Hanabie actually started in high school (I believe) as a Maximum The Hormone cover band! Love these girls they NEEEEED to blow up

You were right, the girls' inspiration when forming the band, still in High School, was exactly Maximum The Hormone, of which they are fans.
Although a lot of people say they started out doing MtH covers, I couldn't find any sources saying that, but I don't read Japanese, so it could be.
I don't listen to "normal" Metal (Metallica, Slipknot, etc.), but these Japanese bands mix heavy sound, harsh vocals with cute parts and with elements from other genres, like j-pop, hard rock, rap, they don't intend to be pure metal.
They consider their music as Metalcore, Loudcore.
As a joke, they say it's "Harajukucore", because Harajuku is the youth/fashion neighborhood of Tokyo, which they love.
For the next ones, you can see L.C.G or Reiwa matching sedai (「令和マッチング世代」).
But you can also make a different sequel. They have an amazing cover of a j-pop song, which in the original is kind of club/rave and they turned it into metal.
The original song is really good, a big hit in Japan.

Hanabie are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 They have a pretty diverse collection of songs now that all still sound like Hanabie, they are the real deal. 😊
