  • In this new video series, I'm going to share with you some of how I teach tennis to kids. This lesson will look specifically at the ready position, groundstrokes and movement. It will also be aimed at under 8's but the principles still apply for older age groups getting started in tennis.
This lesson will incorporate elements of the 'LTA Youth' initiative, which is one of the best schemes I have seen for getting it right from the start, which is so important for young juniors.
This will give parents and coaches some of the simple drills and I have used to progress junior players over the years and will enable them to be dynamic on all areas of the court, and in control of their body, racket and the ball.

Excellent! It can't be easy teaching young kids, a delicate balance between form, stroke production and keeping it FUN! With new players there's no substitute for a great beginning and no such thing as little strokes for little folks! I was going to joke and say "teach the kids the Spanish X drill " but you mentioned it 😅 that's awesome!! Thanks Coach Patrick, a wonderful lesson! it's funny listening to my South American coaching friends tell each other with teaching the little ones it's all about fun, fun, fun, guys! but they are moving their students hands (grips) and arms and putting them into correct positions haha! Great work being done all around! 🙋‍♂️👍🙏

Yes, it's definitely finding that balence Nathan your right. We are lucky the sport of tennis itself is so fun anyway it's about letting these kids discover that!

@nathanmiller6051 Yes it's something Ashley Neaves 'The Tennis Mentor' talks about the importance of kids having fun with friends on the courts outside of structured coaching sessions. Learning through experimenting with different shots and touch/feel games we did as we were growing up but seems to have been lost along the way

@nathanmiller6051 Top Tennis Training haha 🤔? That's very kind of you to say Nathan especially as I'm still a smaller channel. Actually uploaded first TH-cam video this week last year coincidentally. Thanks for all your support 🙏
