Thank you for reviewing this product! I’ve been looking for an honest, user review of this rangefinder for a while now...

Currently using a Sig kilo 2k and in my experience nothing has touched it. It left the Bushnell 1mile, and Leica 1600 in the dust. Farthest mansized target 1300, car at 1900, water tower at 2550 and a billboard at 3300. That said, I'm highly considering the Nikon 4k, especially after watching your excellent review. Thank you.

I remember using them old dial rangefinders where you had to line up the double-vision image to one clear image then look at the dial to read the distance. Good thing was it was cheap and didn't need batteries. Lost some shots because of the time it took to range, but It did a good job and I killed a few critters using it.

So it looked like you ranged a hill with maybe rocks on the side at 1500+. What’s the farthest you’ve ranged non specific targets i.e. hills small brush. Will help me in the way of choosing this over another lrf. My steel is only 20” wide. I’d like a lrf that I can use to get an idea of where I’ll put the target from my shooting position. Then double check after its setup. All I have to range is really small brush to low rolling hills. Thank you for your help if you can.

Around 1,000 or so yards, depending on hill. You'll probably be able to measure longer ranges once you get the steel plate set up.

How does the Nikon Monarch 3000 STABILIZED Rangefinder compare? I assume that the stabilized rangefinder would be better for small targets. But some of the review on the Monarch 3000 complain that it has problems past 1700 yards. Which one would you buy the RangeX or the Monarch?

They're similar in many respects, but have a couple big differences. The Monarch 3000 has a shorter (3k vs 4k) max effective range, but it's stabilized. The RangeX is not stabilized, but it has a different laser with a faster response time, and has angle compensating technology. You're right with your assessment of the two though: the Monarch is very good for smaller targets, but the RangeX is overall a better rangefinder, particularly at longer range.

Which do you believe would be the better purchase for a 6.5mm Creedmoor shooter with target range up to 1200 yards, 1400 yards if he's only expecting about 70% reliability? I like the stabilization feature and am not sure if gaining range not actually needed would make up for the loss of it; so I'm torn between the Nikon Monarch 3000 Stabilized Laser Rangefinder and the Nikon Black RangeX 4K. Is there anything that would distinguish the Black RangeX 4k over the Monarch besides range because according to the descriptions the technology is identical?

Aside from the differences in maximum range and the fact that the Monarch 3000 is stabilized, the only difference is that the Black RangeX has a faster response time. That's more important for hunting than shooting at the range. If you only plan on using it for target shooting, then the Monarch 3000 might be a better choice for you.

Thanks for the advice but I mainly wanted it for my Bergara HMR (Hunting and Match Rifle) so I'll go with the Black RangeX 4k. In the meantime I also got to try out the 3000 and the ranging was inconsistent, my friend wasn't too pleased with it and said he'll return it and exchange it for the 4k as well.

Interesting. Hope the 4k works out better for you and your friend than the 3000 did!

I am trying to find a rangefinder that works decent with mirage. I'm not sure if that's even possible, given that mirage bends light. Any recommendations?

To be quite honest with you, I have limited experience using rangefinders with a severe mirage. For what it's worth, the Black RangeX works pretty well with just a slight mirage.

You're not going to find a range finder that will defeat mirage. By definition, it's a bending of light, this causes issues since you're not actually pointing at the target you plan on ranging. As for mirage actually effecting the return signal, I'm not sure. In the past, I've used terrain association and a protractor to find my range. Find an object you can locate on a map that's the same distance, use that. It'll get you pretty close once you're practiced up on it.

How dies it stack up against sig sauer range finders

I like you have a fetish for rangefinders. My Vectronix terrapin ranged the furthest at over 4900 yds. My plrf 10 while twice as expensive ranged about half that far consistently followed by my G7 Gen one then G7 Gen 2. I'm currently running a leica 2000B which I am very dissappointed with. That's what's led me to this video. My Leica has a very difficult time ranging 1000 yds on a sunny day. That's not acceptable.
