Zoe Hong thank you so much Zoe! I am definitely gonna buy these later this week. I would be so thankful if you could please post male templates! Please, please do so. I learned to draw flats on 1:4 scale. So you could measure the flat drawing to make the patterns. Great video. I will buy your flat template for my projects. Thank you.
Here’s something interesting: while shopping for thrift store books one day, came across some Japanese plain covered and in 3 different coloured, pattern books. I was fascinated with them but alas, I didn’t speak the language and at the time, was actually into using books to make my own custom books and couldn’t decide to pay the couple dollars for the set of 3. But got home and they kept popping up in my mind and looked them up- WoW 😲- kinda cool and collectible but extremely useful books. So I immediately went back to the store, fingers crossed 🤞that they’d still be there and they were, and on sale for less a buck each. Picked them up and shelved them- since I knew they’re good for learning basic pattern skills and worth a little.
I would love to see more about drawing flats. In my school book they are called Pattern schemas, but nothing came up when I tried to search for that here on youtube. I need to figure out how to draw a cardigan type top like right now as I have a school project that is due tomorrow. So having some more videoes about this for future help would be amazing. Your videoes on illustration has been so helpfull, can see so mutch more improvment from my drawings after watching them vs just looking at picturs in the school book and of clothes in simular shapes.
Wow. Thank for your vids. I am not trained or anything but do see an have made a bunch of dresses and jacket and learned not to draw line through the Apex by looking at other designs. You're vid is very informative, helpful. Thank you
AHHHHHHHHH!!! I’m overwhelmed with excitement because I have been trying to figure out what flats are in depth! My sewing teacher keeps pointing me at Vogue’s flats/blocks but I’m a beautiful trans-feminine woman 🧑🏻😅 so I need to figure out how to make my own
this was verrrry helpful i’m thinking about applications and flats were in the portfolio requirements and i had no clue what they were thank you for enlightening me!
Having an old school graphic design/print production background, I would be inclined to three hole punch the patterns and three hole punch 8 1/2 x 11 tissue. This way you can pin register them. I hope the 1/4" registration pins are still available.
i really want to go to a perfomring arts college and study the fashion designing program, ofc i needed practice, and ur vid helped me out so much!! thanks, and now u have a new subscriber lol
Omg this is Genius! I'm so buying it (I'm the one who bought your entire Etsy shop lol). Btw in my beginnings I was doing front darts that ended at the bust apex. I learned it was wrong... the hard way 😂😂

Hey Zoe, I want to ask your opinion on Gerber for pattern making. Do you think it's necessary to take a class to learn how to use this program? Is there ways to study and learn it on your own? What are the pros and cons of a pattern computed aided program like this? ..so many questions I have but don't want to bombard you, lol. I'm not sure if you have a video on this subject already.
It depends on what kind of learner you are and if you can find a course online. The other barrier is to learn it on your own, you have to buy the software. Most clothing categories are moving to digital methods so if you want a career in patternmaking, you're chances of getting hired is better the more programs you know.
Hi Zoe, I absolutely love your videos, I’m a beginner and your videos are very helpful. What is a recommendation on dress form that are one size VS adjustable dress form ? And if you have any recommendation where to get them. Btw I already purchased the flats tramples.
I don't like adjustable forms. There are too many areas you can't pin, like where the plastic adjusting disks are, and the gaps between panels. Alvanon forms are the best but the most expensive. You can find used ones on ebay. The rest are all pretty similar to each other. PGM, Wolf, etc.

Darts are not about design. Darts are about fit, so you choose the darts depending on how you want a garment to fit the body.
