  • Penn State football coach James Franklin is accused of meddling into the medical affairs of his players in a wrongful termination lawsuit at Penn State brought forward by one of the team's former doctors. Dr. Scott Lynch and Franklin did not appear to see eye to eye on several matters unveiled in emails presented in the case.
    We should point out college football coach James Franklin is not a defendant in this case. However he has been mentioned in testimony. The defense will bring former Penn State football players Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley to testify that they were satisfied how their injuries were treated while at Penn State. This lawsuit will be of particular interest to many college football coaches and fans.

    If Franklin were beating Michigan and Ohio State, and making a few CFP appearances, I believe this would be much less of a story.

      Then it would be just replacing a Team Physician for another one because it's done all the time.

    This is how it starts. You have a coach who wins enough to keep his job but not enough for the alumni.

      @@reconsoldier135 But it's usually the disgruntled staff or players that are used to take head coaches down, so their universities can fire them with cause, by creating a controversy.

    This isn't a story about Franklin at all for those who know the facts. In short, there's been a therapist who have launched multiple frivolous claims against Penn State athletics. This current trial has lasted 3 years but the media is only picking it up because Franklin's name was mentioned by a witness last week. The former AD was also involved in the decision making process but her name doesn't get clicks.
    As Penn State Health is testifying, it's part of standard practice and policy to recommend players to medically retire regarding the scholarship claim. See Journey Brown and even Langon Tengwall last offseason. The issue is that medical professionals aren't subject matter experts on how NCAA scholarships work. A player retains their scholarship if they medically retire. It just doesn't count against the 85.
    Had PSU not taken proper precautions, the story would be that Franklin wants players with long term mental or physical ailments to practice and play to retain their scholarship and receive treatment. The AD, Franklin, and others are overly cautious about player health and safety and recommended this player basically goes on the college football equivalent of IR so he can focus on his health and wellbeing without the stresses of football attached.
    If Penn State were going to throw Franklin under the bus it already would've happened. They definitely wouldn't allow PSU Health to sacrifice their global brand and reputation. And no current or former player is suing Franklin or serving as a witness. Right now it's one upset former employee and their witness who doesn't understand NCAA scholarships versus everyone else. But since the claim was made you gotta fight in the court of public opinion.

      Ask Pat Fitzgerald about how something like this can snowball.

    • @heartbreak25
      @heartbreak25 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Colonel__Ingus69 Uh, okay, what does that have to do with how medical retirements and scholarships work again per NCAA rules? Franklin is not named as a defendant in the complaint. The AD was present in the decision-making but Sandy Harbour isn't good for clicks.
      If something was going to snowball, then the kid who accused Franklin of allowing him to get bullied and assaulted would've snowballed. Ever heard of that case? No. Because it was thrown out of court and Franklin was actually named as a defendant.
      If any school knows about lawsuits and how things can snowball then it's Penn State. If the case was started three years ago, do you really think it'd take this long to bring up something against Franklin if there was a smoking gun? Bringing up examples that have nothing to do with what's being alleged doesn't dismiss the facts.

    I'm sick of this "win at all cost" accusation. Do you really think that's not an issue at OSU when they play Michigan? All those huge schools have the same mentality. That's why these coaches are paid insane amounts of money.

    Why can't you compare the two? Of course there are different degrees of abuse, but the bottom line is this school turns a blind eye to all-things football. You'd think they'd go the extra mile in trying to rebuild their absolutely destroyed reputation....but nah, it just moved on.

    Part of the reason the doctor was fired was he live 2 hours away in Hershey and wasnt allowed to surgeries in the hospital in state college, and he wouldn't move to state college so when a player needed surgery they would have to be transported the 2 hours down and back after surgery. He wasn't allowed to use the hospital in state college.
