Zoe Hong ya girl i got you! 👍i recently got back into design becaus i was looking for a new job and ive been updating my portfolio and journaling and so on. and ive really been enjoying listenibg to your videos when in trying to stay in that creative thought process. thanks for the post. =] happy friday
Love how raw and real this is. I have been out of fashion school for about 10 years now, and it takes me back to why I studied fashion in the first place. All this awesome creativity we don't often get to explore while working in fashion jobs. I have started to make time in my schedule again to play and develop concepts of my own (in knitwear, because that's where I'm specialized). Thanks for putting together this series!
Fashion is a hobby for me but I'm trying to expand my knowledge, and I'm having a ton of fun watching your videos and learning new things. It's super inspiring hearing you talk about creating and learning. Thank you for your content!
Zoe.... i love you... not just your work... bu from your sense of humor to ur singing and ur nonchalant humming... u r one of d best gurus (teacher) i have come across.. so thank you.. thank you so much.. for imparting this ocean of knowledge and keeping us aspiring designers motivated.. in love with you.. head over heels..
as a crystal fanatic (and a binger of this series) the gems are Kyanite (the _only_ one I'm not 100% sure on), and then sulfur, citrine, and rose quartz! also, the lines and shapes you're doing around the rose quartz look just like the lines I shade with on the rare occasions I draw for fun! so cool to see that next to one of my fave gems
I watch this video because you inspire me so much , not because you are gonna make me learn some magic, I know there is a lot of work behind it... I love seeing your complete design process too! Also, thank you for sharing this 😊
You have probably got this comment many times but seriously watching your videos are more helpful than going to school!! Thanks a lot! Pls keep going!!!
Gosh I just love you!!! 😘😘😘😘You make me laugh when I'm having a ruff day (kids😔) and you inspire me all at the same time. I'm behind on your videos so I'm gonna have to do a full on day of TH-cam with you😆😁😁 marathon here we come 📱
Thanks for the great video Zoe! Amazing series, super raw, narrative and helping the real process instead of just explaining. Feels like I have a team and I am doing this together in a community! Super excited to see the rest of the videos.
This may be weird to say, but this video series is so healing ❤️ thank you. I feel like I've been out of touch with my process and you're stoking that fire!!
So I started looking at birds on my phone and I skipped most of the steps and already sketching girls and outfits. Instead of bookmarking pages in books I wrote notes on a piece of paper the main concept brief but when I began looking at pics of birds I just started drawing already but drawing what I like like the texture and patterns like stripes, speckles, chevron stripes, spots, went a bit off brief when I got inspired by silhouettes and shapes so a few avant garde evening she can wear to charity costume ball galas but the rest is everyday wear and a couple dinner and cocktails but not ott. Having lots of fun. I really like some of your colours like some of your swatches have multiple colours in them that complement each other and look really pretty together, some look like clouds with different colours and some have horizontal stripes with different colours. Those are my favs rather than just one colour fully mixed properly. I've never made a mood board. I don't generally get messy. I normally swatch coloured pencils or create hex code colours on the computer. I don't think I've done a collage since the 90s. I wouldn't mind doing a comic book collage might be cool. Keep making videos, yes please
I love all your videos. You give lots of info. Thank you so much. You're so funny in your videos and that makes me keep watching. Please keep doing videos about Fashion.
Something that might work with gluing down tracing paper without the warping might be glue pens instead of a traditional glue stick, although I've never tried it with tracing paper before I'd assume a finer tip and less glue on the paper wouldn't warp it as much. (Although with regular copy paper and thicker paper it has worked like a charm for me, it's also great for sticking down small things) Loving this series and it's great to watch your process like this, feeling inspired to try my hand at my own collage/moodboard now :D
Love the content and how you keep it real, zoe! So, I know that this is a unisex collection and everything, but I just wanted to bring up the theme of pocket equality -- please think about putting pockets of useful sizes in the collection, should you choose to design clothes with pockets. Nothing is more painful than finding a beautiful article of clothing that has dreadfully small pockets!!! Love your work so much! 4:38 was so relateable. Also, your color theory videos are bomb and I am so glad I started using CMYK instead of RYB. So much prettier. And the purples are to die for! Thanks!
There's an app called Free Prints, it works so good, so cheap (sometimes even free) send them want you want to print and they'll print it out and send it to you
Haha, we used to have to buy the royal talens gouache in secondary school! They're a Dutch brand and pretty cheap here in Belgium. That being said, I think they're quite ok to paint with. (Not that I've used a lot of other brands of gouache tho)
Glue sticks are messy for sure....try out the UHU UHU brand glue stick.....it’s smaller in diameter and seems less messy....love your teaching style...mraz
omg omg ooomg lool you know i bought a sketch book since last year but didnt want to touch it untill you do something like this so ill get a direction on how to use it an now finally its heeere thaaanks zoe ur da best ever love you ill keep followin u on twitter an stick u hahahaha to becom great designer loool
Hi Zoe!! Actually I'm preparing a portfolio for university admission in Dubai and I have no clue about Fashion designing at all, like I don't know even the ABC of it. I really want you to make a video for the students like me and please include the suggestions for university selection, how to survive first year, the things we are going to experience, how to make a portfolio from a very beginning (show some examples step by step), interview questions, how to be inspired by a picture. But please explain it in very easy language because whenever I listen to you, I'm really inspired but 95 percent of the things you say are literally difficult for me to understand at this point.. one more thing, please make the video as soon as possible because I'm traveling for university in a week or 10 days. Anyway thanks for being such an inspiration...
no one can teach you how to be inspired by something. if you cant find inspiration in every day things then maybe an art career is not the right fit for you?
Zoe, I've watched so many of your videos and let's be real... I can't draw to save my life. Is it ok for me to do my entire portfolio in illustrator, or would an employer not hire me bc I can't sketch?
Every company is different but unless the job listing specifically requests someone who can sketch by hand, you should be ok. It's really all about flats anyway.
To make images, colors, shapes, play, experiment, create new combinations that will eventually turn into inspiration for new textile designs, garment silhouettes, and decorative motifs.
Hey hey party people! Don't forget to give this video a thumbs up if you want me to continue this series!
Zoe Hong Please continue, whilst I'm not pursuing a career in the Textiles industry, it's helpful for my GCSE! (UK tests for 16 year olds).
Please Zoe keep going!! I´m learning a lot

Zoe Hong can you explain why are you creating color swatch if the color inspiration for collection are from gems and rocks
Goodbye perfectionism, Play is definitely what I’ve been missing in my designs. Thank you for inspiring us.

I think it's important to have creative outlets especially if we don't get enough at work. Have fun with your projects!

this is so so helpful and I m doing all of my color charts like this from now on I love the idea of the black lines on the back. Thanks
make sure the paper's not too thick that you can't see the lines! hahaha~
Lovvvvveee this series ! Lots of love
I really like how you did your colour story and the echoing on the patterns in the collage

YO, I'm all about the pockets. Most of my students know about OPERATION: POCKETS IN ALL THE THINGS, my personal crusade I've campaigning for years.
Pockets though...I am totally in for joining the crusade.
Still knitting, still watching -- loving this! :D
Mad props--I'm the worst knitter ever. :D
I think this is really helpful for me, cause my instructor always say that I am too overthinking. Sometimes simple is just enough.

Z, maybe you can try spray adhesive as opposed to a glue stick? Just thinking out loud🤔
I'd love to find one that sprays very small amounts with a very small spray diameter.
did you go-to school for fashion design? I'm thinking about taking some classes in college
Yes, I have a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design.
I use photo glue for paper that curls easily. works like a charm
thanks for the tip!
Amazing 😭
Zoe, I've watched so many of your videos and let's be real... I can't draw to save my life. Is it ok for me to do my entire portfolio in illustrator, or would an employer not hire me bc I can't sketch?
Every company is different but unless the job listing specifically requests someone who can sketch by hand, you should be ok. It's really all about flats anyway.
There are non wrinkle glue sticks, i got mine at the craft/art store
What printer did you use to scan and print the images? I am going to get one too.
I have a Canon MG7720. Excellent printer but I'm not sure I love the scanning capabilities.
What is the purpose of this collage?
To make images, colors, shapes, play, experiment, create new combinations that will eventually turn into inspiration for new textile designs, garment silhouettes, and decorative motifs.
It looks crazy! No sense to me
use a scrapbooking tape roler they look lick corecton tape could wor beter then the glue stick
