Sadly true. That's why I haven't bought a subaru since my 2004 forester. The new foresters are too big, the crosstrek too under powered, and the WRX too small. They seem to be giving up on other things as well, like window frames (at least on some cars) despite their claim that avoiding them makes the chassis significantly stronger since the a,b,and c pillars can be stronger/larger without impacting the driver visibility.
Looked like quite a bit of fun to me. I've done quite a snow driving in the sierras. Never anything like the video of course, but still had a blast. I always thought 4 wheel sliding sideways through corners was some unattainable skill. Turns out a well setup subie and you are most of the way there.

I am not even sure AWD has any role contributing to the completion of this run. Stupidly fun! What kind of life insurance the driver had for this run?

You've obviously never watched an actual rally, then. The tyres are literally designed to deal with exactly this kind of snow.
