Thank You SO Much for reacting to this! You made my day/week/month/year! Anyway, I'll answer a few of your questions as best I can:
1: Jennie and Lisa both rap. Although Jennie's position is Main Rapper and Lisa is Lead Rapper, Lisa has become the more popular rapper in the last few years. In K-Pop each member has their official "positions", which means their specific strengths in the group as assigned by their company.. Positions are ranked MAIN (most skilled), LEAD (also skilled) and SUB (skilled). Here are BLACKPINK's positions according to YG at the time of their debut:
JENNIE: MAIN RAPPER, LEAD VOCAL
JISOO: LEAD VOCAL, VISUAL
ROSÉ: MAIN VOCAL, LEAD DANCER
LISA: MAIN DANCER, LEAD RAPPER, SUB VOCAL, MAKNAE
In addition there are two other positions called VISUAL and MAKNAE. MAKNAE means "youngest" and is assigned to the youngest member. VISUAL is a little tricky. It is assigned to the most aesthetically pleasing member according to Korean beauty standards. Koreans value beauty greatly, and place importance on specific features that are considered beautiful in Korea. High cheekbones, skin tone, hair color and style are all important, and the position VISUAL means that the person is the closest to a "Classically Korean Beauty".
*note* There is another position called LEADER but BLACKPINK doesn't have one, which is unusual for a group. They trained together so long and treated each other like friends (sisters, really) that they felt that no need to have a leader.
2: Regarding comments that they are "beyond K-Pop", take it with a grain of salt. BTS fans have said the same thing. They haven't "transcended the musical culture to create a new type of music", they have just found the sweet spot that allowed them to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western music. If anything I would say that they are now "World Music" because of their accessibility. (and I'm the biggest BLINK in the U.S., I'm just being real)
3: More of an FYI, they were originally supposed to be a nine-member group called either PINKPUNK or BABY MONSTER. Trainees dropped out over the months/years until it was the four of them. One of the last members to leave is now the Main Vocalist in another huge K-Pop group called (G)--DLE. Her name is Miyeon, she had trained with YG for five years, but was let go in 2015 after it was discovered that she was dating (which is forbidden under a trainee's contract).

Lisa AND Jennie rap. Jennie is the main rapper but she sings a lot too so Lisa often fills the rap spot.
lisa doesn’t “fills” the rap spots simply because 1. she’s part of rapline and 2. as you see and it’s literally a video of the documentary in which they have said they take parts which FIT the members the best. lisa sings too (less since she’s sub vocalist obviously) but don’t make it sound like she gets the raps bc she’s filling for anybody else those are her well deserved parts
@@iisavibee3633 You are right. My apologies. Poor word choice. It’s not that I meant Lisa doesn’t deserve the raps because she’s a FIRE rapper and earns her lines. I actually prefer her rapping and she’s my bias. I mostly meant that Jennie often sings because it fits the song and it fits the song for Lisa to rap (even if Jennie is technically main rapper). I appreciate you not getting angry! I am a fan and was quick to want to make sure he was aware Jennie is also a rapper but he has seen her sing more. I worded my original comment poorly to make it seem like Lisa didn’t earn her raps but she absolutely does. She’s a vital part of the group for sure!
@@CFAnne not angry at all don’t worry but it’s sad that it is seen like lisa only gets her parts bc jen doesn’t rap as often when it’s clear that she can do both like for their debut songs she did rap and sing too .. the two of them actually did balance singing and rapping very well just like in see u later for example but idk why jen raps less nowdays and it’s definitely not bc they want lisa to get “more” i really want them to rap together again

it's really crazy to see a group that I started to like from day one, because of their way, their style, and seeing everything they are today, and seeing that I was there for every achievement, I really can't not cry watching this documentary and their movie (the movie), I even cried sobbing at the theater
Sure Thing (Miguel Cover) is a must if you want to see their cool chemistry singing live together (you will see how they truly compliment one another as a group )

Teddy their producer is basically the one who put them all together and was with them through training so he is practically their big brother

Yup, the beatles had George Martin, Blackpink has Teddy Park.
Black Pink is over of my favorite kpop groups. Their music switch ups always has you getting whip lash. I know your getting into BTS now and the TH-cam docuseries called Rise of Bangtan really gets into the grit of how k pop works, if you're interested. It even features some of Black pinks interviews from this Netflix documentary.

In kpop there’s a lot of entertainment agencies to audition to, and there’s like “The Big 3” which is the most influential companies in kpop, and have kind of formed kpop through generations.
YG: BLACKPINK, Big Bang, 2NE1, Ikon, Treasure etc
SM: Girls generation, EXO, Red velvet, NCT, Shinee, Super junior, F(x), Aespa etc
JYP: Twice, Wonder Girls, Itzy, Stray kids, Got7 (they’re not under JYP anymore though), day6, etc.
There’s also hundreds of smaller and medium-sized companies that can have big groups as well (and small/lesser known groups)

Ugh black pink is everything I hope there North American success continues. I’m hoping it means more English tracks. It’s also super cool that they do solo songs. I feel like that concept is super foreign to other places. When a member does a solo usually it’s breaking up the group to shine on there own and express themselves outside being a group. Also gives fans more of just there fav though they are literally all the Beyoncé of the group so how could they not all have solos. They are a shot of adrenaline they also make me wanna dress way cooler than I am lol

You mentioned how it's like The Voice or American Idol, and there are actually a few groups that were formed on Korean TV shows -- TWICE and IZ*ONE are two that come to mind right away. Many people that go on music survival programs in Korea and make it to the end usually have good careers upon winning, whereas in America nowadays, the winners usually just win the show, and they don't see much success after winning.

Like American Idol? No way. We do not know how the performers in American Idol train, but these kpop idol trained like 14 hours a day and 13 days a fortnight for a couple of years. It is more like the Survival Show where the weakest are eliminated.
Ya, I watched the documentary I know how much they trained. I was comparing the judging and being sent home to a game show. The biggest game show about singing and performing that came to mind was American Idol.
