I think I experience "brain synchronization" without knowing what it was when I went to Japan for a week. For the first couple days, everything as simple as the walls of a building felt more "real" than the walls of similar buildings back at home. It might sound random, but that's the best way I can describe it. Compared to spending all of your time in your room, where you know where the walls, floor and other things laying around are at, when you're in a new area, you don't know where anything is. So it's much more possible to run into a wall when you're so used to just knowing where they're at. Speaking a different language too forced me to drop thinking in my native language and to actually see things from their perspective

I also have been to Japan for one week back in 2016 - and that's where I had my first cultural shock! (I've traveled plenty before that, but Japan was the first)

It's likely a misconstrued social cue. It appears as "closed off" because, subconsciously, we likely know that this person is scrolling arms/legs means they are less present in the current interaction and more in their heads

It's likely a misconstrued social cue. It appears as "closed off" because, subconsciously, we likely know that this person is scrolling arms/legs means they are less present in the current interaction and more in their heads
