I've seen some Japanese drivers using an interesting modification that extends the stock steering wheel buttons. They position these extensions behind the wheel, similar to how some automatic shifters are located. I think it would be a fantastic mod to see you try, as it would allow using the buttons even with a quick-release steering wheel.
