Dude, I love Carl. I could talk to him all day. As a former park ranger myself, I definitely recognize the ways he put his story together. It was awesome
Sooooooo, you found my chairs. I never for the life of me, or my wife thought you would or anyone would. Long story short, in 2019 rolled my ankle on the way in for four day hike. Bad enough we left that and some other camping equipment there and hiked out the next morn and called it done. Four days turned into 30 hours, ankle surgery, six weeks off work, and its still mess ed up to this day. Full disclosure, we do not smoke weed (airline pilot and not one likes us on drugs). Those where not there when we left the chair, stove, tent, coffee pot and coffee. So other have been there since. Glad the chairs is there to this day. Was a fight to take it. I did not want to and the wife did. I had to carry it. When I rolled the ankle she did not want to take it out. Go figure. Either way, glad to see its still there and people are……..relaxing with it. PS, never saw any snakes or scorpions. Actually we never even saw much of anything alive. But what a place.
On 5/28/77 this Beech C-45G N6065V crashed after having suffered a complete failure of the number one engine while landing causing a forced off airport landing ending with a collision with a pole and wires. The C-45 was on a flight from Davis, California to Beatty, Nevada.
Have to admit, I am claustrophobic and so, whenever you go underground I get a little panicy. I know in my heart you make it out, but my fear mounts for you each time I watch. Please take care of yourself whenever you do go underground alone...your fellow WL Canadian..
Hey mate. I love how you not only find amazing destinations, but amazing characters. You have a gift for this. These stories are my favourite. Digging up these wonderful storytellers, who are part of the landscape/destination. Keep it up, I always look forward to your next video. You inspire me to get back out there myself. Cheers, Rob, Tasmania, Australia 🇦🇺
OMG you made my year. I was there in 87 and spent a week. At that time the hotel still had red velvet drapes hanging and tattered from the wind. You could hear the wind whine as it made its way thru the glassless window frames. I was parked by the old jail. And to visit the rail road stop there it was like stepping into another world. Thank you so much you brought back a lot of memories . you do need to see Cerro Gordo and Bodie thank you Dustin good job p.s. rattlesnakes like to wrap around the sagebrush underneath.
I stopped by and checked out only the wrecked airplane too. Here is the story of what happened. Rumor has it that Fran’s Star Ranch thought it would be a good idea to run a promotion to generate business for the brothel. They came up with the idea of having a parachute jumping contest. The rules were fairly simple, if you could jump out of the plane and land on a mattress that sat atop a large painted star located on the property, you could spend one full evening with a lady of your choice. The contest went to shit after the pilot of the Beechcraft C-45 became distracted by the girls standing outside, clipped a pole on the landing strip and crash landed where it still sits today.
Wow, sounds like you & Carl have things in common. It was great listening to him & how important it is for people to leave things where they are. Unfortunately there's too many people that just don't care about our history. I wish there were enough people and money to help preserve these places! Another awesome video! Thank you for your hard work. I'm sure it's not always easy finding people around who know the history of these places you go to. Can't wait to watch the next one!
Terrific interview with Karl, two thumbs up. Curious about the battery Burro, maybe do an update side video? Income tax season has me thinking about getting one.
There is a rebate/tax credit for e - bikes. I built my own on an existing bike I have.Don't bother with less than 1ooo watts and 48 volts. Mine does 43 mph and about 40- 50 miles range. And I'm upgrading... It ain't no Toy!
There are a lot of hot springs in Nevada. Must be some fumerals seeping through cracks into that mine, or else it would be regular ground temperature. Be careful in there. Some geothermal vents and hot springs emit a lot of Co2. Those pin heads are probably spun glass. Excellent video. Good interview too.
Great Video, editing, story, music all fantastic. Love the caretaker Carl Olsen, they don't get much more honest then that! Also loved that he stated things need to stay there! If taken, history will die away as well. Thank you for your adventure and documenting history along the way!
BATTERY BURRO!!! I LOVE IT! Beats E-Donk every day! Thanks for another sweet adventure... even if it meant descending to the magma beneath Earth's surface! FarmerMJ
Lets preserve "America's Rome". I agree with the man speaking. Very good conversation with Carl. Thank you for taking me here. I remember my visit there very well.
Haha wow that was a crazy cool chill pad complete with folding loveseat and pre rolled joints. Lmao. That can was an old Hills Bros coffee can. Great vid. Can't wait for the next one. 🍻
First, I love the intro, made me laugh pretty hard! Second, the interview with Karl and exploring the old town was really cool. I had no idea it existed. Desert explores are one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing and well done as always!
Wow what a wonderful life you lead Dustin!! I loved the ruins of America's 'Rome' and Karl was obviously passionate about the history of the place and he was right to say that everything (old cans etc) should be left in situ for everyone to see. Thanx for a great explore. Gill 🇬🇧
Great stuff! Loved all of it. Carl was a great storyteller who really drew us in. Your exploring and adventure were well told - and the humour was on point. Thank you for creating this and other videos - it is greatly appreciated! Keep smiling and safe adventures!
I absolutely love this channel. Stumble upon it and have to say I'm absolutely hooked. I love your Passion and the history that you teach with every exploration. Just truly awesome. Keep up the amazing work. Hope you someday can make it up to the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area out here on the East Coast. Lots of really cool explorations out here
Just so u know, ur vids r definitely enjoyable, and interesting, where as it's definitely appreciable when they r longer ones. So let's whip it, Justin. 👍
I’m 5 minutes in. Had to pause the video, this is one of the best things to watch on TH-cam right now. I was just sitting there in a trance. Wonderful. Correction: your channel is one of the best things on TH-cam.
Another great little documentary. The amount of effort and creativity required always wows me. Was thinking of work by Ken Burns while watching. You have a way of telling a story that pulls the viewer in. And speaking of pulling you in: what did we say about being pulled down the rabbit hole to portals for another dimension? They are even using comfy chairs and pot now! Caution young Skywalker!
Loved the interview with Carl. It's the history behind some of your video locations that just suck me right in. And your intro just about had me choking on strawberry lemonade in hysterical laughter. LOVED IT!
Very well done edition this week, thanks for all the work you put into these. My fat tire ebike got here last week and I'm set to hit the road in March in my 20 ft. RV, start making my own adventures.
TH-cam won't let me "Like" this video. Way to go bro! Absolutely love your channel. My family owned an RV dealership in Kitchener Ontario, call Campers World. I always wanted to do what you are doing . Keep truckin' bro!
Lot's of geothermal in that area, used to be a geothermal research facility outside of Jean back in the early 1980's. Another great video of my old stomping grounds from the late 70's early 80's...
Rhyolite is less than four hours from where I live, definitely want to check it out. Dustin, you are brave to go in those mines, I’m holding my breathe watching you! Be safe out there! ❤️❤️
I believe it said "Hills Bros" on the can and I think I saw "vacuum packed". If so, then it held coffee. I've been to Rhyolite many times. A 1970's visit found a museum and an active bar in the old train depot.
That's my old backyard man! I grew up in Beatty. My dad still volunteers out there at the visitors center for the outdoor art. I spent a lot of my childhood hiking those mountains. So many amazing things to see there. Glad you made the trip. If you ever go back stop in and talk to my dad. He can point you to more cool stuff.
As soon as I saw that comfy chair I thought "I bet that's someone's chilling out spot." Great video, D - your sunny desert explorations are a nice treat compared to grey and damp SWBC
Well done Dustin1 I explored this place [and most of Death Valley] in 2018, and i knew this particular place would be right in your travel theme. Very cool!!!
I subscribe to a lot of channels but your uploads are the ones I really get pumped about. Your content just keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work. You’re not missing anything back here in BC.
Cool! At min. 15:21, among those artifacts in your hand is a rusty metal "key" with a slit in the straight part. I also saw one of those in another of your videos that still had the metal windings thru the slit and wound around the key. Those came with, and maybe still do, canned meats (like ham). You fit the end of a metal 1/2" tab into the slit and wind it around the can to open it.
Rhyolite is very cool. I once bought a copy of the Bonanza TV show map (my last name is Cartwright) from the old guy at the little museum. Another time, I metal detected a WW1 army uniform button near the top of the hill that's halfway between Rhyolite and Beatty. It's hard detecting anywhere in that desert. You'll swear you're up some ravine where no human has ever trod... only to to find 8,000,000 .22 bullets, half of a 1978 Chevy truck, and a limited-edition sugar cookie tin from last year.
Must of been a plane full of drunken sailors that saw the Brothel sign from the air and said crash the plane there. Lol. Great vid Dustin, keep em' coming, love your comedy humor and commentary.

Preach. You know he gets out but dayum...
Even though we know he gets out safely. L.S. can still tell him to be careful. Because I was thinking the same thing.
“And twice a week I’m the town drunk.” 😂
Where have you been
Miss you man

The second I saw the chair in the mine opening, I knew what it was for! Zen spot.
Best start to a video EVER!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you. This one cracks me up still each time is watch hahahaha
congrats on the 100K Dustin! good on you brother!
Thank you
Wow. What a wonderful way to start Our Day. Thanks Dustin....

Carl’s take on context was so beautifully articulated.
I stopped by and checked out only the wrecked airplane too. Here is the story of what happened.

What a crazy interesting story! Thanks for sharing.

Carbon monoxide is the killer tasteless odorless kills in seconds, Should have a monitor for checking air quality
Leave it to you Captain D, to find a plane wreck..
Great video.. Thanks for bringing us along. 🤣

That intro skit had me rolling lol love it. Great episode.
I lived in Tonopah, 100 miles north of Rhyolite, for 15 months when I was 8-9 years old back in 1957-58.
I love your humor !!
Carl was awesome! That old west history is one of my favorites to learn about. I feel like a lot of it is getting lost and not enough is recorded.
Great stuff! Loved all of it. Carl was a great storyteller who really drew us in. Your exploring and adventure were well told - and the humour was on point. Thank you for creating this and other videos - it is greatly appreciated! Keep smiling and safe adventures!

This one is setting off my claustrophobia alarm! lol... Brave soul, sir!
You need to catch up with Wonderhussy in Nevada . You both love adventure and maybe you could do a TH-cam adventure together
Lot's of geothermal in that area, used to be a geothermal research facility outside of Jean back in the early 1980's. Another great video of my old stomping grounds from the late 70's early 80's...

That's an amazing place! Great place for a Tiny house community!! American history the drive for Gold!! Not the best history but it's ours!
I have been to Rhyolite. It was an interesting place to see.
Me too. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the weird art
Diane Cape Town. Love your rambles. Don't stop.
Must of been a plane full of drunken sailors that saw the Brothel sign from the air and said crash the plane there. Lol. Great vid Dustin, keep em' coming, love your comedy humor and commentary.
Intro - You are so adorable!
"Twice a Week I'm the town drunk" This made laugh so much, I love it.
