I love Gong Li, I love her character and the way she saved Mulan.

Honestly the villains were the best part of the movie for me, I wanted more of both of them and more scenes of them interacting with Mulan.
Gong Li as witch Villain and the Male vilain rocks in this epic master piece live action of Mulan. She never fails to impress the big screen. She also reminds me of her iconic role in Memoirs of Geisha. 👌🏻
Pretty much this is like Snow White and the huntsman where the villains were the stars of the show.

The way Gong Li speaks reminds me of her character in Memoirs of a Geisha. She was very gorgeous and dangerous at the same time. In this film she has taken her character from Geisha and turned it up to an 11. She looks absolutely gorgeous and stunning. Makes you want to fall in love with evil.
I have seen several of Gong Li's Chinese movies and she very rarely gives a bad performance. You might want to look
into Raise The Red Lantern, Farewell My Concubine.

Just finished the movie. It's a little different from the animated version, but the message was good. The dialogues between Mulan and the witch were the most impactful parts of the movie.
In this version witch was more likable than the mulan

The villains in mulan were awesome, more villainous. I was disappointed with how they made jafar in Aladdin, he didn’t even look scary. Here at least they give off that bad guy vibes and looks more threatening with their gaze. So good job mulan team!!

Btw, Mulan is of course the main character, but Xian Lang is my favorite! The scenes where she was fighting or talking to Mulan were EVERYTHING, the tension, the eye looking, the details...God I think I fell in love

Great to see Jason Scott Lee back on the big screen. He was amazing in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and of course in Soldier as well as Mowgli in the 1994 The Jungle Book film adaptation.

I read online that in the original tale of Mulan, she spent twelve years in the army and they never found out she was a girl until the very end.
They are no mulan to begin with... female soldier are not new in China, they used for desperate time

The only grip i have about the action is in the poem Mulan fought war for like 12 years, but in the movie they make it look like just one wave of invasion.

Film is too short and a bit shallow, best actor is Gong Li by far, I am reminded why I have always liked her. Its a shame she does not do more movies. They should do a follow-up movie based on Gong Li' s character and history i.e. how and why she became an outcast

It's a lot more than that. The actress of Mulan openly stated that she supports the CCP and the Hong Kong police brutality, which caused a large amount of controversy. This resulted in many people wanting to boycott the film.

Xianniang is my fave character from 21st century Disney. I really don't understand all hatred for this film, cuz she de facto is million times better than Mushu.
2nd, people saying 'witches don't exist in China la la' - well yes she has magic, but Xian wasn't based on any witch, she is based upon Raouran princess from original ballad. Princess who was in opposite clan of Mulan & who was overwhelmed when she realized M was a woman. They teamed up to defeat the villian & end war.
The princess is featured in almost all live-actions retellings of Mulan, even in 2009 Rise of a Warrior. Disney just upgraded her to far more awesome character.

I don’t think Gong Li actually speaks English. When she was filming memoirs of a geisha, it was reported she learned her lines phonetically. The same situation might have happened here.
