- Part 3 of a "Bonsai" from Amazon, that i bought in the spring of 2020. In this video I start the air layer to try and fix the dreadful roots.

You could also slip pot it in a larger pot, and bring the soil right above the air layer. I find that can be easier on the tree. Hopefully it works! Nice liitle elm you have there!

Now that’s what I am talking about! That’s going to have a wicked little trunk to root-flair when they grow in.

I would have let It grow out for a few years and not worry about the roots, then air layered it as it's so small.
But I'm invested now, I'm rooting for success... Pun intended 😂😝😂

Very interesting project! The waiting is unbearable - happy thoughts for many roots next year - will make a super tree.

I look forward to next spring to see how things are progressing with this as an airlayer. I have quite a few different size elms with that type of misformed root structure so may follow your lead next spring and do the same to a couple of them. Cheers :)

I wonder whether the two legs will grow leaves when you separate them, as elm should strike very easily from root cuttings (not in my experience but, ehy, who am I after all 😂)
