No not really, It just takes super high Fram rates and flawless composite motion. One day you will see animation so flawless fluid and complex, That it SHALL blow you away. The technology is almost complete.
With Cuphead and it's DLC's success, Dragon's Lair literally needs to come back. Probably as some kind of hand drawn 2D platformer. The two arcade games had so much love put into them, It's sad to see that it's basically a rotting IP.
There does exist a Dragon's Lair platformer for the SNES. It is unfortunately not hand drawn and not that good. If the Cuphead people developed a new one I'm sure it would be excellent!
I can't stand that netflix agreed to make it but only if it wasn't animated and Ryan Reynolds was going to play Dirk...if it got cancelled thank GOD I could not believe someone with as much creative integrity as Ryan Reynolds would allow that to happen in good conscience.
My guess is that it's a comedic exaggeration of Peter Paul Ruben's (Rubenesque) style of drawing scantily clad women maybe with some inspiration from the round "Venus" figures found in ancient European caves.

Years ago there was a DVD re-release box set of Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace. It was cool to finally play this game I had read about in magazines. But man, I didn’t realize part 2 looked so bonkers. The animation is so beautifully fluid and expressive. It’s too bad this game never transformed into something like Earthworm Jim where players could control the character instead of just interacting with a movie.
It is nice to see someone absolutely crush this game. The 1st one and Ghosts n' Goblins were the cause of many loud expletives and reckless flingery of quarters , back in the good old days 💣

Oh you knew you would return, but the momentum was now, and as you were leaving the place, your mind started its inner anger management process, forgetting even that it has played. Days after, you were again there, recognizing the games that you liked, and this frustrating Dragon's Lair cabinet, telling yourself that you won't lose your quarters like last time again...
Once upon a time, at Disney World FL in 1994, in the arcade at Epcot Center, I watched a guy beat this entire game on a single quarter. His name was Terence Dalton, and he's a legend in my book. The cabinet was in perfect condition with the volume turned up high. When the part with Beethoven's 5th started, it filled the room. That's when I noticed the crowd that had formed. Perhaps as many as 200 people were watching him play. Both staff and visitors alike. All remembered this game, none had ever seen anyone get so far. In the end, one quarter was enough and the cheering was like the ending of Karate Kid. :)
I played an emulated version of this on my computer about 10 years ago and so I had unlimited quarters. I had to retry a LOT, but that Eden stage in particular I never got past. So only from this video today did I get to see the Beethoven stage and then the Egyptian stage. To think that there is even more but you have to also collect all the treasures is bonkers!
Just imagine an all new dragon's lair like an interactive drama game close to detroit,with this awesome animation and making choices etc with many endings! 😉
2:30 a nod to Don's earlier expert work on Sleeping Beauty. I found this game in the Arcade fairly unforgiving. The Mozart portion was difficult to focus on what to do and dollars were swallowed.
