@@Greatmeasures It's an honest mistake. Iha actually joined during the tour of this album, so he was seen in the band playing these songs before he contributed to an album.
YEA BOI. Josh Freese is a killer drummer. He's actually kind of MVP for this track if you ask me. He really drives the rhythm and manages to almost make the drums feel as light and velvety as Maynard's vocals. XD
Judson's interpretation on the piano of Radiohead -Street Spirit (Fade out) was AWESOME!!! Haunting 👻!!! I could feel the Melancholy, the Pain and the Despair 💀!!! Although very brief, A TURE cathartic EXPERIENCE!!! AWESOME VIDEO DUDES!
Great song. Great reaction. You guys need to dabble in Puscifer as well. The diversity of Maynard in these 3 bands is remarkable. Especially in Puscifer, they range from rock, hip hop, blue grass(literally banjos on a song), industrial and comedy. And his vocals with Carina Round are absolutely incredible.
that crescendo eruption (about 8:20 into this vid but 3:30 in song) is one of my favourite moments in music ever. still remember the whole body goosebumps first time i heard it as a teen. i'm a fan of all maynard's work, but this album (and song in particular) was monumentally impactful for baby me. i didn't get the recovery angle as a kid, but was drowning in religious trauma, so interpreted the lyrics in that context. 'your halo slipping down to choke you now' felt directed at the abusive, hypocritical church leaders in my life. that's the powerful and personal part about art; how we can interpret our own meaning. so stoked to see your reaction to this song.
I’m with you. The crescendo never gets old. I can definitely see how the religious trauma would be relatable, especially in this song. That’s an interesting perspective to digest this song through.
Same. I had one of the happiest and most magical moments of my life to this tune. What an era this was. I feel like it was the last great 90's-early 00's style album that went emotional *full send*. Something changed in music and society after this period. We sort of fell far past that "peak of your civilization" moment Agent Smith so famously quipped about 21st century history in the Matrix. It's also rare for any album to be quite this raw, when both sending out loving/vulnerable vibes... and yet also raw and unvarnished when embodying the impulses of someone who is enslaved by something in life.
This album came out when I was in college and I was kind of obsessed with it. I didn't realize until years after how much The Cure influenced APC. It's clear as day in retrospect!
Yes, as a life long Tool enthusiast from the beginning I know that most of us loved APC when they came out. Having said that, as an SP/Iha and overall APC enthusiast, I still like the first APC album better than anything and it doesn't have Iha. I do like later APC albums, but nothing even comes close to Mer De Noms. Also, as a recovering addict (20+ years of active addiction and now 12+ years of being clean) I do absolutely love 13th Step. Just not as much as Mer...
@@Greatmeasures Thank you very much. I've been through a lot of crap in my life, but nothing as tough as staying clean. I don't care what anyone says, it's a daily battle and I think about getting high every day, but I weigh the pros and cons every time I think about it and luckily have made the right choice for a long while now. Lucky to have a loving support system now (wife and kids) which is something I rarely had before I met my wife. I was in NA for a long time and know the process and steps very well, but I stopped going because I can't even do the first step without lying to myself and my fellow addicts and so I stopped going altogether (not one to be a hypocrite), but I still talk to people in the groups when it gets really bad and my wife is not around. Sorry for letting it all out, but reminiscing about this album tends to bring it out...
So glad you guys started with this song from A Perfect Circle! One of my favorites too. I feel "3 libras" "The hollow" and "The Outsider" are solid choices that you'd probably like
My best friend bought this album for me while I was in a long-term program in a rehab. Needless to say it struck a chord. In the program (NA, AA, etc) the thirteenth step is dating and or having sex with other addicts in the program. I don't necessarily thing thats what Maynard was referring to though. Been clean since 2006 and still put this album on and reminisce. Honestly the time in that program was some of the best in my life to this day. Made good friends (and lost more) and had a really great job. Damn I miss those days and the people who unfortunately couldn't fight those demons.
I agree also. I love Tool. Have an Aenima eye tattoo and everything lol. But APC just DOES SOMETHING in the soul for me that no other music does. I think I’ve listened to Mer De Noms in its entirety more than any other album, ever. The live performance is my favorite one. Thirteenth Step usually comes right afterwards lol. I play bass and their songs are so much fun to play.
@@laceydez haha maybe there’s something there as I’m a bass player also. Yeah I feel emotionally APC just pulls me in more, such an amazing band. Hopefully we get a couple more albums from them 🤞
saw radiohead twice live......saw a perfect cirlce live also, same venue.....badass, i remember skateboarding around town for like 3 months straight everyday with this cd in the walkman lol
One of my absolute favourites. It perfectly describes the frustration of being the co-dependant who looks on when the addict sobers and is high on that new life for me. Painful and beautiful! (Oh and the first song on that album, The Package, is on point too)
I cannot tell, what attracts me the most to your videos, Judson's piano interpretations, your special interaction or just the great analysis of the various songs. Thanks, guys.
I'm really happy that I found the channel. Most reaction videos are dominated by overexcitement and often times feel like someone just read a wikipedia article about a band and maybe even the song they are listening "for the first time". With the two of you I don't have that feeling at all. I'm really impressed about some of the analysis of Judson. The tool recipe, that this might be a reason for the other project.... Cheers to the two of you!
Richard your interpretation was correct the story involves someone who died in a drunk driving accident, and now the driver is "sober" but the victim is gone.
this one has been following me for years on my top tier followed close by the package... amazing album, incredible memories... that radiohead intro also had a great touch down the memory lane =)
Radio head, A perfect circle and a pleasant, deep and personal conversation, Thank you. Personally "The noose" and "A stranger" for some reason these two songs give me a lot of peace.
J, your commentary is spot on for a lot of us Maynard fans. Tool hits the head, APC hits the heart (and Puscifer hits the dick 🤣) This song is one of my top favs from APC. My interpretation of it personally is extremely dark. My mom passed when I was 11 (she was a pianist, private voice/piano teacher and HS choir director) and my child self still deals with blaming myself for it though I didn’t know she was sick a for a time and couldn’t help more back then. The halo is a ring of guilt to me. The stranger off this album hits very close too. Mom’s been dead for 27 years and I’ve addictions for years as a result of poor coping. I haven’t ever been able to listen from an addict’s pov…time’s a coming. Thank you both.
Wonderful track. On the DVD, Maynard explains over commentary the meaning of many of the tracks. Which is something he rarely does. Such a great album, and for me very important as it came out when I was getting sober in rehab. Thanks for your work fellas. Oh yeah, please consider a reaction video for The Pet. It’s about the disease talking to the addict. Pure gold.
I thought it was a fascist-dictator/cult-leader talking to the exploited sheep being fleeced. ...Oh wait, that's the same way the drug of choice cons the addict. "Only I can save/fix you. All you need is me. Trust me."

As a TOOL fan myself i believe most of us like A Perfect Circle. It's not like we are just listening to TOOL all the time and A Perfect Circle is genuinely a good band! There is quality in almost all genres of Music imo and A Perfect Circle clears the quality-bar easy.
I really enjoyed the great measures of Radiohead from Judson in the intro. I agree with Richard, it’s also my favorite A Perfect Circle song. I also agree with Judson that A Perfect Circle is more engaging and listenable than Tool…although I love both. Thanks for the great content, really liked the conversation at the end.
I agree with all that’s being said here. How do you amend all the dead thought to me… To me that is all the people influenced or encouraged to get high or drunkened on the path of one’s own self destruction. The person has found a path to recovery, but there are a path of dead folks that was left along the way that never will. I never post on these things and am an alcoholic. Very grateful for these posts.
The live version of Orestes from the Stone and Echo show at Red Rocks always gets me and would be a great one for Judson to check out. Such a great song that was elevated even higher played live.
What an incredible song. I've always wondered if Maynard deliberately came in on that crescendo @3.33 "With Your Halo Slipping...." , as a nod, firstly to the Trinity, being the third minute of the song, and also 33 obviously representing the age Christ died. Considering he's a little curious, and angry, as to how his God is going to make amends to the dead. Maynard being Maynard, he must have known this.
We had our albums mixed up regarding James Iha. Please excuse the mistake.

I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan as well!
I love Tool but APC is my favorite of Maynards bands. It feels more emotional to me which I love in music.
I literally listened to this album not stop when i was kicking
Very nice rendition of Street Spirit
The live version of Orestes from the Stone and Echo show at Red Rocks always gets me and would be a great one for Judson to check out. Such a great song that was elevated even higher played live.
I'm glad to see that the channel is growing, you deserve a lot more subscribers.
This is a classic Perfect Circle Album... and was my immediate favorite song. I'm going to make a suggestion for a song, Hollow River, Puscifer.
Thoughts on ashes divide?
A phenomenonal song.
Masterful album, plain and simple! Also, anything you could do from their Stone and Echo Live performance at Red Rocks would be awesome!
That was a deep one boys! 💪🏼💪🏼
