin on my pro 4. Love the truck but the broke arms are a bit ridiculous and on 3s the esc goes into limp mode way too often even with dual fans on it.
MT10. Tough market to get in to, can't believe that the arms are so brittle but then the 8S Arrma stuff is the same. Wait and see how the aftermarket support and AE development gets on.

Hey Phil. I think you should compare the arms themselves on the MT10 and MT8. I believe that if they're basically the same except for size, that might explain why they keep breaking. MT10, Great review, you gotta push these cars to the limits that's what we want to see!!
I love my Arrma Big Rock but due to my issues with the slipper clutch, the MT10 was a very close second choice.
MT10
No doubt there will be a revised version soon
Shame to see arms break so easily when the MT10 has made such a good name for itself as the best budget basher!
Cool truck. Love this. Deffo consider for my first 1/8 truck. Got a 1/8 buggy at the moment but I think it needs a friend.
Looked like the wheel folded underneath it could be with the length of the shocks letting them top out drop more when in the air?
What changes would you make to the centre and front diff oil weights to stop it diffing out and ballooning?
MT10. Love your videos mate! Please keep up the good work!
I wish they'd make a MT5 with MT10 durability and 8s Arrma/XMaxx size. I need more large scale bashers in the collection.
Mt10 great vid and am in the market to replace my daughters firestorm… so a few good reviews to go off of late! Thanks for the content!
Great review as always. I have the MT-10 which is well built, gonna save up for the MT-08 as like the larger size. Keep the videos coming.
MT10 - Good review, keep em coming
MT10 - Awesome truck. Loving the videos keep it up!
MT 10, MT 8, MT ANYTHING. LOL. Love your vids tom. New to the hobby have been binging your videos.
MT10 will be my upgrade from my first RC the HBX 16889 pro, which I bought after finding your vids 👍
I bet it would run pretty good and trick well on 6's but with a set of belted tires on it. Or the tires from that skeeter
Really nice video. But i think the MT-10 or is it (MT10) is more durable and should be a good friend for my WL-Toys 12402-A. Or do you have any suggestion for another good priced, durable (the WLToys 12402-A is in my opinion) car.
MT-10 Almost bought the MT-10 instead of the Arrma Vorteks I ended up with, still looking at the MT-10 to add to my old tc3 sitting on the shelf.
That’s a mad truck. Hopefully they sort the arms . Great video . Made me chuckle 😂👍
What's up my brother in R/C great video as usual, the MT10 is pretty awesome!
MT10 toughest and strongest 1;10 truck, thanks for great vidio
MT-10 Yeah, I love it. You destroy cars so we don't have to. It is great to watch!
Hopping they will come out with a MT10 exb version. I do get that these cars are though for the scale but since bashing actually is a thing, it would be nice with something that was guatanteed or att least designed to actually survive bashing.
Me and my Dad love your vids Tomley it's kind of a tradition now every time you upload a vid were like oh yes a tomley vid, love the MT10 we've been interested in the car for a while now. And my car the ftx zorro is an exact replica of yours 👍
Try puting 10k oil in the centre diff with 7k in the front and 3 or 5k in the rear Phil. The MT-10 will hopefully be a bit better.
MT10
Brought my son a little FTX tracer at Christmas to get him into the hobby. After watching your videos he's now saving for an MT10👍
Yeah hopefully RPM will make some arms
Also the MT10 is a smaller version of the Kaiju which is cool.
MT10! Good review, thanks. Shame it's not nearly as durable as the MT10. Is it that much heavier?
I’ve got some catching up to do with vehicles I was focused on a large ho train layout and scale smei trucks but it doesn’t make me happy, so I finished it and sold them now I’m really having fun with Kraton 6s and Dbxl e 2.0, I’ve got two more truck on the way 😅
I wonder how this would stack up against its sister truck the red cat Kaiju .. it would be super cool if you could get one and do a review on it and compare. The mt8 shares a lot of parts with this truck
MT10 looks tougher than its big bro. Great vid
MT10 in hopes you haven't done the drawing yet. I just came across your channel. Good show!
MT10, great review on the MT8, glad I always wait to buy anything till its had the tomley test 😀 👍🏻
Mt10 would do! Great testing Talbot style:)
Mt10. I have the same issues with the arms breakin on my pro 4. Love the truck but the broke arms are a bit ridiculous and on 3s the esc goes into limp mode way too often even with dual fans on it.
Another great video.. looks like a lot of fun!
I would love to see RPM come out with arms for this! Great part is their arms would also fit the Kaiju then.
MT10.
Tough market to get in to, can't believe that the arms are so brittle but then the 8S Arrma stuff is the same. Wait and see how the aftermarket support and AE development gets on.
MT-10 thanks for the review
MT10 - Great video as always. MT10 > MT8 it seems.
