    In February 2023, EDF announced that costs would rise to £32.7bn and completion would be delayed by a further 15 months to September 2028.
    Since Hinkley Point C maximum output is 3,200MW so the installation cost is £10,000 per kW or US$12,400 per kW at £1=US$1.24. This has to be the mother of all nuclear power plants.
    OlKiluto 3 NPP in Finland has been just put into commercial operation on 16 Apr 2023 after treble its cost from 3 to 9 billion Euro. It has 1,600MW output so its installation cost is $6,187 per kW assuming US$1=1.1 Euro

      September 2028? Good grief.

    • @streaky81
      @streaky81 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OlKiluto Unit 3's 9 billion is construction cost - Hinkley C's 32 billion is full-life cost including unadjusted decommissioning costs: though the cost of decommissioning nuclear reactors is falling all the time, so the final figure will likely be significantly lower unadjusted. I do think this will be the last pair of reactors the UK builds in this fashion, though: it's going to be very hard to justify building these massive reactors in future.

      As a lifelong civil and mechanical engineer I appreciate the scale of this project, but for me the future is small modular plants, which should be able to be built quicker, with each unit learning from the design improvements of the previous unit.

      @thomasherrin6798 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could do it on its own, but tied a French Company to the Cost Price instead, there will be another 6 Large Scale Nuclear Reactors and then SMR's to suit tailored requirements when they are available by 2030 or so, for industrial applications and the like!?!
