I have fused several of my rooted ficus trees. Banyan and Benjamina really grow together fast. You can also break up the fusion lines with a sharp blade just remove some of the lines and the new bark will fuse over. Love how you recycle items. I have tons of throw away plastic pots. Great video for showing the long period of shots. Thanks 👍
I am already looking forward to the next video on this "Fusion Ficus" Hopefully it gets a bonsai pot soon, it's lookin' badass. 😎 I'll have to give this a go with a few of mine. Keep up the great vids! 👍🏽
cheers, spoiler, it hasnt got a new pot ..yet haha. it does need one though, its kind of tight in there, but i am not sure i can fit in a larger pot. I will have to work something out. and defo give it a go with yours! :)
Can you send me a new house first 😭. Then it can fit in haha. But really if does need something bigger for sure. Might be another junk pot for a while, slightly bigger though . But it will get a proper one eventually.
Wow, I'm shocked at how big this has gotten in the past few years. I have a ficus fusion ive been working on for about the same amount of time and it hasnt done nearly as well. Im starting to think the ariel roots are taking away from the trunk on mine. It would make sense i guess. Anyways, great video brother.
@@BackGardenBonsai Yep, it honestly never even occurred to me til now. I'll be posting an update on mine this weekend. It's not nearly as impressive as yours yet. Anyways, love your content, cheers!
Cheers Sue. Styling wise, pretty much what it is now - short, wide and upright. Just needs more ramification really/wider pot. and then i would eventuality let the aerial roots develop too
Awesome. Ur videos have inspired me too try out my own ficus fusion. What is your regiment on watering / feeding ( what type of fertiliser do you use? )
Cheers. yea give it a go! i just fertilise about once a month during the growing season. just a general all purpose one. nothing special. as for watering ...when it needs it lol. stupid answer, but its true. i check it daily. if it needs water, it gets it.
Ian, really enjoyed your journey with this plant. Have only been working on my own trees for the last 18 months, (6 ginseng ficus from Morrisons, poor quality, loved nonetheless, air rooting from two ficus houseplants and, finally two root over rock benjamina I took from the previously mentioned houseplants 25 xyears ago (but lost interest in). I live in London and have tried various 'recipes' for soil mix with various degrees of failure. What would you recommend, please. Ps really enjoy your pragmatic and route one approach. Terence
Cheers :) ginseg and benjamina are gonna be good in london as you probably dont have much access to outside. but anyway. i always use molar clay and perlite, mixed with some compost. i used to use equal parts, but now i tend to use less compost. you just have to play around with the ratios to get something that hold enough water, but also drains quite fast. also molar clay is often sold as cat liter ...but not all cat liter is molar clay so you need to double check what you are buying.
Ian, thanks for advice, New Safety Tread et al ordered and looking forward to repotting existing and some cuttings I've have just in water. When are you going to English oaks some attention?
@@terencedixon2960 The safety safety tread is good stuff 👍 i dont have any english oaks, and no space for any. i am pretty sure i did plant some acorns years ago, but i dont remember what happened. ive only got the 1 holm oak now.
Nice tree, good proportions n great to see you in action again, it’s been a hot minute ! Blessings to you for a happy and healthy 2024 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. ✌️🇮🇱🤍✌️
Wow, she has really put on some girth these last two years! I’m diggin where you’re going with it, brother!
Cheers bro, its slowing coming along

Cheers, yeah i have thought about scarring up the lines, just havnt got round to it. glad to hear it will actually work tho.
@@BackGardenBonsai yeah if you do it right you can work on having flukes or just break up the straight line. It's easy.
That tree is savage broski!!! Its already great, but its gonna be.......boom!!! Love it. Cheers
Cheers bro. its getting there
Shes put on some growth wow. The tree is getting to be a stunner, nice job 👍🏻
Cheers. i am not sure if "stunner" is the word id go for hahah but it is doing good :p
Wow, some impressive tree and impressive root system. Those things dont mess around!
Yeah bro, I should have used them with the BP!
This video has motivated me to fuse 3 of my ficus Benjamin's together come spring. Love the wild and crazy look you have in that tree.
Cheers, yeah give it a try! it just needs time to join as one!
Great tree! Loads of character in that trunk!
Cheers :)

Cheers bro, yeah dont let those ariels get too out of hand. they look so cool, but defo bipass the trunk and thicken the upper branches instead.
