Sorry Angela, we missed your comment. We usually look at Google flights in cognito mode and decide based on that. Turkish Airlines is a pretty good company to consider. Thanks for watching!
Simply brilliant! Thank you for thoroughly addressing so many common questions. You two have provided practical advice, reassurance and pragmatic tips for first-time visitors. The fact you each bring a different perspective adds further dimension. You rightly point out that travelers can be prepared for anything, since Turkey seemingly has it all! The country could not have two better ambassadors! The language barrier is initially intimidating, but a warm smile translates universally.
Appreciate that so much Scott, glad you found it so useful! We wanted to do our best to put everyone's minds at ease when visiting Turkey for the first time, so that they know it is both safe and can prepare properly. A warm smile indeed translates perfectly, when Steve first began learning Turkish, a lot of my family and friends still appreciated how he was always smiling even if he could not understand the conversations going on around him.
This is exactly what I needed! So many American friends are asking me about Turkey right now haha... BTW it’s cheaper for Americans to buy the visa at the border, I believe it’s $20 or $30. Bf and I discovered it after he bought it in advance online for $50 lol.

These were really helpful tips!! From SIM cards, to safety, and visas to English barriers - you covered it all nicely and clearly. Also, I had no idea you could go skiing in Turkey! The more you know :) I also enjoyed the combination of your perspectives and answers to the questions. Nicely done as always :)
Thanks, glad you liked it all, we definitely wanted to make sure we covered all the basics and yes, Uludag, a few hours outside of Istanbul is approximately 3,5000 meters above sea level, which makes for some good skiing during the winter. Thanks soo much!🙏😍
I definitely agree that it's a good idea to learn some basic Turkish before you visit. In regards to taxis here, I would recommend using Bitaksi app. You're less likely to get overcharged or driven the long way to your destination. I've lived here a few years and I still get the occasional taxi driver that takes me on a tour before actually going where I wanted. Also, I honestly suggest that women not travel alone in certain areas and try not to look like a tourist too much. Thank you for your videos. I'm enjoying them very much. Steve, I loved hearing your NY accent. I'm an East Coast girl and it reminded me of home. Gocke it's wonderful seeing the country through your eyes as someone who's lived in the USA for a long time. Keep all the great videos coming.
Aww thanks so much for this sweet comment, it makes us so happy to hear that you are enjoying our videos. We also noticed that Uber was slightly more expensive than the BiTaksi, but it might be easier for tourists to use Uber. 🤗
Ooh! Had never thought about Turkey as a ski destination!🎿 sounds like a great idea😎 the tips for where to stay were super helpful and the transport. Thanks for sharing!

Hey guys!! This is exactly what we need for sure if we want to travel to Turkey in the future. Turkey is definitely on our top list and so glad that they open for visitors now. Hearing many people are visiting Turkey right now which is kind of rare news compared to Australia here which we don't accept foreign travellers at all during the pandemic. Love the tip about the food, don't stuck with kebab and baklava haha. Couldn't agree more, every region must have different specialty and we won't have regret trying them as Steve said :D. Thanks for sharing this! Hope you guys stay safe while traveling around Turkey 😊

Seems like outside the U.S., most countries are so much more friendly to strangers. I'll have to go back to this video if we ever make it to Turkey!!! Can't wait till things are back to normal. That's one thing I would love to try. But I love myself some baklava and kabobs. But I would try the other things at least once. Thanks for giving us this overview.
Everyone's mileage may vary, but for sure I've (Steve) experienced nothing but amazing hospitality while I've been here. We really hope the Santos Family can make it one day and we would love to show you around. Of course you have to try the staples, but we'd have you try some unique food as well! ;)
Great video. Love how you are quick, and to the point with your advice / recommendations. I look forward to the food and drink. I will be in the Sultahmet area and am looking for recommendations for places to get good authentic Turkish food, both restaurants and street food. Thanks, and good luck with your videos.

As someone who has never been to Turkey but would like to, this was very helpful. I was particularly interested in transport info as I wasn't sure if Turkey would be somewhere worth visiting if we didn't want to hire a car. Very informative, well done!
So glad you found it helpful! Having a car will definitely be helpful, but not necessary. Steve was skeptical of the bus situation at first, but now he enjoys it more than flying for short trips for sure. Hope you can make it some day soon!
You have prepared a perfect tourist guide and have summarised every thing about İstanbul and turkey. Things to do List is very important in abroad. Our favorite in istanbul is Moda. And also be careful for tasting street foods like every countries. But kokoreç is absolutely top thing to eat in turkey 👏
I had no idea that Turkey was a ski destination. This is great information for new or returning travellers... you definitely covered more than just the basics. I've been hearing more about drone laws lately, must be because drones are getting more popular. I'd definitely love to try the food, it looks delicious.
It is not quite the Alps, but Uludag outside of Bursa has some great skiing for most. Hope you can make it here one day to visit and try out all the food!

LOL, let's talk Turkey!!!! Way to give your fans what they want. That's pretty smart that they to get the money first from the bank. You guys are the expert international travelers. We haven't gone traveling internationally as a family yet. Can't wait till we do. Safety is always a good question, so good that you have gotten a good experience. You guys have gotten some epic Brolls for your videos. So who is the editor of you two? Really like how your travels were interweaved to this video.
😂 Steve learned a lot from the credit card point system and having a bad experience at an exchange place in Rome.... since then we've made sure to be smart about traveling abroad. Unfortunately many ask about Turkey's safety even though it has never been a thought which has crossed our mind. So, we kind of edit together.... Steve gets everything in to order, but I give it a few final reviews to make sure it is all ready to be posted! ;)
You have told us very nice and details for Turkey. Especially the information on transportation is great. As a traveler, my most need is to learn this. While people have many reasons to come to Turkey and it may even be the only meal 😋😍
This is such great info. To be honest getting a visa is something quite often overlooked. I know since it happened to me. And the safety issue is one that is on everyone’s minds. But you should always be smart and aware of your surroundings no matter where you travel!
Exactly, it happened to Steve the first time he visited as well, and needed to get one at the door since I never had to get a visa to Turkey myself😂 Thankfully Turkey keeps it simple and allows the visa at the door to happen. When we both lived and worked in NYC, we worked close enough to tourist attractions that we had to always be aware, safety issues can happen anywhere.
This is such great info and , is brilliant to get. We are always a little skeptical with trying new food, but with your advise, we will be more open to it. We would love to go to turkey one day and thank you so very much for your fantastic tips. ONE LOVE
Thanks Kelby and Adam! Turkish food won't shock you (mostly), but it is different enough that you have to keep an open mind... and it is certainly worthwhile! Hope you two can make it some time soon!
Great tips, guys! Thank you. I'll be in Istanbul for 2 weeks. I thought about doing Old Town for 1 week and Kadikoy for another. Get a good sense of both sides!
1 week in Old Town may be a bit much, 3-4 days there will be enough. You can also check out Harbiye near Taksim, besiktas or sisli/nisantasi to get a better feel of the European side. 1 week in kadikoy should be fun though!
@@TravelInteresante Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. Thanks so much! I work during the week so "a week in Old Town" ends up turning into only 3 free days anyways haha.
Omg Turkey looks so beautiful! It's somewhere we've been wanting to go for ages. Thanks for such an informative video! I haven't heard of Google FI before - I'll have to look that up 😃 Never thought about Turkey as being a skiing place. Antalya looks amazing! Love the footage that you have overlooking the water 🤩 The bus system in Turkey looks really good . Shame that it's so risky during Covid.
This is a really great info guys! seems like most Istanbul area is reached easily by the metro which is so great, we love to use metro a lot when traveling overseas. Just wondering, is Istanbul child friendly city especially for family with baby prams? and yes Turkish foods! we will love them for sure :)
Well children are vulnerable. If you are gonna take tram or buses traveling around istanbul, you better know that buses and trams are gonne be so crowded so i dont suggest you to travel like that. And istanbul has 7 hills as you can imagine it's not good to walk around especially with kids. Museums are free for under 18 y.o. Dont forget to have a museum cards. You can find it anywhere. Turks love kids and guests. Feel free to ask questions if you have any problem. People will help you as mush as they can. Enjoy your travel !
@@metehangenc5285 thanks so much for answering this! It is really good advice, we also highly recommend the museum card to everyone if they are going to see all the sights. It is very true, Istanbul can be extremely hilly beyond the seaside and we wind up taking cabs a decent amount of time. As far as a taxi, if you can't use the BiTaksi app just pull up Google maps to make sure your driver is mostly going the right way.
Note about ATM's. I got charged a massive exchange fee for taking out money from a Turkish bank ATM on top of the $5 fee because I have an American bank at home. I then tried a HSBC ATM which didn't charge me the exchange fee, just the normal $5 fee. Wish I would have known this before.
Thanks for sharing this and its really sad that what happened. It is not cool that they charged you extra, do you remember what bank did it? It would be beneficial to those seeing this video to help them avoid that bank. Thank you so much!
We found Istanbul to be one of the safest cities we've visited worldwide, better than London or New York, including late-night strolls in the city. I recommend a day visit to the Princes Islands (we had wonderful ahtopot - octopus in red wine - on the shore), also Kokoreç (lamb's intestines) must be tried. All the food was excellent, there was nothing we would not recommend. It's a wonderful city, visit to the Asian shore is a must. We stayed in the city one week, and barely scratched the surface, so we need to return. The metro system is excellent and very clean.
Very comprehensive tips guys! It seems like so many people are going to Turkey at the moment, so I’m sure this will be super helpful for everyone. (Did you guys bump into Lost Leblanc or Lexi Limitless 🙊)
Haha, our paths did not cross unfortunately, though I'm sure at some point they crossed! Turkey is one of the few countries completely open at this point and with it being mostly affordable, it definitely seems like everyone is heading this way!

Hi! I love your videos. My bf and I quit our jobs and are going nomadic. We'll be starting in Istanbul, Turkey in a few weeks and I'm wondering if you have a recommended route to visit the various places (Cappadocia, Antalya, Fethiye, etc.). I know some places will be easier to fly to and others we'll need to rent a car to get to. Just unsure what the most efficient route is. Thanks so much! :)
Thanks Maritza! You can fly to Cappadocia, Izmir or Antalya. However for Fethiye you may need a car. Maybe start from Izmir, see Ephesus, get a car and drive down the South and make your way up to Pamukkale. That's what we did. You can do Cappadocia separately via plane from Istanbul. Hope this helps! Have a wonderful time and feel free to reach out via Instagram as well. 🙏

Great video guys! Quick question on the drone laws, seeing a lot of conflicting info. Do you know if it is still 500g and below? I want to take my Mini 2 with me and am a bit confused on the rules. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks a lot Jamie! We understand the rule to still be anything under 500g does not need to be registered. While we've never had an issue with our original Mavic Air (430g), we'd recommend double checking this website: iha.shgm.gov.tr/public/index?language=2
You should have no issues bringing it in and should not need to register it. I would double check the link in our description for drones though just in case the government has updated any of the regulations since we made the video. Glad you enjoyed the video and have a great time visiting!
Hi, I might have to work while visiting Cappadocia, Pamukkale, or Fethiye. Is the wifi going to be an issue? Am I better off using mobile data? Great video by the way.
The signals might be lower buy it can also depend on your hotel. Asides from Istanbul it's not always guaranteed but you should be fine unless you are video streaming. Thanks and happy you liked it 😇
We really liked Jazz Hotel in the Nisantasi neighborhood. It is more modern Istanbul, but located right near a metro stop to get to old town pretty easily.
Thanx for the tips! I'm planning 5-6 days in Istambul this sommer. I'm searching a cheap hotel in Galata, Taksim area. Do you think it's a nice area? I'm also looking on the Asian side but I think it's not convenient for the transportation, especially during the night. What do you think? Thanx for your suggestions. Cheers from Switzerland!
Hi Simone, hope you have a great time in Turkey! We generally don't stay in hotels on the European side, but we had a good time at Jazz Hotel in Nisantasi, one neighborhood over from Taksim and nearby to a train station: www.jazzhotel.com.tr/ If it is your first time visiting, we'd say stick to the European side to visit all of the sites. Kadikoy is an amazing neighborhood, but yes the ferry stops running around midnight.
Thanks for the info Can you talk about EXTREME adventure like bungee jumping, water parks, capadokya balloon ride, paragliding and more ? Tell us where to find these stuff and more and where to go book these stuff and how and the prices so we do not get scammed. Do you advice going to travel agent in Istanbul to buy a package of all these activities? If you do, which travel agent company is the best to avoid scams? I am coming Istanbul on June and stay for 14 days with my friends and we need your advice brother 🙏
Hello Ahmed! June should be a great time to come! Our other videos may be helpful, in particular you may like the Fethiye/Oludeniz area. There you'll find Turkey's longest canyon and in Oludeniz is Turkey's famous paragliding. It may still be a bit cheaper now due to the pandemic, but in normal times you could expect to pay around $100 USD per person, same thing for the balloon rides in Cappadocia. Best bet is to check Tripadvisor ahead of time and be ready to negotiate.
Hi! I'm looking to plan a trip to Turkey in a few weeks from the states. Do you know if the Grand Bazaar is open currently with the COVID restrictions? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks!
As of now it is open. Shopping malls remain open currently, even under new restrictions. Turkish citizens and residents are being required to show their "HES" code (Life fits into home in English) prior to entering now, however, that may not extend to tourists and may not be applicable to the Grand Bazaar. We are making a covid update video due out today or tomorrow at the latest for a proper update.

We generally have no issues bringing a personal amount in our carry ons and for prescriptions as long as it is in your name it should be ok as well. Wish we could provide a link, but we do not have one. That said, there are plenty of small pharmacies in Turkey and in the touristic areas they should have someone who speaks English who can help provide you with anything you don't or forget to bring (beyond prescription stuff) and besides vitamins they tend to be a good bit cheaper than in the US.
@@TravelInteresante Thank you so much!! We live in Spain and generally prescriptions come in generic boxes without your name on them. So we are taking copies of the written prescription from the MD just in case. Nothing has opiates in it so we hope that makes it all a non-issue.
I appreciate your video and info extremely helpful, but how does one get to Cappadocia from Istanbul I guess What I’m asking here is what the best way to get there? I’m planning on visiting Turkey and Cappadocia is on top of my lists
We would suggest you to fly. Bus ride would be too long around 8-10 hours and not more efficient than a plane. Thanks so much for watching and glad you found it helpful 😊
Hey bud, I'm flying to Turkey on the 19th of Sept. Just to head start about the Taxi, are Taxi still around in Istanbul at 2 or 3am? because I need to know if there are still around the city for example if the next flight is in the morning at 8 and the distant is far.
It depends on where you will be staying. If you are nearby a hotel you can ask them to call one for you. If you are at a busy street you can find them easier as there are cab drivers doing night shifts.
Is it mandatory for all visitors to Turkey to fill out the form, the Turkey Public Health Passenger Locator Form on line in advance before the entry to Turkey?
Turkish Airlines website has the most up to date information regarding entry, would definitely recommend checking it out, but we believe the form is no longer required.
Hello guys, I am wondering is schwab investor account that waives atm fees gives you a good exchange rate? Have you retroactively compared the rate your bank gave you to the current prevailing exchange rates? I have the same account but wonder if this is how they make up for the free or refunding of atm fees. Thanks from Oregon, USA
Hi Sally, yeah a few times to the rate I would find on google. It isn't exact, but I find it close enough that it doesn't bother me and I assume others offering similar accounts are doing the same. I think it's a fair trade off for reimbursement of the atm fees (which can be high now in Turkey) plus the convenience of never having to find and deal with a currency exchange.

Isparta (Davraz), Kastamonu (Ilgaz). These are some of the most popular ski resorts in Turkey. You can ski on average for 5 months. There is also Kocaeli (Kartepe) ski resort 1 hour away from Istanbul, but you can find good snow in this center for 3 months of the year. There are many ski resorts, especially in the Eastern and Northern cities, but some are smaller and more local. These are the world-renowned ski resorts.
Wow you guys really gave everything you need to know from A-Z. Really helpful to know about BiTaksi - and to make sure you have a Turkish phone number to avoid having to grab taxis on the street as a tourist. Such a helpful tip!
Thank you! It's good to have alternatives when Uber is not allowed 🙌

Great info about the Bitaksi app. Ride-share apps are such an important thing to know wherever you travel
Absolutely! Uber is banned in Turkey so its important to explore new options

Very informative ❤
Thank youuuu ☺️
Like that you guys are up front about the language barrier
Thank you and its better to be prepared beforehand for sure :)
That's amazing, thanks for sharing your experience! 🙏❤️

I know some places will be easier to fly to and others we'll need to rent a car to get to. Just unsure what the most efficient route is. Thanks so much! :)
Before Cappadocia you should visit İzmir. Ephesus ancient city is in that city and its amazing!!
Thanks and happy you liked it 😇
Can you tell me which hotel did you stay at in Istanbul that had good price and good buffet. Thank you
We really liked Jazz Hotel in the Nisantasi neighborhood.
We generally don't stay in hotels on the European side, but we had a good time at Jazz Hotel in Nisantasi, one neighborhood over from Taksim and nearby to a train station: www.jazzhotel.com.tr/
If it is your first time visiting, we'd say stick to the European side to visit all of the sites. Kadikoy is an amazing neighborhood, but yes the ferry stops running around midnight.

Please any information or link about bringing Over the Counter medicines like Ibuprofen, Vitamin D, multivitamins, prescription meds, etc. Thanks!

Can I enter entry form at the Airport in Turkey?
Hey bud, I'm flying to Turkey on the 19th of Sept. Just to head start about the Taxi, are Taxi still around in Istanbul at 2 or 3am? because I need to know if there are still around the city for example if the next flight is in the morning at 8 and the distant is far.
Yes cabs at the airport are running 24/7! Hope you have a wonderful time in Turkey!
@@TravelInteresante great, then what about the city like in the streets?
