Your video helped me with my similar HP 17-161dx. Your technique to remove the optical drive gave me the confidence to use a bit more force to slide it out to get to the 2 silver screws. THANK YOU!

Very many thanks for this video - have the same laptop with the same symptoms. Followed your guide and found the air vent completely blocked. The fan was fine so cleaned it all up and now its working perfectly again. This video is just the sort of thing that the internet was made for!! Thanks again, Mike

Great demonstration. After watching you, I've determined this is not something I'm comfortable doing myself. You probably saved me from destroying my laptop.

Great video! How long have you been working on computers for? I’d like to get A+CompTia certified next year. Happy New Year!

My fan has stopped working too. I have no tools or confidence to fix it myself. Now, the question is, I bought the laptop new for $600, is it cost effective to get repaired or might as well buy a new one?

The back of my laptop shows only 4 screws. And I don't see anywhere that even shows a battery door. It is a 17.3 Hp. Any help?

If it’s the 17x series laptop they came with max ram, 8 gb, it needs 16 Gb but the motherboard can’t handle the extra ram
I’ve got one too it needs more ram.

I wouldn't use a power tool to remove or install the screws.

HP once again with a masterclass in how to NOT make a user serviceable laptop... sheesh.
