just bought me a Sea to Summit 1.1 set as I found a great deal on it and it has more stuff i like over the other one and its not really a deal breaker that i have to carry the fuel next to it instead of inside
Great review and comparison. I use the 24 oz Stanley Camp cook set, comes with 2 10 oz BPA free cups, a lid and removable handle. It sits upright with the handle attached! I can store an msr pocket rocket, pan scraper/brush and handle, plus it nests perfectly inside a GSI or similar 16 oz cup. Small fuel canisters fit perfectly but not with the pocket rocket or handle stowed. The GSI looks like a great option especially regarding weight.
Thanks for the review, I'll just bought this Sea to Summit Alpha kit for my christmas present. lol I plan to use and do a short review this weekend on this 1.1 Kit.
I liked the video. It does seem like you are a GSI fanboy out the gate. Full disclosure, I like the sea to summit. I did notice how the handle throws off the center gravity when empty. I guess I have it setting on the ground until I put it on the stove with food in or water. I don't really use the cup because I have my own I like to carry. The bowl I'm not a fan of either. Although I do like the graduation marks. I just don't like plastic. After watching your video I had to run a couple tests myself. While it's true, you can't put the bowl and the pocket rocket 2 in the pot while the stove is in its case. You can take the pocket rocket out of its case and fit it inside with fuel and have room for a mini Bic, small sponge w/scrub and store a package of oatmeal inside. That's using the small 4 oz canister. If you skip the plastic bowl you can do more. Anyway thanks again for the review.
Gsi Many years The pot is the focus Rock solid Quick heating Wicked strong Easy to clean Just the best Five plus years multiples of multiples of hundreds of burns Just buy it
in 30 years of camping and being in the military, i have never measured anything and had no problems due to it. Is this really a deal breaker? great review though.
Love my soloist. I think you stove should fit in the little bag where you had you spork. The spork should it in the depression in the base of you gas. Sorry if you know this already. In mine I get the orange cup/bowl, c100 gas, pinnacle 4 season stove in its pouch, GSI spork, some tea bags, Soto pocket lighter, GSI dishcloth. Good comparison video. Thanks for sharing.
I do like your delivery of reviews. You have a certain honesty about them that does not seem to be searching for corporate support. Keep on keeping on ... You seem to be a good educator, and this world needs more of those.
Im looking for something to replace my Serbian military surplus mess kit in my bugout bag. Im really liking the looks of the Sea to Summit kit, considering my cooking source is a Firebox and I dont have to worry about fuel
been using the GSI for a couple of years I really like this kit with the one liter volume for real cooking the inner bowl will nest a space saver cup so I have cook pot for food and a water kettle for drinks the cook pot leaves me with leftovers for heating in the morning for breakfast The inner bowl is good for eating I stuff the empty space with tea bags and coffee The outside water container fell apart the spork is unhygienic , a trap for dirt, impossible to clean recommended
IDK, I dont have the GSI soloist but I do have the dualist which I like a lot for 2 people because of the bowl configurations which also allows it to flex up to 4 in a pinch. I even use it solo a lot of I dont use my olicamp cup with a sea to summit collapsible X cup as a lid which fits perfectly. But that Sea to Summit is looking pretty cool to me because I really like the bowl and cup combo and I actually like the lower profile wider pot design on the sea to summit especially with a metal lid and that lid catch (pretty nifty). I use a micro stove in a protective bag so I know I could fit fuel and a stove in the pot especially if I removed the cup but maybe even with the cup depending on the canister size assuming the cup is somewhat flexible. I'm going to have to check one out closer thanks for the great review!
Great review! Could you do a review of the Sea to Summit X-pot systems? using different heat sources (MSR pocket rocket deluxe, firebox or fuel cube) Thanks
I️ picked up the GSI soloist several months ago at Dicks Sporting Goods for cheap. Got lucky!! It’s a great all in one kit. I️ always carry a dedicated coffee cup anyway....I️ like to drink from a decent sized mug at meals or for coffee. I️ also like to make oatmeal in my coffee mug and eat I️t while I️ hike if I️ can get going early.
Thanks for the review while you actually using the product👍🏽, compare to others who give their expert review with the stickers still on it, only lord knows they get their refunds after the reviews 😂
Dude you should look up syntax77. He records his backpacking trips and is awesome. I’ve found you through 2 different research/reference avenues. Should look him up.
GSI kettlist kit is my absolute favorite. There's not much that's different but the pot. But im in love. 5 years now.

Regarding the imbalance of Sea to Summit small pot, how about put the lid on?

Thank you for the look and comparison! Myself, I would have one in one pack and the other in another's pack, considering group size.
I have both of these and agree with your conclusion.

The GSI 'bowl' can also be separated so you get a bowl and a cup as well in virtually the same space.
I think most like a bowl and a cup so you can have oatmeal and a cup of coffee at the same time. But each his own
Workaround for the lack of measuring marks in the GSI pot, use the cup to measure and pour into the pot, problem solved. ;-)

I like the GSI because you can get your heating elements in the whole thing. Great review bro.

Thanks Aaron for the great VS video, Good day to you and congrats on the new edition to your family God Bless
Good review. I didn't know about the sea to summit. I have the dualist and have loved it but wanted something smaller. Perfect!
What brand is that orange tent?
Is it just be me or does the saturation go down like 2 seconds after every cut?
Just u
To be honest the StS pot is useless when it tips over due to a heavy handle.
i have had the soloist 2 years now, it stays in my gonna get away for a trip backpack. i dont drink coffee so, no biggie.
Great review. Well detailed. You the GOAT of reviews.
A Pag @A Pag Maybe I'm just too old, but I gotta ask ... what does GOAT mean/stand for?
