    I heard that you shouldn't put them in the water like this because they drown inside the egg casing. Put them on some styrofoam and float the clutch until they start coming out themselves. Im sure you lost quite a few to drowning.

    I found a pair of small but long (they were hard to remove for that reason) clutches of eggs on my tank a few weeks ago and moved them to a plastic container with a ball of wet tissue in there. I spent about 4 days researching the best setups on how to hatch them, only for all of them to hatch just after 4 days or so. When i opened the container there were tiny snails all over. Now I've got 160 1/3 cm snails in a tank haha.

    Next time break the clutch up, don't just dump the clutch in the water, that's a good way to drown most of the clutch. Unless that's what you were intending.

    Raising baby Mystery Snails is a lot of fun! I never planned to do this, it just happened.
    While I lost quite a bit in a failed attempt to move them to another tank (I've since successfully moved the rest to another tank), I've got like 80 left that are various sizes. I've got like 10 that are almost the size of a 5 cent coin now.
    I've got a pet store that is willing to take them too.
    Meanwhile, my mother snail (called Dio), keeps laying more egg sacks. But they all seem to be duds that don't hatch anymore...

  • @luci_datum
    @luci_datum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In case anyone is going to do this, if you want a higher success rate you should swish them. This is the process of gently breaking apart the eggs so they don't drown in them, as can happen on occasion. But they're super cute, and im so happy to see this process!

    The whole start is missing from your “start to finish”? My snails currently lay a clutch on the underside of the lid. It dries out and never turns grey - where was yours found? How did you move it? At the end it’s implied they went to a plastic container - what was done to it while in there?

    If a bit confused on how to like incubate do well first as soon as the hatch is like there do you take it out and put it in a humid container? And if you do,do you put a lid on it? How do I make it humid? Do I just use a little more than warm water and spray it in the container and put it in a warm area then put paper in the middle to hold the eggs? I’m sorry I just have many questions hope you reply soon or just any one that knows this because I had an egg clutch before and I waited for almost a whole month and there was no changes to the clutch... I’m sorry if this made anyone mad I didn’t know what to do and I was a beginner so I was panicking so yeah again please anyone explain

    How/where did you keep the box (?) in which they were brooding/incubating/growing? I'm on my last 2 snails out of 5 after a year and a half, and i got them to finally mate! They're actually mating right now, so I'll be watching for the clutch to be laid. I was going to put them in a partly open ziploc with tank water dampened paper towels on top of my computer for warmth and humidity.

    • @DowntheWormHole

    I have 1 mystery snail. I just took something out of my tank that looked exactly like this. But with only 1 snail, I fail to see how they would be viable.

      It could have been that your snail could have retained Sperm from her previous partner. Just incubate then for a week or two and if nothing happened just throw it out or keep it I guess

    My mom went to the river and caught a freshwater snail, ive tried searching for what type it is but i just cant seem to find it! It laid a batch of eggs idk if its asexual or was fertilized before my mom caught it. The eggs are now about 4 days old a d theres tiny little snails in them the eggs are clear , they seem to be doing fine underwater so far. I still want to know if theres anything else i can do for them???

    Help! I have 2 mystery snails, one ive had for month and then the second one i just recently got. Literally the next day i found 3 microscopic baby mystery snails. I looked around the tank i did not find any eggs or anything like that….Just 3 baby snails…..
    Can someone explain how this could have been possible? Would the babies have somehow travelled from the pet store with the snail? Is that even possible? How can my snail have laid 3 eggs and hatched in one night?? Im at a loss for words…

      I had a clutch suddenly hatch today that I left stuck to the glass. The adults were below the clutch. I don't know if they ate the babies as they hatched or not. 😢 I wasn't sure if it was hatching or got eaten by the adults or got damaged somehow. I came back after an hour or so and the clutch was all broken and gone with the adults below it... 😲

      for sure! they will hatch out fine if the mom put them in a good location, if you dont want any babies they pop off the glass easily

      how many snails do you have? are they changing colors at all? maybe you only have females and they are infertile.

    I have only one mystery snail and I've had her for probably 6 months. This morning I looked in my tank and there is a clump of eggs at the top of the tank. Can they be viable eggs? Do they need to mate to reproduce?

    • @DowntheWormHole
      @DowntheWormHole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They need a buddy to have babies for sure. it is not uncommon for a happy well feed girl to lay some eggs.

    I am patiently waiting for my mystery snail eggs to hatch. I have left them in the tank where they were laid. When I notice they are starting to hatch, should I move the clutch into a breeding box that is kept there in the tank? Is that what you did? I don’t want my platys to eat them.

    • @DowntheWormHole
      @DowntheWormHole  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I moved mine into the breeder box as they were hatching. they get food easier and are safe from fish and tank cleaning. best of luck to you!

      Most fish dont like snails, just too crunchie. their biggest problem is finding food when they are that small.

    Is it possible for a female mystery snail to stop being fertile? My snail laid eggs once, hatched, and 2 survived from the clutch. But all eggs laid after that hasn’t hatched, she’s laid maybe 4 clutches. She doesn’t have a male in the tank currently, but I hope from the clutch that hatched one of them will be a male and mate with her

    • @DowntheWormHole
      @DowntheWormHole  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      she may have had some left over sperm from the shop for that one clutch, she will need a male to make any more viable eggs. great question!

  • @NatesOutdoors
    @NatesOutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Alright I'm gonna ask a stupid question, I read somewhere that you can't touch them,cause they contain a neurotoxin,and one egg can kill you lol? How true is this,plus I just seen you touch them and your fine,so I'm just curious has anyone else heard this,and congratulations mine has already had 2 clutches

    People post about incubating them but nobody talks about how or when to get them back in the water! Now I know, when it's been a bit and it's starting to get soft again... would it be weird for me to put my clutch (in a lil container with wet paper towels) under my gecko's baking light? Not sure if it needs heat or extra help staying moist during the incubation. Any comments? Just came home today to eggs on the wall... and I guess correctly to who they belonged to haha

    • @DowntheWormHole
      @DowntheWormHole  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like you are starting an adventure. they dont need the extra light but do need to be warm. the container should get some moisture on the side but no water in the bottom. you got this!

      Yes. Poke some holes in the top to let out extra humidity and just float it in your tank
