    Hello, i stumbled across your channel by accident. You got a great channel here. I am thinking of getting shp 9500. I currently own hd 598 SR(special edition successor). I love it, the soundstage, vocals, i think the bass is just fine. I tried out hd 650 and hd 599 in sennheiser store and didnt like them at all, i found they lacked soundstage and refinement(for a lack of better term.). Maybe it was the lack of burn in. I noticed mine had tremendously improved after burn in (playing white noise through them at medium volume for a few nights ). I havent found any video on youtube comparing shp9500 and hd 598. So this is a request(if you have time). Thank you.

      Hey man! The 9500 is going to provide very good Soundstage. Perhaps not quite as good as a 598, but very close in my opinion. I love both for Gaming. The 9500 will be a true upgrade as far as I'm concerned. I like the 598, but find it kind of clammy and bloaty sounding at times. Like there's this blanket of goo over the sound. It also doesn't scale well with amps and sounds fuzzy and distorted when you try to get some volume going.
      The 598 is sort of a niche headphone in that it works extremely well for low key acoustic, jazz, classical and softer stuff at lower volumes, but not very good for anything else though I did enjoy it with certain EDM, Hip-Hop. It really just depends. Kind of hit and miss.
      The 9500 is more airy and detailed to me. It's definitely a crisper sound. I think you'll like the bass more. It does roll off but I really enjoy the intricacy and nuance of it. Mid-range on both is very good. You'll find that the 9500 does have a peak in the lower treble/upper mid-range that's become the subject of hot debate on this channel over the last couple of years. It does sound slightly metallic but I can forgive that esp. given how amazing the headphone sounds for the price.
      Build is better on the 9500 and comfort is hard to say. The 9500 really feels like air and is very comfortable, but the 598 is still one of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I would say it's about even. It's just that they both feel a bit different when they're on your head. Not that one is necessarily better than the other.
      Let me know if that helps and please keep me posted on your decision!

    Hey Stu! I took out the locking mechanism so I could plug in a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter for my V-Moda BoomPro mic. I use them primarily for Xbox gaming driven by a MixAmp Pro TR.
    I agree with another commenter that these don't handle metal well. Also, they don't sound great on an amp with high output impedance like my AV receiver.
    Anyways, great video dude! Thanks for the mention! Let's talk soon!

    @Home Studio Basics, hey Stu I just wanted to say that my HD58X finally arrived and you were right, the SHP9500 are damn close to the Sennheiser 6 family (fuck you Philips again). Anyway the HD58x feels like a more refined SHP, mids are a little better and more intimate, there more bass (sub-bass I mean, the HD58X can produce this bass impact when needed) and my favorite thing, there is no sibilance at all in the highs and the HD58X highs don't lack in any way compared to the SHP9500 (I was afrad they would be too dark).
    What shocked me at first is that the Sennheiser is much smaller than I expected or the SHP9500 are too big, I think the SHP9500 is a little more comfortable, the pads are shallower but bigger and there is less clamp (yes I did the thing to remove the crazy clamp in the HD58X I think I like the 0 clamp from the SHP9500).
    Makes me wonder if upgrading even more is worth it, someday something like a Sundara, AEON, LCD for example because altough I like the HD58X the improvement wasn't that crazy. Anyway thanks for making me buy the SHP9500 they really are impressive and under all that hype I see a very very good design by Philips flaws being lack of sub-bass and some sibilance, now that I can compare a Sennheiser and a Philips I can say by myself that they are really close indeed.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow nice man! Been hearing a lot about the 58X lately. Would love to get a pair for demo. I think in your future an upgrade would be worth it. Some items to consider are def: HIFIMAN Sundara/Ananda, LCD-X (or anything from that line really), MrSpeakers Aeon Closed (or open). Haven't tried the opens yet but my God the closed are probably some of the best closed back headphones I've heard.
      Was disappointed to hear about Philips discontinuing the 9500's but I'm sure they'll be back at some point. Look out for an SR850 review in a few minutes!

    I have the Senni HD 598 se, the Superlux HD 681, HD 330 and the Tribit XFree Tune (and some others, not so good ones). To be honest, I like the sound of both Superlux and the Tribit more.
    The Senni has an unnatural wide soundstage and it cant't handle higher volumes proberly.
    You should give the Tribit a try ("Tune" or "Go"). Sounds amazing for a 30 euro BT headphone!

    Review for 598HD
    Everyone says that we need to do mod for ( having more bass to change the sound quality ). I would say if you don't like the sound signature of the Sennheiser headphones. And you are keeping it in a shelf for a really long time OR ready to throw it away now itslef after realizing it's not that really worth for that much of hype they have given through reviews, comments., Etc. Give it a last chance to try after remove all the white coloured papers on the outer diaphragm. Which means usually to damp the sound they will use the white coloured paper above the transducer or driver except the cone area. So what we have to do is. We have to remove the white coloured paper which is pasted over the diaphragm. Once you did on the both side(left and right ) of the headphone. Those who complaint there is lack of bass. They will come to know to enjoy the music we no need to have that much of bass. where usually all the other headphones have.( take note , am also enjoy the amount of bass which is produced by JBL speakers/subs, which usually can achieve 34hz frequency range ). And you can see how there is an increase in spatial cue's / It produce a bit of more environmental sound, means you can feel the atmosphere changing when the actors moving from one room to another room ( though don't expect too much as surround sound effects ). Though sound is subjective, I think you can try it before give it up. Last but not least it will change the sound signature to somewhat enjoyable. I get to try this option, because I saw a TH-cam video where they go through the industrial visit of Sennheiser company in Germany. There they are actually testing the dynamic capability of all there transducer to produce the required frequency / sound signature "with the entire driver, not just with the cone exposed". If it works for at least one person am very happy. Enjoy guys.... ( th-cam.com/users/shorts_6-FCbFj9tI?feature=share ).

  • @CKT1138
    @CKT1138 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the bass rolloff + distortion is a sad reality for open backs with more breathable pads, my SHP's get kinda crunchy at higher volumes, because a lot of that low end escapes into the air through the padding. That's why a lot of pad swaps make them VERY bassy, they're tuned for a very porous material with loose stitched cloth.
    BTW I should be making my TinAudio video soon, after that I'll hit you up with an email so you can demo them!

      My HD58X just arrived, I have to say they really have sub-bass (not much, but it's really there), stock is close, if not better than even my SHP9500 using EQ with something crazy like +8db in sub-bass.

  • @L0nkero
    @L0nkero 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I dont completely agree with the "dark treble", ive always found HD 598 relatively bright sounding compared to other Sennheisers but definition of "bright" is quite subjective after all. I have to give them a listen today.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Let me know what you think again. I never hear that hiss like I do with other headphones.

    • @L0nkero

      @@HomeStudioBasics They are warm tilted but not dark to me, "brighter side of warm" i would say. Brighter than HD 650 but everything is, lol. Havent tried HD 600 but based on graphs probably brighter than them as well.
      I still like these but they cant handle all genres i listen to that well. They work like a charm for rock, pop, acoustics, vocals etc. but sound too soft or "fuzzy" for metal and lack a bit punch for hip hop and electronics. Ive been planning to sell these but they have almost too much sentimental value so im not sure do i dare to. :(

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah def not a perfect headphone but I think your impressions are mostly in line with mine. The only thing I think we disagree a bit about is the treble it still mostly sounds about the same as a 650 or 600's treble in my opinion. I would honestly never call them bright in any capacity but that's just me. I'm planning on selling most of my headphones too I'll probably make an updates video about it soon. 850 video is done, I think you'll find it amusing. I mention you lol.
