I just downloaded the anniversary edition for $18 from Steam. I haven’t played this game in 10 years and for $18. This will keep me busy until GTA VI comes out. I understand everyone’s frustration with the updates that wrecks the mods, but they tell you specifically to only use mods at your own risk. All I’ve seen this last month is a bunch of whiny people not understanding what they were told.

I'm in my 50s, and have been playing since its release. Recently started my 4th (i think) play-through. Still love it! I totally enjoyed the Witcher 3 - and while the writing may be better in the Witcher (more depth, more emotional pull) ultimately you're playing as Geralt, and all the quests seem to have a very well-defined path you must follow. Whereas with Skyrim - the feeling of personal agency the player has is unlike any other game i've played.
I’m 52 and I recently went back to Skyrim with mods on my Series X and I’m loving it. It’s one of my all time favourite games. I still remember back when it first released in 2011. Queued up at the midnight opening back in my home town.
Skyrim also gave me a close enough game making/testing experience as i tried to merge 1000+ mods into it and testing them till i made sure everything worked. No game tastes better than the one you cook for your own taste.
Really wonderful video! After almost exactly 1 year of playing ESO exclusively, I returned to Skyrim and said, “why did I ever leave this game?”. And I’m 64 years old! I got tired of ESO’s glitches requiring me to abandon the quest I’d spent 2 hours on and having to start over hoping it wouldn’t glitch this time.
i didn't realize that i was a veteran for skyrim until i looked at my overall hours spent in this game on my steam, on LE i have over 8,000 hours in this game, and on special edition, i have slightly over 2,000 hours, together it's roughly 10,000 hours, and i'm not even counting the xbox 360 when i was first introduced to this game. currently i'm not playing skyrim, i have been playing FO4 recently though and i'm always being drawn back to skyrim even when playing and enjoying FO4.
The game that never seems to get old! I've recently started up another play through, and checked my play time, its at 107 days. I absolutely love that they added mod support to console!

I would recommend installing a modpack, Like nolvus or redux, we showcased nolvus in our latest remakes video, you can check it out there, its really something!
I'm getting it tomorrow on steam, I heard it's bad mainly because it broke after a update. Do you think I should still get the game, it's only 10 bucks
Dude nolvus ascension is a better game than any other rpg i can find on the market right now, and its literally a mod pack for skyrim. The graphics are amazing, the movesets are amazing, the immersion, characters, everything. You wont find a better game out there right now Modding is the future. Modders have created a better game than the actual game itself
here is the issue though, it's bethesda turning people off of their games because they want to make an endless amount of money off of the modding scene, i have seen many other veterans like myself who are walking away from the game simply because the ever encroaching of Bethesda's monetization scheme going on with their older titles, either people are going back to Skyrim LE or they will be going to GOG for all of their bethesda game needs or they just leave the game entirely, which i don't want to see because i love the modding scene and want it to continue.
yeah people make fun of me when it comes to bethesda games, they often point out the buggy mess that this engine is capable of, and i do agree with many of what they say but i have seen this game run smoothly when i have all the right mods and everything is set up correctly. some people just play a game for it's graphics and though i like good graphics as well, i don't think they are the main priority in a game, they are like an added on bonus to a game but they should never be the priority of the game developer's, the main priority is to make the game fun, and something you want to come back to over and over. a good story also helps with a good atmosphere and a good lore base community that spans ages, elder scrolls lore is timeless lore that you can never get the full picture on because it's surrounded by all these amazing theories and the developer's never really help in that regard because the game has it's mysteries and that's perfect for a game like this. allowing the player to have wonder and mystery and to speculate story elements to lore based things are a wonderful thing and the modding community also helps shape that lore into some other more interesting things in the game that make it very addictive for the player to want to come back.
The graphics are fine. Its no different than some early NES games as an extreme opposite comparison they are outdated by 30 years yet hold on to their charm and aged like fine wine. The only thing that really shows and its main fault is the combat system which feels extremely outdated and clunky but it works and id argue dont fix what isnt broken. For that reason it will he timeless
Skyrim is still one of the best games out there. I'm currently playing it on PS3, as that's the only platform I don't have all the trophies. I don't use mods. But saying Skyrim is still one of the best games, is that a credit to how good Skyrim was or how shitty modem gaming is? To me, I've just given up on modern gaming. Time vampires, wealth extraction vehicles, always online always being spied on. Don't like it! I only buy games PS2 and older for these reasons and more. But, Skyrim? I've always got a character going. It's like the peak of gaming to me. The best game before it all went to shit IMO.
i agree in many ways, i never played the game on the PS3 but i did start on my old ass 360 back in the day and i still feel this game holds up today, and your right it's not as much as a time vampire i mean it sort of is, but not like modern games are as they do it to make more money instead of for the fun of a game. if my PC died right now and i only had my old ass 360 to play the game i would play that in a heartbeat.
@@5226-p1e there's a difference between a game that sucks away your time and a game you actually want to spend time with. I played 360,Xbone,PS4 and now PS3. Been playing this game since it came out. And due to the trends of modern gaming, that's it. I'm not buying a new console (PS5 or whatever current Xbox is) and I only buy games PS2 and older.
Don't give up Dovahkiin! I'm sure you will find your path again .A hassle with 1170- but in few weeks (usually less than one month)-thanks to some great modders -all is up again.
You forgot the heaps of lore The Elder Scrolls have ammassed over decades. In that sense it's easier to get lost in the world of Tamriel and add even more to your roleplay since you can follow on stuff from lore as flavor. For absolute lore nerds like me the huge historical world makes Skyrim even more fascinating.
I do not really agree on the graphical part i think the game is really pretty vanilla, the main "problem" is the technology like the old LOD or some mechanic that start to feel old
i think the animations are jank and very limited vanilla, but i do agree the graphical part when it comes to the sky the clouds rendering that all looked great and still does to this day, however the models textures and the animations are very dated. the funny thing that often enters into my mind, recently i have been playing FO4 and i enjoy the game but i often feel like the game is very limited when it comes to combat, like in skyrim you could use both hands one with a shield and the other a staff, and i often wonder why i can't hold some kind of shield and also hold my gun at the same time in this game, that would be proffered if it was at all possible, unfortunately it's not quite possible, the only thing i have been able to do to sort of replicate this is using the shield mod, and that's an ok mod but it's a bit annoying that you can only hold the shield and not be able to use your gun at the same time. it just felt like bethesda downgraded themselves in FO4 in that regard and the melee combat is so damn limited as well, like yuck it's really bad and should have been much better, but i get it, this game is mostly about gun play just like starfield which is why the melee combat is dogshit in that game as well, i mean they should be capable of doing both options, like maybe the rifle guns should be 2 handed but the pistole guns should have a shield to be held or possible both guns have the option depending on how they use the corresponding button while in combat, i mean somehow they managed to make your pip-boy have 2 uses for the same button, your light and opening the pip-boy, they could do something like this for the other buttons as well if they wanted, i'm mostly talking about on the controller, but again it's possible to do and they know how to do it so switching your ability to use a shield in one hand shouldn't be that difficult. they did the same thing with your perspective when it came to a shortcut to your build menu for your settlements, if you hold down the button suddenly you will enter into the build menu without even touching your work bench.
@@5226-p1e I totally agree with you Fallout 4 and Starfield melee combat is awful and yes it's about guns but in fallout new vegas for example melee builds are so cool developed and efficient so I think they just lose interest for that kind of variety which is disappointing. There is far more possibilities and fun in Skyrim and pre-Skyrim Bethesda games.
@@bertrandflantier3837 now with all i said, not everything is bad in FO4, some things that they did in that game i also like very much, the game is mostly more stable the longer you play, it still runs into the issues of eventually slowing down the longer you play but it's more stable and less crashy than skyrim was, i also like the fact that you can save your game during dialogue situations and i also like the player voice, i know a lot of people didn't like that aspect but they pulled the voice from the player in starfield and many people outside of bethesda fans who played starfield hated that aspect because they were expecting something like the witcher 3 during dialogue sequences, anyway i like the voiced protagonist but if they took it out of the game i believe they should at the very least offer it to the players who actually want it because we do exist. a lot of the features or options in bethesda games should come down to choice for the player, if there were more choices with less restrictions set in place, the better a game will become, when the choices are restricted or held back it makes the whole experience feel bad or outdated and like bethesda is going backwards progression in their games. anyway FO4 did also make some other things better, i really do like affinity system, but i feel like they kind of downgraded possible followers when it came to dialogue through other NPC's, in skyrim you could find a follower mod and whatever NPC you choose from will at the very least have built in dialogue, but in FO4 if you force an NPC to follow you their voice sets become silent if they weren't meant to be a follower in the first place which restricts a players choice, at least give them general follower dialogue, so if i want Tina Deluca as a follower her dialogue is at least a follower, but it can't be done within the vanilla game like it does in skyrim, in skyrim you can make almost all NPC's your follower that come with their own general dialogue included so when you make them a follower via with a mod or something at least they don't go silent like they do in FO4. look i know bethesda got a lot of flak with skyrim and reused voices and that was true, but on the other hand it also offered more dialogue with other characters, so jarl balgruf was the same voice actor as many other nords in the game, and you could easily create a very unique follower with reused dialogue if you wanted to much easier than in FO4. so there are always cavoites of what was better and what was held back when it came to some of the decisions bethesda made in past games and some good features in the newer bethesda games.
@@5226-p1e I like the voiced character too but if you want variety it's not the best option because your character is reduced to a certain behavior due to the voice actor, what I mean is that there is far less role play option as in FO4, a lot of decisions and dialogues make no sense considering nate or Nora's past. Some game needs voice some don't : Baldur's gate succes is a good example. And yes Starfield could have got some voices for the main character because all the dialogue option I think are just choices and not role play (and also the fact we have less choices than previous games) Bethesda choose the easy way on that one
These 2 games are not the same, they are similar in some ways but i would say skyrim is a bit more involved than witcher. From a role playing perspective, the dragonborn can be whatever you want, but Geralt will always be Geralt, you won't play the game from another point of view.
Is Skyrim Still Worth It In 2024? No. I returned to Skyrim after many years, started gathering mods for days - retextures, patches, combo-patches, fixes, fixes for patches, fixes for fixes... and when I finally started playing I was bored after 5 minutes. After playing Witcher3, KC Deliverance, RDR2 etc etc, Skyrim is beyond obsolete even with 1000 mods. And the story was always bad, if I have to play some ancient Bethesda RPG I'd rather play Oblivion.

You wont find a better game out there right now
Modding is the future. Modders have created a better game than the actual game itself
Skyrim is just a modern classic
here is the issue though, it's bethesda turning people off of their games because they want to make an endless amount of money off of the modding scene, i have seen many other veterans like myself who are walking away from the game simply because the ever encroaching of Bethesda's monetization scheme going on with their older titles, either people are going back to Skyrim LE or they will be going to GOG for all of their bethesda game needs or they just leave the game entirely, which i don't want to see because i love the modding scene and want it to continue.
yeah people make fun of me when it comes to bethesda games, they often point out the buggy mess that this engine is capable of, and i do agree with many of what they say but i have seen this game run smoothly when i have all the right mods and everything is set up correctly.
some people just play a game for it's graphics and though i like good graphics as well, i don't think they are the main priority in a game, they are like an added on bonus to a game but they should never be the priority of the game developer's, the main priority is to make the game fun, and something you want to come back to over and over.
a good story also helps with a good atmosphere and a good lore base community that spans ages, elder scrolls lore is timeless lore that you can never get the full picture on because it's surrounded by all these amazing theories and the developer's never really help in that regard because the game has it's mysteries and that's perfect for a game like this.
allowing the player to have wonder and mystery and to speculate story elements to lore based things are a wonderful thing and the modding community also helps shape that lore into some other more interesting things in the game that make it very addictive for the player to want to come back.
Nothing can beat Skyrim. I played witcher, elden ring etc but they die off real quick..
The quests are awful.

Absolutely yes!
Never played is it good without mods . I'm downloading it now ?
We all started playing without mods, that's what everyone fell in love with. Mods add more stuff to an already good game.
"When did Skyrim 1 come out?" Lol.
2010 i think, it was about a month before 2011 or maybe it was 2011 almost 2012, it's hard to remember, just google it.
Yes!
Stopped playing after last update and broke my game. Character with certain mods I only played as gone forever
Don't give up Dovahkiin! I'm sure you will find your path again .A hassle with 1170- but in few weeks (usually less than one month)-thanks to some great modders -all is up again.
I did too but found updated load orders and playing a new character now
You forgot the heaps of lore The Elder Scrolls have ammassed over decades. In that sense it's easier to get lost in the world of Tamriel and add even more to your roleplay since you can follow on stuff from lore as flavor. For absolute lore nerds like me the huge historical world makes Skyrim even more fascinating.
I do not really agree on the graphical part i think the game is really pretty vanilla, the main "problem" is the technology like the old LOD or some mechanic that start to feel old
Install dyndolod alpha 3, should fix up that LOD just fine. Modern combat overhaul is good for giving the combat a fresh take.
i think the animations are jank and very limited vanilla, but i do agree the graphical part when it comes to the sky the clouds rendering that all looked great and still does to this day, however the models textures and the animations are very dated.
the funny thing that often enters into my mind, recently i have been playing FO4 and i enjoy the game but i often feel like the game is very limited when it comes to combat, like in skyrim you could use both hands one with a shield and the other a staff, and i often wonder why i can't hold some kind of shield and also hold my gun at the same time in this game, that would be proffered if it was at all possible, unfortunately it's not quite possible, the only thing i have been able to do to sort of replicate this is using the shield mod, and that's an ok mod but it's a bit annoying that you can only hold the shield and not be able to use your gun at the same time.
it just felt like bethesda downgraded themselves in FO4 in that regard and the melee combat is so damn limited as well, like yuck it's really bad and should have been much better, but i get it, this game is mostly about gun play just like starfield which is why the melee combat is dogshit in that game as well, i mean they should be capable of doing both options, like maybe the rifle guns should be 2 handed but the pistole guns should have a shield to be held or possible both guns have the option depending on how they use the corresponding button while in combat, i mean somehow they managed to make your pip-boy have 2 uses for the same button, your light and opening the pip-boy, they could do something like this for the other buttons as well if they wanted, i'm mostly talking about on the controller, but again it's possible to do and they know how to do it so switching your ability to use a shield in one hand shouldn't be that difficult.
they did the same thing with your perspective when it came to a shortcut to your build menu for your settlements, if you hold down the button suddenly you will enter into the build menu without even touching your work bench.
@@5226-p1e I totally agree with you Fallout 4 and Starfield melee combat is awful and yes it's about guns but in fallout new vegas for example melee builds are so cool developed and efficient so I think they just lose interest for that kind of variety which is disappointing. There is far more possibilities and fun in Skyrim and pre-Skyrim Bethesda games.

now with all i said, not everything is bad in FO4, some things that they did in that game i also like very much, the game is mostly more stable the longer you play, it still runs into the issues of eventually slowing down the longer you play but it's more stable and less crashy than skyrim was, i also like the fact that you can save your game during dialogue situations and i also like the player voice, i know a lot of people didn't like that aspect but they pulled the voice from the player in starfield and many people outside of bethesda fans who played starfield hated that aspect because they were expecting something like the witcher 3 during dialogue sequences, anyway i like the voiced protagonist but if they took it out of the game i believe they should at the very least offer it to the players who actually want it because we do exist.
a lot of the features or options in bethesda games should come down to choice for the player, if there were more choices with less restrictions set in place, the better a game will become, when the choices are restricted or held back it makes the whole experience feel bad or outdated and like bethesda is going backwards progression in their games.
anyway FO4 did also make some other things better, i really do like affinity system, but i feel like they kind of downgraded possible followers when it came to dialogue through other NPC's, in skyrim you could find a follower mod and whatever NPC you choose from will at the very least have built in dialogue, but in FO4 if you force an NPC to follow you their voice sets become silent if they weren't meant to be a follower in the first place which restricts a players choice, at least give them general follower dialogue, so if i want Tina Deluca as a follower her dialogue is at least a follower, but it can't be done within the vanilla game like it does in skyrim, in skyrim you can make almost all NPC's your follower that come with their own general dialogue included so when you make them a follower via with a mod or something at least they don't go silent like they do in FO4.
look i know bethesda got a lot of flak with skyrim and reused voices and that was true, but on the other hand it also offered more dialogue with other characters, so jarl balgruf was the same voice actor as many other nords in the game, and you could easily create a very unique follower with reused dialogue if you wanted to much easier than in FO4.
so there are always cavoites of what was better and what was held back when it came to some of the decisions bethesda made in past games and some good features in the newer bethesda games.
Facts
Will I like this game if I did't find witcher 3 any special?
Absolutely
I dont like the Witcher because i cant play as woman or create my own experience.
You are bored because you are the type of player who can't play without a specific role given to you based on the games you mentioned above..
i'm surprised you ripped other people's footage for this video lol, and erased the water mark from these other channels, i mean how lazy do you have to be not to get your own footage?
Mine CTDs when i travel, enchant, go near cities and more started when AE been getting worse evey update since
...last update killed it wont even start just saying its loading...done everything to try getting it to work every suggestion in book . Im done with it FU tod thanks for ruining an epic game.
