    Soul Reaver 1: Raziel’s describes the transformations:
    ‘We became less human and more...divine.’
    Turel ends up a blind, shackled god worshipped in the depths of Avernus. These games were so well written.

      Yeah, we can chalk the corruption Raziel's brothers endured thanks to Nupraptor's curse corrupting Kain as it did the others in the Circle, and since Kain used part of his soul to revive the Sarafan as his sons, it affected them too, even Raziel to a small extent, but not as much as his brothers due to his being cast into the abyss when Kain set his plans into motion to try to defy history and help him and Raziel reclaim their true destinies.

      @@BryonYoungbloodThese are the questions in the lore that annoys me. How did Kain do this severing of his soul to create his vampire lieutenants/sons? How and why Raziel became what he is now and why did the abyss make him the only one with free will?

    i love that raziel actually pities turel here. once he realizes what's going on, that turel is being tortured and is insane, the "why do you stay in this terrible place?" seems like it's genuinely pity. compared to the willful hate for the other brothers, this is a sad outcome. nobody could've done this better than Michael Bell.

      @wildebur 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      This is part of why Raziel is such a good protagonist, imo. Even with how much he gets thrown around and manipulated by everyone, he actually has room for sympathy and empathy, and in the face of danger holds onto that and what he believes is right. Kain is also an amazing character, but his sadism and aloof nature makes me feel more at home with Raziel, instead.

    Something I never noticed on the first playthrough. With all the confusion over who is which champion, and with the Elder God screwing with them to get what he wants, I never noticed that the HYLDEN THEMSELVES clearly believe that Raziel is their champion. They say as much when they tell him to act in this very scene. They aren't trying to trick him into being their champion and killing Kain like The Elder God is. They really believe in him and want to help him.

    • @BryonYoungblood
      @BryonYoungblood ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, which fits into how Raziel is meant to be both the Vampire and the Hylden champions, it's just a matter of his choice that leads to it, when he succeeds being both by purifying Kain's soul once he purifies the Spirit Reaver, and also granting Kain the power to defeat the Elder God and free the Wheel of Fate from his influence.

      Hard to say, Turel's abduction is somewhat referenced in Blood Omen 1, in the book at Avernus. The Pillar Guardian of DImensions brought him to the pit supposedly. That's who summoned him. Not content with summoning demons from her era, she pulled him from a different time. It's funny to think about but BO1 Kain and Defiance Kain are running around Nosgoth at the same time. BO1 Kain rejects the sacrifice allowing Janos to be taken over by the Hylden at the same time Defiance Kain is doing other stuff.

  • @Damien_Bathory

      If I'm not wrong, it was Azimuth who summoned him from the 'darkness', which is just a metaphor for the hard times he endured after he was left to rule over Nosgoth alone and began mutating. The whole time traveling thing still confuses me to this day, but yeah, Azimuth pulled Turel through time to use him as a vessel for the Hylden.

    I still dont get one thing: do the pillars act as a prison to the hylden alone or do the pillars also provide balance to nosgoth and, if destroyed, corrupts the land or is that because the false god feeds on nosgoth?

    • @EstebanFD1799
      @EstebanFD1799 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the pillars only keep the hylden in the other dimension. Because before the war beetween Hylden and Vampires nosgoght was not corrupt.

    • @RequiemPoete
      @RequiemPoete 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      From what I can figure, the pillars keep the Hylden sealed away and draw energy from Nosgoth itself to do so. The more corrupt the pillars become, the harder they have to work to do their job and the more energy the drain out of Nosgoth to keep the seal shut. So long as one pillar has a guardian the seal remains intact and the system will limp along drawing more and more life out of the planet. If there are no guardians, the pillars fail, the seal breaks and the Hylden return in their entirety.

    • @Teixas666
      @Teixas666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pillar are the barrier that keep the Hylden locked outaide of Nosgoth, but they draw their power from the land itself, namely the different Aspects that make up the Realm.
      what ended up happening is that the power involved is so great that the pillars literally became the pillars that held these aspects up and upon their corruption this also infected the land.

    • @Rahab111222
      @Rahab111222 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe Hash, Ak and Gik are the names of three different Hylden individuals. Multiple demons tend to possess one person. They could be three Hyldens. The Hylden were in the demon dimension after all. The Hylden Lord could've been one of them.

    • @RequiemPoete
      @RequiemPoete 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hash'ak'gik is first mentioned in Blood Omen as part of random World Building Lore unrelated to the events of that game. He is unrelated to the Hylden. He's a God worshipped by cults throughout Nosgoth's history. At some point the Hylden bring Turel into Nosgoth's past and pawn him off as Hash'ak'gik in order to use the cultists as their hands in Nosgoth to accomplish their goals. Here's the passage about him:
      "And Hash'ak'gik spoke to the world, and all who heard trembled.
      "Bring me your first born, and shed their blood on the altar of the world, so I might take nourishment from them.
      Do this without question, or suffer my wrath for eternity."
      And its will was done."
