I work at a casino. You may know the roulette payout table. Straight up bets pay 35:1, split bets pay 17:1, streets pay 11:1, corners pay 8:1, double streets pay 5:1 etc. When theres a lot of chips on the winning number, I have to count like crazy. Like I have to count (6x35 + 12x17 + 8x11 + 9x8) in a split second and if I am not able to come up with the right answer in about 2-3 seconds or just say the incorrect answer, my supervisor gets freakin MAAD XDDD I have learnt to add and multiply like a boss in the recent weeks :DD
very simple, miss. we have tables that we memorize and review every week. these tables display multiplications with 35, 17, 11, 8 and 5 with numbers from 1 to 30. so basically once you have the tables memorized, you create count cards. grab a piece of paper, on one side write the equation, say 16x17, on the other side write the correct answer, in this case 272. start by 1x35, 2x35, 3x35 etc ........ and finish with 28x5, 29x5, 30x5. memorize all multiplications with 35, 17, 11, 8 and 5. you will have a lot of cards so every day you have to spend like 30-60 mins to go through them. after 1-2 weeks, you'll notice that not only do you easily recall the answers to the equations, but you're natural ability to count (add, multiply, devide, subtract) will have developed immensly!!! basically you become a better counter and not just with the numbers you memorized but with 3-4 digit numbers as well. also, we have what we call "picture bets". a picture bet is a winning bet on a certain winning number. once the winning number has been isolated and the losing bets have been cleared off the table, you open the bets to see how many chips there are on the streets, double streets, corners, splits and straights that are in connection with the winning number and therefore are considered winning bets. 1 split + 1 corner = 25 cos 17+8=25. that is one picture bet, or 1 split + 1 straight up = 52 cos 17+35=52, which is another picture bet. they're called picture bets cos you use your memory to recall what that picture bet looks like and create an image of it in your mind, making it a lot easier to count. for instance you have 12 splits, 14 straight ups and 1 street on a winning number. from earlier, 1 split + 1 straight up = 52, sooooooo you have 12 of that combination which is 12x52=624, plus you have 2 straight ups left, which is 70 and a street which is 11. adding a number to a round number or adding a round number to any number are the easiest ways to add, so 624 + 70 = 694, plus the street, which is 11 = 705. the lucky winner wins 705 chips!!! but all this you do in your mind in a second once you have everything you need memorized!! it's fantastic!! :)))))
