    So what happened between the Pi and the monitor? Just an HDMI lead? Did you just remove the back to make it thinner?

  • @vertexrikers
    @vertexrikers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Nice one! Next you could add some kind of sensor to switch the display on when someone is in front of the mirror. Depending on where you mount it, you could use a laser and photoelectric sensor
    (what's the word for "Laserschranke" in English!?) or an infrared camera setup. Just avoid timed motion detection, or the display will switch off while you are dwelling in admiration in front of it ;D

    • @han_pritcher
      @han_pritcher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure of the translation but it sounds like you are describing some sort of beam-breaking sensor. I would opt for a pyroelectric infrared sensor; they're cheap, easy to set up and have a fairly wide field of view.

    • @vertexrikers
      @vertexrikers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, in German we have "Lichtschranke" (Licht=light and Schranke=gate/barrier) or "Laserschranke" as one word to describe detecting the interruption of a laser beam or other light source. While laser has the ultimate cool factor, I too would opt for infrared - it's just that I think a PIR sensor only goes for motion detection? I'm not sure about this tho - I just know them from motion detectors and thought you wouldn't want to pace up and down in front of the mirror to keep the display on.
      She's from Sweden, right? So... no +32°C on the walls during summer? Meaning the surrounding should provide a cold enough contrast to just trigger on the detection of a "warm face" looking into the mirror. I reckon there even are face recognition solutions for the raspi - how far is the OpenCV port along btw? Look into it and get a personalized greeting, while guests get a "Hello Stranger, are you supposed to be here?" =)
      So I think I'd use a round wire-brush-drill-bit-thingy to clean two areas from the backcoating of the mirror and then install two cameras - one with IR filter and one without? Don't know if facial recognition could work without IR filter. Anyhow: then streaming the camera-image in the mirror would be... woooot! :D ...great, now I has wantings.
