Good on you CBC news for having put out a really nice story about how someone found a really positive new direction in a hobby a lot of us love. It's nice to see that instead of the negative press the hobby often gets. Passing this along to a bunch of friends and to the Warhammer hobby community.
My husband just found Warhammer and I’m loving it! He works a physically demanding job with really long hours. I could see him losing himself over the years. Warhammer has made him light up like a kid again and I can’t wait for the newest drop to finally arrive ❤️
I'm starting to paint miniatures too because I suffered a career ending injury. It really does hurt not being able to help around the house and finding an activity you can do really helps fight off depression.
Injured ironworker I feel your pain went from hunting fishing camping every season and building skyscrapers to crippling pain from 20 foot fall at work lost everything except family. Started painting miniatures again gave me some help accomplishment.
Maverickspain has been a person, for the past year or so, who I have really looked up to and admired the work they have done. I got back into Warhammer 40k about 5 years ago, however he still inspires me to keep going and trying new things. It helps with my mental health and to escape the "outside world". To just simply build, clean and paint a miniature brings such satisfaction and pride is amazing! Keep up the great work Stuart! Love your work!
Such a fantastic hobby. I work with a company out of the States where most of them have turned it into a full career. Between hobby, live content and teaching the game itself. It can scratch almost any hobby itch.
I relate with this so much.... When I developed crohns disease (and apparently IBS at the same time) 3 years ago, I felt like I lost who I was. I used to be very physically active with Kick boxing and going to the gym, and working overtime. I had to give up almost all of that and can barely find part time work now. But after I started painting my beautiful boys in blue (ultramarines), there is just so much pride and gratification felt by the end product. I had to accept becoming a new version of myself. It is now a part of who I am today.
Having injured my back in a school bus accident, please seek out treatment from an athletic therapist. Everything done before did little to help. As soon as my athletic therapist did my first treatment, I cried in the car for an hour from relief.
As much as i disagree with Games Workshop's pricing and sometimes bad decision making regarding Warhammer's property, i EXTREMELY recommend people hopping inot the hobby. It's so much fun and the community is so great to be around. If anybody gets a chance to paint/play Warhammer, do it.
Stuart Nicolson, if you’re watching this….you’re a fantastic painter man. it’s not easy putting paint on minis so thank you for inspiring us all to paint our plastic.
I used to collect paint and play Warhammer waaay long ago. Back when the figures were still made of lead and came with warning labels lol. Dwarfs and Bretonnia forever! It can become so addicting and incredibly satisfying
I can relate with Mr. Nicolson and am truly happy he's found a new passion. Thank you for your services and new one too. GOD's blessings to you and your family.
It's so important for people to have hobbies! Really cool art, beautiful shading! With the new edition of 10th recently releasing, I can only hope one of my minis looks anywhere near this good lol.
I started paint warhammer models when COVID hit because gundam Were models getting too expensive But they went down in price again so now I do both But something about warhammer models. When you're done, feel so Satisfying people who Get into warhammer for the first time and paint a model, it feels amazing.
@@MightyGachiman maybe it's like monsters inc... they found out the power of good vibes... To bad the are exposed as working for the spider monster boss.
Freakin incredible interview - love Mac and that y’all covered him. This hobby has brought so much to combat mental health for so many of us - esp thru the pandemic. Mav has been a genuine inspo to us sharing his journey
Well done, sir. I stumbled backasswards onto your content a few weeks ago. Your painting style and, quite frankly, the gory side of battles reminded me of a guy I used to be as a trauma flight medic in the military. Best, GrimmWraven
This is radical! He does a good job too. I know so many needs out there that don't have the time to paint and are always looking g to buy prepainted minis
In the grim darkness of the man cave, there is only war. In all seriousness though, I've been painting up a bunch of mechs for Battletech lately, going to finish up my Falcon Guards trinary later today.
Once I got back into Warhammer and 40K after 10 years I've had a much better peace of mind and lower stress. Great hobby but it can be a bit expensive for some.

This is a great story, and I also got into miniature painting but for mental health issues and have been painting ever since... I am nowhere close to being as good as this guy but I do my best and create videos to encourage anyone out there to start painting even if the miniatures don't look like the fancy artwork that is out there... however since my 3 concussions, I have had to slow down my painting and video creation. All the best to maverickspaint ...
ya theres only so much internet one can take these days and you think back to the old days when the grand folk were painting trains etc and then figured if i was going to paint something i mgith as well go back to my childhood and do warhammer and would look on a shelf anyways lol.

You sound like a very wonderful and supportive partner! Really hope you're both enjoying the hobby. :)
Hmm vs this popping up in my feed randomly days later... but w/e great of the CBC to notice Mavericks Painting, really is inspirational.
The sight of that very unlucky marine being melted by a gauss weapon is genuinely impressive.
I'm starting to paint miniatures too because I suffered a career ending injury. It really does hurt not being able to help around the house and finding an activity you can do really helps fight off depression.
this guys painting is high art, beautiful stuff.

Mav is still a hero, especially to the painting community. Thanks for covering this!
This is an awesome story. I'm glad Stuart is getting his life back together; amazing artwork too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the hobby friend, I hope it brings you great joy
So happy to see one of my favourite Warhammer youtubers getting some well deserved recognition!!!!
Sentimental, I was so invested in the Orks I first painted, I was trying to fight battles without getting them killed.
This is really nice to see, for once a news station did it right!

If only I could paint all day. My job is just horrible, but painting miniatures just is the best.

bretonia is just about to come back as they are using them as one the first factions for warhammer old world
Really nice to see him getting more attention like this, never knew he was a former firefighter until now. Love his contents.

broke my leg and picked up the hobby; it's been over a year now and painting, playing and reading the lore is all just great.
