Love all these perfumes. Natural perfumes are the way to go. My only issue is so many perfume brands like to appear to be natural when in fact they are using a certain percentage of synthetics to round off their perfume. Which they label as *safe synthetics ... but they are still synthetics. This is what Lush does, AYU and so on. It’s deceptive and therefore they can’t be called natural perfumes.
I understand the topic you presented. I want to just mention one important thing, namely the allergies are very personal. One natural oil/product does not automatically and necessarily cause an allergic reaction to everyone.
Sterols strengthen cell walls and stuff like that. You find sterols in plant oils (essential oils), the plant components in natural perfume will enhance the functionality and physicallity of the body and is as medicinal as cellery could be. If my body works better my senses are stronger I feel sharper, my exertions amount to more I get more whitty. The other stuff is hard to sit with and smell since I get a sickness from them, my experience was that it was just that with givanci gentlemen (a fave) I wanted to pick out the scents (lavinder, vanilla, black pepper) and while smelling the smell for like 45 seconds I got sick feeling interestingly whent back to the clary sage I was doing the same for (fruity, minty, earthy, balsamic, root) and the sicknes whent away while I was smelling the sage and i smelled that sage for almost a few minutes and I felt better even. Idk I want the sage type stuff which is what naturals are. The thing is givanci pie tho am I right? It's so good it's great and i have abused a lot and I am fine, oddly i known i am stronger from my root oils and stuff lol. Some naturals last all day with a few swipes like bay leaf and labdinum stuff and much more honestly outlasting synthetics even and my sweat gets a bit of a yum factor.
Hi! I love perfume and smells in general and lately must gravitate towards naturals or high percentage natural ingredients. Hiram Green, Papillon perfumery, Lush are my favourites and planning to try Teone Reinthal. I don’t have allergies but modern niche and mainstream often bother me and smell strongly chemical/unpleasant to me, which I see is not common ( at least in active fragrance ‘community’ members/perfume lovers) but happens to some people too from what I have read, including in this community. I don’t know if it is one very pervasive molecule the culprit for me or many (declared iso-e super heavy perfumes always make me anosmic and get just strong band aid/ disinfectant smell and queasiness). Interestingly more vintage formulas as in classic Chanels or Guerlains don’t bother me. I think the aromachemical industry explosion that controls most perfume synthetics is doing something very commonly it didn’t before. The issue of the tons of synthetics eg musks used to scent everything (like detergents) and its environmental impact is another issue to consider when talking about this, I don’t think they have studied many aroma chemicals in this sense and many bioaccumulate in the echo systems and animal tissues including us.
Good call, Josephine! You broached the subject: "natural vs synthetic". If Ormaine Le Passant has a passing resemblance to Caron pour Un Homme, then it definitely goes on my wishlist --delightful lavender. Thanks again.
I love how you talked about natural vs synthetic and called out the bs. I didn't know the "toxic free" movement was also taking over the fragrance industry too :o , the skincare world is riddled with fear mongering I didn't know it would follow me here to the fragrance community 😩😂
Concerns about synthetics *are* justified, and for a very simple to understand reason: there are *zero* long-term studies on the effects of absorbing synthetic chemicals through the skin, into the bloodstream. There are theories that suggest they could be one of the primary causes of countless problems; after all, they aren't native to our biology at all, and you can sure as heck bet they are not "supplemental" to it. They're far more likely to be read as toxins than as nutrients once internalized.
"Riddled with fear mongering," just as it should be. What she didn't cover above is that you're putting synthetics on your skin. Where do you think they go from there? You don't know, and no one does, because studies on it are pretty rare, and do you ever wonder why? These are patented chemicals. A huge gravy train for the creators and entire supply chain. Anything you put on your skin has the potential to get into your bloodstream and do who-knows-what to your biology. With quadruple the number of synthetics and low cost, this makes them ubiquitous in our environment. Put magnesium chloride on your skin, or any medical patch, and you're getting chemical injections into your biology. It is speculated that *countless* ailments could be due to aromachemicals alone that are sprayed on the skin. Again, we don't know due to the lack of studied, but common sense screams that "of course" they're causing problems. *Anything* synthetic that enters the body is treated as a "toxin" by the body and the whole detoxification process (liver, etc) has to deal with it. That burden is now huge thanks to these synthetics everywhere. And in my opinion, it is beyond foolish to put these chemicals on the skin having no idea what they're doing to you internally. People have every right to poison themselves, I have no problem with that. But lets not delude ourselves in the process.
Great topic! (I am not against synthetics. Either I like the fragrance or not.) I adore "Hiram Green" fragrances. The scents are all natural and still perform great!
As always a joy to watch you Josephine! Great content which is educational. Absolutely Loved it. I learn something new every time I watch your video ❤️ keep rocking!
Love it! I'm starting to have some concerns about this whole fragrance week thing though You have us hooked. What happens after? You'll leave us to deal with severe withdrawal symptoms.
Great video Josephine, you covered it very well. Thank you for highlighting especially the sustainability & allergens issues. It's one of my pet peeves is when people promote for natural options that are actually not better for us or the environment. I like my food all natural, all organic, and that's about it
Hi Josephine! I understand the allergy part. But what about the toxicity? Or the potential cancer inducing factor? There has been some debate on that too and I am curious to learn more. Thanks in advance for your answer! Keep up the good work!
Hi Josephine, Thanks a lot for your very informative video. It was very great. I have heard that we shouldn’t spray fragrances on the skin, because the ingredients affect our hormones. If you know anything about that, please make a video.🙏
No problem. All brands need to abide to IFRA regulations before they can launch a product. If you'd like to know more definitely check out IFRA's website: ifrafragrance.org/ Hope this helps!
It's great to learn more about some of these , I've only tried rose jam and 1000 kisses deep. That was a great and well balanced discussion on natural vs synthetic ingredients ☺ April aeromatics is my favourite all natural brand , and calling all angels by her is sensational 👌 Wearing urban musk by tom ford today. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for making this video - jihuu!💥🙏now I understand much more what it is about. You are so good at explaining straight forward and really interesting✨✨👌 Got to check out the Ormaie 'Le Passant', sounds so beautiful!!💜
Very interesting informative videos! Can you please make a video about fragrance storing and using issues, such as "new bottle syndrome", weird inconsistent performance from the same bottle, fragrance storage environment and expiration, different batches of perfumes etc.
Such an interesting topic again. I agree natural isn't always best and I guess we need to keep in mind where all the ingredients come from. I have been tryin April-Aromatics which are naturals and they are really incredible, but at first was a shock to my nose as they don't smell like what you'd expect and that's probably beautiful I'm so used to synthetic notes, which isn't a bad thing just they can be quite different. And I tried my first Lush recently too Fresh As. And again that's so lovely and natural
Jus de Rose That’s cool, it’s a nice little necklace! Also thank you for your great videos! Idk if you prerecorded these (which would make sense imo) but it really shows your enthusiasm and passion for fragrance to have this series!
Great video Dear, to me it's incredible how by mere sniffing comparison, a natural perfume seem to undeniably have more realism and naturalness then any synthetic counterpart, and I don't mean it just ideologically feeling good... like my whole sensory experience comes alive and welcomes the natural compounds. I think 15 percent of people are allergic to certain types of natural essential oils... but im pretty sure a bigger majority of people will feel more repulsed by inhaling continuously a synthetic perfume, versus a natural one. Consider aromatherapy you know? i don't think there is Syntheticaromatherapy out there ;) anyways... just my thoughts, as a natural perfumer. Pros and Cons for sure, and you did a great job laying them out. bisou - Joe
you dont actually think there is ambergris or musk in you perfume do you ? I learned about natural vs synthetic by learning about Castorium. Castorium is a "Natural flavor" that is used to simulate the flavors of Vanilla and Caramel in food and drinks. It is considered natural but it does not come from plants- it comes from the scent gland of a beaver. Something else about Synthetic ingredients is that they also have a longer shelf life. Perfumes are said to expire in 36 months whereas synthetics are not as volatile and do not oxidate as quickly.
O yes, natural perfumes can be very different and beautiful, I've tried April Aromatics, Bravanariz, Hiram Green, Ortigia Sicilia and I hope I will have chance to try House of Matriarch one day (due to the price and availability). I am @jozziejones on instagram and I live in EU
@@jusderose Ani is ginger sweet woody, heavy on vanilla. It has slight similarity with PdM Layton only on the opening notes. The best part of Ani is its sillage, it's very heavenly & addictive, can't stop smelling it, and luckily it's beast mode on my skin. Nishane has excellent range line of fragrances. Currently I have Ani, Hacivat (beast mode freshie), Wulong Cha (very soothing tea+fig combo), Ambra Calabria. Maybe I'll add Sultan Vetiver to my wishlist. Hopefully you have the chance to try & review Nishane fragrances.

They are still allowed to use real animal musk? Which fragrances?
I believe no brand should be using animal derived musk but to be checked on IFRA...
